This study was conducted to examine the antimicrobial activity of Perilla frutescens var. acuta leaf fractions extracted with a mixture of ethanol and water. The Ca and Mg contents of the leaf were 595.75 mg% and 467.0 mg%, respectively, and they were the highest among all of the test minerals. The extract yield increased w e content of water in e extraction solvent. Antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa was found in the 50,70 and 95% ethanol extracts. Of the various fractions extracted from the mixture of ethanol and water, the ethyl acetate fraction showed antibacterial activity against all microorganisms tested in this experiment, and the antibacterial activity of ethyl acetate fraction from the water extract was the strongest. The phenol and flavonoid content in the ethyl acetate fraction showed no correlation with the concentration of ethanol in the extract solvent; however, their contents were higher in the 30% ethanol and water extraction which the antimicrobial activity of the extract was the strongest.
Three differing sandstones, two synthetic and one field sample, have been tested ultrasonically under a range of confining pressures and pore pressures representative of in-situ reservoir pressures. These sandstones include: a synthetic sandstone with calcite intergranular cement produced using the CSIRO Calcite In-situ Precipitation Process (CIPS); a synthetic sandstone with silica intergranular cement; and a core sample from the Otway Basin Waarre Formation, Boggy Creek 1 well, from the target lithology for a trial $CO_2$ pilot project. Initial testing was carried on the cores at "room-dried" conditions, with confining pressures up to 65 MPa in steps of 5 MPa. All cores were then flooded with $CO_2$, initially in the gas phase at 6 MPa, $22^{\circ}C$, then with liquid-phase $CO_2$ at a temperature of $22^{\circ}C$ and pressures from 7 MPa to 17 MPa in steps of 5 MPa. Confining pressures varied from 10 MPa to 65 MPa. Ultrasonic waveforms for both P- and S-waves were recorded at each effective pressure increment. Velocity versus effective pressure responses were calculated from the experimental data for both P- and S-waves. Attenuations $(1/Q_p)$ were calculated from the waveform data using spectral ratio methods. Theoretical calculations of velocity as a function of effective pressure for each sandstone were made using the $CO_2$ pressure-density and $CO_2$ bulk modulus-pressure phase diagrams and Gassmann effective medium theory. Flooding the cores with gaseous phase $CO_2$ produced negligible change in velocity-effective stress relationships compared to the dry state (air saturated). Flooding with liquid-phase $CO_2$ at various pore pressures lowered velocities by approximately 8% on average compared to the air-saturated state. Attenuations increased with liquid-phase $CO_2$ flooding compared to the air-saturated case. Experimental data agreed with the Gassmann calculations at high effective pressures. The "critical" effective pressure, at which agreement with theory occurred, varied with sandstone type. Discrepancies are thought to be due to differing micro-crack populations in the microstructure of each sandstone type. The agreement with theory at high effective pressures is significant and gives some confidence in predicting seismic behaviour under field conditions when $CO_2$ is injected.
A 74-year-old woman presented at our hospital with hemoptysis. Three months ago, she had endovascular stent-grafting done by a general surgeon for a saccular thoracic aneurysm that was found accidentally following an episode of fever and chills. Despite a lasting fever after the procedure, she was discharged without further treatment and follow-up. She was subsequently admitted to the hospital for evaluation and several exams were performed. Chest CT scans and an esophagoscopy identified an aorto-esophageal fistula at the level of the aorta that was covered by a previous stent-graft. After extensive administration of antibiotics, surgery was done - esophagectomy, cervical esophago-gastrostomy and replacement of the thoracic aorta. She was later discharged uneventfully.

Chronic expanding hematoma of the thorax is a specific subtype of the chronic empyema. It presents as a slowly expanding intrathoracic mass which result in dyspnea or recurrent hemoptysis. The symptoms develop months or years after tuberculous pleurisy, trauma or surgery. Usually, it shows three common findings: a giant mass lesion in the thorax, some surrounding calcifications, the absence of signs or symptoms of infection. We report a case of chronic expanding hematoma of the thorax, initially presenting as massive hemoptysis through bronchopleural fistula which resulted in radiologic findings of new air-fluid level within the previous pleural lesion filled with unknown materials.
This study is suggested a new dielectric tracer test method to understand geological structure of porous media and groundwater flow to use the dielectric constant which is one of electrical special quality of various geological materials. To measure their parameters, tracer material is made an ethanol mixing liquid(EML) having a same specific gravity of water. Also, soil materials are prepared a dielectric tracer test using the FDR system that could measure dielectric constant for saturated standard sand and river sand layers which have different initial porosity. To compare with their results, we discussed with the concentration variation of saline water having a saline concentration $3\%$ which is general tracer material by using the electro multi-meter system in the laboratory or field test. In two tracer experiment results, EML tracer test could confirm definitely EML concentration variation from each saturated soil layer as standard and river sands. However, tracer test of saline water $3\%$ concentration could not confirm permeating movement of water by degree of salinity change because these are settled at lower part column in a whole column area continuously. These causes are that specific gravity of saline water is heavier than water. That is, it could know that deposition of saline water is composed of lower part of soil column continuously independently of the direction of water into saturated soil material.

