  • Recently the use of concrete post-installed set anchors has been increasing because this constructing method is flexible and easy to attach or fix structural members when we repair, reinforce, or remodel a concrete structures. Depending on the shear strength of steel, the strength of concrete, edge distance and anchor interval, etc, the anchor loaded in shearing exhibits various failure modes such as steel failure, concrete failure, concrete pryout. In this study, the objective is to investigate the effects of the variations like anchor embedment depth, anchor interval, edge distance and concrete strength on the shear failure behavior of post-installed concrete set anchor embedded in concrete. The results of embedment depth experiments show that concrete strength has much effection on the shallow embedment depth. Steel failure occur to all results of the anchor interval experiments, but concrete is failed when edge distance experiments that less than the embedment depth. Through the comparision of the same parameters experiments results show that as strong as concrete strength are the displacement results are small.

  • Recently the use of concrete post-installed set anchors has been increasing because this constructing method is flexible and easy to attach or fix structural members when we repair, reinforce, or remodel structures. Accordingly, designers and builders of Korea depend on foreign design codes since there are no exact domestic anchor design codes that they could credit. The anchor in plain concrete loaded in tensile exhibits various failure modes such as concrete breakout, splitting, steel failure, pull-out and side-face blowout, that depending on the tensile strength of the steel, the strength of concrete, embedment depth, interval, the edge distance and the presence of adjacent anchor. The objective is to investigate the effects of the variations like anchor embedment depth, interval and edge distance on pull-out fracture behavior of post-installed concrete set anchor embedded in plain concrete.

  • In 2017, the Gyeongju earthquake caused many casualties and considerable property damage by overturning and dropping blocks and bricks. Various reinforcement techniques were proposed, but some problems, such as short length or difficult construction, were encountered. Therefore, this study proposes a long-rawlplug screw anchor to improve the existing rawlplug anchor and conducts an experiment to evaluate the pullout strength. Variables in the pullout test were the compressive strength of concrete and the embedded length of the long-rawlplug screw anchor. According to the results, the pullout strength of the long-rawlplug screw anchor increased as the compressive strength of concrete increased, and they were not affected by the embedded length. Rather, it was found that the screw length of the long-rawlplug was important to the pullout strength.

  • Post-installed concrete set anchors are installed after the concrete hardened. These anchors increasing usage in development of construction equipment and flexible construction. The anchor loaded in shearing exhibits various failure modes such as steel failure, concrete failure, concrete pryout, depending on the shear strength of steel, the strength of concrete, edge distance and anchor interval, etc,. In this study, the objective is to investigate the effects of the variations like anchor embedment depth, edge distance and concrete strength on experimental and finite element analysis of shear failure behavior of post-installed concrete set anchor for light load embedded in concrete. The results of embedment depth experiments show that concrete strength has much affection on the shallow embedment depth. Concrete strength has no much affection with anchor interval and edge distance parameter and both experimental results occurred same failure mode. By comparing the experimental results that occurred steel failure mode show that as strong as concrete strength are the displacement results are small.

  • The $45^{\circ}$cone failure theory has been used for concrete anchor bolt design, but the CCD (concrete capacity design) method was adopted as a new design method in 2000. The method was allowed to be used, however, only for anchors with a diameter of less than 50 mm and an embedment depth of less than 635 mm because it is based on the experiment results from medium-sized to small anchor bolts. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a rational concrete breakout capacity equation for medium-sized to large anchor bolts. In this study, tension tests on an M56 cast-in-place single anchor bolt with an effective embedment depth of 400-450 mm were carried out for the five test specimens. Based on the test results together with the other recent test results, the applicability of the concrete breakout capacity equation in the current design code to the large to medium-sized anchor bolts with an embedment depth of 280-1,200 mm was estimated.

