  • New thermal crack control system for mass concrete was developed to increase quality and to save construction period and cost. The principle of this system is that the curing water having proper temperature is supplied automatically to the surface of mass concrete member to keep the temperature difference between center and surface of concrete less than generally recommended temperature difference ($20^{\circ}C$). Mock-up test was conducted to investigate the validity of newly developed curing system. As a result, no crack was founded in the specimen using automated curing system developed in this study, while many cracks occurred in another specimen without automated curing system. It was also confirmed that the strength and the durability of the concrete cured by automated curing system were improved.

  • The strength of concrete is one of the most important parameters in evaluating the properties of concrete. Compressive strength of concrete has been widely used because of its convenience of experiments and generality. Compressive strength of concrete varies according to materials and curing conditions. Even with the same materials, the strength varies according to the curing conditions. Therefore, if we want to know the strength of concrete from the construction field, we have to put it in exactly the same curing condition with the construction field. But it is impossible to make the exactly same curing conditions in the laboratory. Also damages occur in order to measure the strength of concrete, because the core hat to be made into the pavement. To overcome these limits, many studies of nondestructive method have already been researched. It was already proven that shear wave velocity was very closely related to the compressive strength. In this study, three different curing temperatures with the same mixture paste were used, and compressive strength and shear wave velocity, according to the aging were measured. The relationship between these two parameters was examined. As results, curing temperature affected the compressive strength and the shear wave velocity, but did not affect the relation between them.

  • Many problems exist in the current cast in place concrete lining used in domestic tunnel construction. Especially, the crack of tunnel lining brings about a social and economic problem. It has a lot of influence on stability of structure and the fine finish of lining. So enormous repair-work and reinforcement of tunnel lining could occur an running out of government's budget. In our country, there are domestic production enterprises which produce a special pre-cast concrete product, but the technical level of them is still far behind compared to developed countries. Also, optimum steam coring method is important for the production of high quality product. But there is no regulation of steam curing method in our country. This study is to investigate the properties of PC panel according to the variation of steam curing conditions such as presteaming time and rate of temperature rise. The result shows that the optimum presteaming time of steam curing method in PC panel is more than 1 hour and the desirable rate of temperature in curing chamber is about $20^{\circ}C/hr$.

  • This study reviewed the results of utilization of insulation heat curing method using double layer bubble sheet in slab concrete and mass concrete in cold weather environment. First of all, when double layer bubble sheets are applied, it was shown that slab concrete was protected from early freezing by remaining between 6 and $10^{\circ}C$ even in case outside temperature drops $10^{\circ}C$ below zero until the 2nd day from piling, and in the case of mass concrete, with the maximum temperature difference between the center and surface less than $6^{\circ}C$, crack occurrence index was close to 2 and no hydration heat crack occurred by internal constraint. The insulation heat preservation curing method using the double bubble sheet applied in this field prevented early freezing owing to stable curing temperature management, deterring concrete strength development delay at low temperature, and obtained the needed strength. Also, it was proven that the method is highly effective and economic for cold weather concrete quality maintenance through curing cost reduction like construction period shortening and labor cost reduction, etc by reducing the process of temporary equipment installation and disassembling.

  • This study examined the long-term inelastic characteristics, including unrestrained shrinkage and creep, of low-heat cement concrete under different ambient curing temperatures. To achieve the designed compressive strength of 42MPa, water-to-binder ratios were selected to be 27.5, 30, and 32.5% for curing temperatures of 5, 20, and $40^{\circ}C$, respectively. Test results showed that the shrinkage strains of concrete mixtures tended to decrease with the decrease in curing temperature because of the delayed evaporation of internal capillary and gel waters. Meanwhile, creep strains were higher in concrete specimens under lower curing temperature due to the occurrence of the transition temperature creep. The design models of KCI provision gave better accuracy in comparison with test results than those of ACI 209, although a correction factor for low-heat cement needs to be established in the KCI provision.

  • This study analysis the fundamental properties of temperature-dependence corresponding the change of curing temperature classified by the replacement ratio of BS, and the results are summarized as following. As the properties of flow, plain satisfied with the target slump, and as the replacement ratio of BS increased, the flow increased, but the air content slightly decreased. The time of set delayed as the replacement ratio of BS increased, but the curing temperature $35^{\circ}C$, even with 80% BS replaced concrete, the time of set was faster than $5^{\circ}C$, $20^{\circ}C$ plain, so the temperature-dependence was much greater. The compressive strength was decreased as the replacement ratio of BS increased, especially as the curing temperature lower, the compressive strength was lower comparatively. Also as the age increased, the plain developed more strength, therefore it show the temperature-dependence is much larger.

  • This paper discusses the validities of insulating curing of cold weather concreting at early stage by applying insulation forms. Tests were carried out using modified insulating form combining existing insulating form and various other insulations in order to develop improved insulation form. Temperature history of concrete using various insulating forms and insulation was measured to determine most effective combination of insulting form. According to results, as for the wall form, under the curing temperature of $-10^{\circ}C$, the temperature of concrete using Euro form drops sharply before 24 hours and lasts below $0^{\circ}C$ for 7 hours. The temperature of concrete using the form combining Polypropylene panel, styrofoam and plywood panel keep above $0^{\circ}C$. And, it is confirmed that the form mentioned above has a favorable effects on enhancing strength development of concrete and the cost to make the forms shows more reasonable than that of existing forms. However, as for the combination methods of insulation form for slab, which is composed of insulating form at the bottom of slab and various surface curing materials at the top of slab, in case of exposed condition at the top of slab, temperature history of concrete goes below $0^{\circ}C$ after 10 hours. In case of the combination of vinyl sheet and curing blanket, it drops below $0^{\circ}C$ after 42 hours. However, in case of the combination of vinyl, styrofoam and curing blanket, it does not go below $0^{\circ}C$ until 55 hours. Accordingly, compared to the case of exposure and the combination of vinyl and curing blanket, it indicates that the combination mentioned above has more effective insulating performance.

  • As concrete is a material which is subject to wide quality fluctuations by temperature, grip of seasonal feature and maintenance of ambient temperature and humidity to secure the quality required after casting concrete are able to keep away from harmful effects. In case of summer, a high temperature has caused rapid hydration reaction of cement in early age, which has caused to decrease strength by autogenous shrinkage. Therefore we need to consider a countermeasure for decrease in the hydration heat of hot-weather concrete, according to minimize water and cement content and use mineral admixtures In this experimental research, the compressive strength development for replacement ratio of mineral admixtures, curing temperature and methods of concrete was investigated to confirm the effects of mixture design and curing condition on compressive strength of concrete.