It was investigated to develop the technology for simultaneous removal of $SO_2/NO$ in flue gas using liquid homogeneous catalyst. Test was carried out using a bench scale and a pilot scale experiment. The investigation led to the following results: 1) Removal efficiency of $SO_2$ gas showed good results regardless of operating condition. Removal efficiency of NO gas, however, proportionally increased with higher packing height, lower concentration and larger injection rate of catalyst 2) The optimum design parameters for simultaneous removal of $SO_2/NO$ gas using Fe(II)-EDTA catalyst were as follow: HTU(height of transfer unit) = 0.5 m, liquid gas ratio = 20 $L/m^3$, NTU (number of transfer unit) = 3 stages, cross dimension of scrubber=0.025 $m^2$ 3) The removal efficiencies of $SO_2$ and NO were 95% and 81%, repletely. 4) The high HTU is advantageous on removal of the NO, but the excessive HTU diminishes operating efficiency. Consequently, it is important to decide the HTU of optimum.

This study aimed to identify the characteristics of jaw cysts among children and adolescents treated at the Kyung Hee University Dental Hospital from 2005 to 2015. A retrospective observational study was conducted of 269 jaw cysts diagnosed in 253 patients. The following variables were recorded: gender, age, prevalence and location of lesions, clinical symptoms and treatment. Statistical analyses were performed using the SPSS (version 20.0). Our results suggest that the cysts are slightly more prevalent in males. Cystic lesions of the jaws in children are predominantly odontogenic and developmental in origin. Dentigerous cysts predominate in developmental cysts and the most frequent diagnosis is radicular cysts in inflammation cysts. The most common location of the cysts is in the mandible, particularly the lower molar region. In numerous cases, the patients have no clinical symptoms. Most cysts were surgically enucleated with tooth extraction. Furthermore, our findings demonstrate that the characteristics of jaw cysts in children are distinctive and differ in several respects from the corresponding distribution of jaw cysts in adult population. Therefore, knowledge of the clinical, radiological and histopathological behavior of jaw cysts and periodic radiographic examination are key factors for early diagnosis and adequate treatment of jaw cysts in children.

The transfer reaction characteristics of tetracycline (TC) across a polarized water/1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCE) interface was studied via controlling both pH and ionic strength of the aqueous phase in conjunction with cyclic and differential pulse voltammetries. Formal transfer potential values of differently charged TC ionic species at the water/1,2-DCE interface were measured as a function of pH values of the aqueous solution, which led to establishing an ionic partition diagram for TC. As a result, we could identify which TC ionic species are more dominant in the aqueous or organic phase. Thermodynamic properties including the formal transfer potential, partition coefficient and Gibbs transfer energy of TC ionic species at the water/1,2-DCE interface were also estimated. In order to construct an electrochemical sensor for TC, a single microhole supported water/polyvinylchloride-2-nitrophenyloctylether (PVC-NPOE) gel interface was fabricated. A well-defined voltammetric response associated with the TC ion transfer process was achieved at pH 4.0 similar to that of using the water/1,2-DCE interface. Also the measured current increased proportionally with respect to the TC concentration. A $5{\mu}M$ of TC in pH 4.0 buffer solution with a dynamic range from $5{\mu}M$ to $30{\mu}M$ TC concentration could be analyzed when using differential pulse stripping voltammetry.

The aim of this study was comparison of effectiveness of surface treatment methods in reducing the oxygen-inhibited layer of a commercially available freshly polymerized, light cured dental sealant($concise^{TM}$, 3M, St Paul, USA). Surface treatment groups were consisted of no treatment(negative control group) and 3 experimental groups according to surface treatment of light-cured sealant. Experimental group I was 10 seconds' exposure to distilled water syringe, group II was 10 seconds' manual application using a cotton pellet wetted with 75% alcohol and group III was 10 seconds' prophylaxis with pumice/water slurry using rubber cup on a slow-speed handpiece. All specimens were immersed in 5ml distilled water and stored at 37c water bath for 10 minutes. All eluates were analyzed by HLPC for identification and quantitive analysis of monomers. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. 1. None of the chromatograms of the tested sealant displayed peaks with the same retention time as that of the standard solution, except for TEGDMA. 2. All surface treatment group had a statistically significant decrease of monomer release in comparison with no treatment group. 3. Removal effects of unreacted monomer in group III was statistically significant in comparison with group I and group II. These results revealed that mechanical method using pumice and rubber cup is the most effective in removing residual monomer and may be valuable to be used effectively in clinic.
Diosgenin in an Indonesian Costus speciosus was determined by capillary gas-liquid chromatography (GLC). The experimental conditions for the hydrolysis, extraction and acetylation of the diosgenin, and the determination by GLC were investigated. 0.20g of dried sample powder was refluxed in the solution of 3N HCI and xylene at 95∼100${\circ}C$ for 4 hours and the xylene layer was separated. The residue evaporated the xylene was refluxed in 20 : 80 acetic anhydride-pyridine for 30 minutes and the diosgenin acetate was extracted with diethyl ether. Dehydrated with anhydrous $Na_2SO_4$ and evaporated the ether, the residue was dissolved in 5.00ml of n-hexane and injected into GLC. Capillary column of SE-30 25m ${\times}$ 0. 33mm was installed in GLC and the column temperature was increased from 180${\circ}$ to 270${\circ}C$ at rate of 10${\circ}C$/min. The flow rate of carrier gas $N_2$ was 2ml/min and FID was used to detect. The analytical result of the diosgenin was 0.281% and relative standard deviation of 5 measures was 1.8%.