  • The paper presents an evaluation of the tensile strength of the expansion anchor that can cause failure in the concrete based on the design of the anchorage. Tests of the heavy-duty anchor and the wedge anchor that are domestically manufactured and installed in plain concrete members are conducted to probe the effects of the embedded depth, concrete strength, and anchors spacing. The design of post-installed steel anchors is presented using the Concrete Capacity Design (CCD) approach. The CCD method is applied to predict the concrete failure load of the expansion anchor in plain concrete under monotonic loading for important applications. The concrete tension capacity of the fastenings with heavy-duty anchors and wedge anchors in plain concrete predicted using the CCD method is compared with the test results. For the CCD method, a normalization coefficient of 9.94 is appropriale for the nominal concrete breakout strength of an anchor or a group of wedge anchors in tension. On the other hand, a normalization coefficient of 11.50 is appropriate for the nominal concrete breakout strength of an anchor or a group of heavy-duty anchors in tension.

  • Recently, many bridges become not only functionally obsolete of bridge dick due to inadequate width but also structurally deficient of substructure due to erosion. In these case widening is almost always more economical than complete replacement, and therefore there is a need to make available the results of research and field experience pertaining to the widening of bridge substructure. But, an experimental study for the guarantee of unification between existing and new substructure with post-installed concrete set anchor is so insufficient that the development of post-installed concrete set anchor system for the unification should be settled promptly. The objective is to investigate the effects of anchor embedment depth and concrete strength on pullout characteristics of post-installed concrete set anchor embedded in plain concrete. The effects of embedment depth variable is depending on concrete strength as strong as concrete strength is pullout load is high. Regardless of concrete strength, embedment depth that less than 6 times appeared concrete failure mode but for embedment depth that over 8 times concrete strength has no affection on failure mode.

  • It is difficult for existing beams to ensure the sufficient embedding depth due to constructional cause. Owing to these problems, currently FRP-Rod embedding repair method run parallel with a section increasing method in many case. In this study, anchor pin was adopted to solving the problems of the sliding of FRP-Rod and the unified behaviors of the repaired beam without increasing the section. In the experiments, split failure of covering concrete and slippage of the FRP-Rod were not occurred. it was confirmed that FRP-Rod shown the integrate behaviors with RC beam till the repaired beams destroyed.

  • The Embedded Suction Anchor (ESA) is a type of permanent offshore foundation that is installed by a suction pile. To increase the loading capacity against pullout, three wings (vertical flanges) are attached along the circumference at 120 degrees apart. Analytical parametric study using the proposed analytical solution method has been conducted to identify the effects of several parameters that are thought to influence the behavior of ESAs. The analysis results show that the pullout capacity increases as the anchor depth and the soil strength increase, and decreases as the load inclination angle increases. The anchor having square projectional area and being pulled horizontally at the middle of its length provides the highest pullout capacity.

  • In this study, 24 prototype specimens were tested to find out the shear behavior and strength of large anchorage system exceeding 50mm(2") in anchor bolt diameter($d_0$) and 635mm(25") in effective embedment depth($h_{ef}$) not addressed by ACI349-06 Appendix B. Test variables are anchor bolt diameter($d_0$ = 63.5, 76.2, 88.9mm), effective embedment depth($h_{ef}$=635, 762mm), and edge distance($c_1$=381, 508, 762mm). Concrete compressive strength is constant($f_{ck}$=38MPa). Test results ($V_{test}$) were overestimated by $V_{aci06}$(shear strength by ACI 349-06) and $V_{ccd}$(shear strength by CCD method). In large anchorage system exceeding 50mm(2") of anchor bolt diameter($d_0$) and 635mm(25") of anchor bolt effective embedment depth($h_{ef}$), the bolt diameter variation and effective embedment depth($h_{ef}$) has no influence on the shear strenth, But, according to the analysis results of the feature ratio on edge distance($c_1$) and anchor bolt diameter, the feature ratio become smaller, which means anchor bolt diameter is bigger, predicted ratio of test results and predicted equation is larger. It was found that anchor bolt diameter is immediate cause of deterioration in the shear capacity of large anchorage system. To improve and extend the validity of current design recommendations further theoretical and numerical work is needed.
