  • Background: This study was performed to evaluate the effect of gastric cancer screening through analysis of screening-related data. Methods: We investigated claims data of gastric cancer from 2009 to 2015. We evaluated whether the screening was performed to prior to registration as patients with gastric cancer. The effect of gastric cancer screening was also analyzed by gender. Results: We collected total 196,293 patients with gastric cancer. 74% of them had previous experience of gastric cancer screening. In patients with screening, early gastric cancer was 33.4% and advanced gastric cancer was 17.3%. 22,548 (15.5%) patients were diagnosed with gastric cancer within 2 years after screening. In the case of patients without screening, early gastric cancer was 15.1% and advanced gastric cancer was 25.3%. In case of men, 76% of them confirmed gastric cancer through screening, and 70.2% of women confirmed the gastric cancer. In both men and women, the rate of early gastric cancer was higher among those with screening than those without screening. Conclusion: In this study, we were able to indirectly confirm the stage shift of gastric cancer screening. However, within 2 years after screening, not a few patients with gastric cancer were diagnosed. Therefore, more studies are warranted to in the future.

  • Purpose: This study is to determine knowledge about early detection and risk perception of cancer according to taking cancer screening tests in the general population. Methods: The participants were 151 people aged 40 years or older. A questionnaire consisted of knowledge about early detection (warning signs, cancer screening methods, general knowledge for early detection), cancer risk perception and history of cancer screening during past 2 years. Results: The percentages of correct answers were 64.7% in knowledge about warning signs, 73.7% in knowledge of cancer screening tests and 80.1% in general knowledge for early detection. Participants had the highest knowledge about screening methods for stomach cancer and the lowest for liver and colon cancer. The level of risk perception was medium. The participants who participated in cancer screening showed lower risk perception than those who did not. There was no significant relationship between knowledge and performance of cancer screening. The primary reason for not participating in cancer screening was patient's perception of their own health. Conclusion: These results suggest that cancer risk perception can affect the performance of cancer screening and we need to study how to handle this problem. Additionally screening programs should focus on liver cancer and colon cancer.

  • This study is a descriptive study to identify the factors affecting breast cancer screening behavior in women of childbearing age. The participants were 2,000 women between the ages of 19 and 40, and data collection was conducted through online and mobile surveys from September 2020 to August 2021. As a result of multivariable ordinal logistic regression analysis, age 20-29 (OR=2.145, CI=1.219-3.777), over 30 (OR=5.663, CI=2.784-11.521), annual income less than 10 million won (OR=1.606, CI=1.070-2.413), over 30 million won (OR=2.422, CI=1.550-3.785), family history of breast cancer (OR=2.421, CI=1.154-5.080), family history of ovarian cancer (OR=4.321, CI=1.382-13.516), subjective perception of health status was 'moderate' (OR=1.466, CI=1.064-2.020), and 'not healthy' (OR=1.854, CI=1.188-2.895) increased the breast cancer screening behavior. Therefore, based on this study, adequate policy should be adopted to strengthen the breast cancer screening behavior of young women of childbearing age.

  • Despite the fact that Korea has supported national cancer screening worldwide for a long time, the cancer screening screening rate is low compared to other health screenings and infant screening. In particular, women with disabilities show a lower screening rate for cervical cancer screening compared to women without disabilities. Therefore, from 2011 to 2019, this study investigated the trends in cervical cancer screening rates of women with disabilities and non-disabled women aged 30 and older, and analyzed the factors affecting cervical cancer screening of women with disabilities at the individual and regional level through the cervical cancer screening rates among regions. The purpose of this study is to identify the factors that affect regional variation by dividing into regions. From 2011~2019, the cervical cancer screening rate of people with disabilities was the highest in Daejeon and the lowest in Sejong and Jeju, and the gap in cervical cancer screening rate of people with disabilities by region was analyzed to be up to 13.1%.

  • Colorectal cancer is the 2nd most common cancer in men, and the 3rd most common cancer in women in Korea. This incidence has been increasing steadily since the data analysis began in 1999. Guidelines from many countries including Korea recommend annual or biennial fecal occult blood test as a national colorectal cancer screening program, however, colonoscopy, stool DNA test, double contrast barium enema, and sigmoidoscopy are recommended in some countries. I will summarize the Korean National Screening Guideline for colorectal cancer revised by multi-society expert committee in Korea last year. They recommend annual or biennial fecal immunochemical test between 45 and 80 year-old asymptomatic average risk people. Selective use of colonoscopy is recommended, taking into consideration of individual preference and the risk of colorectal cancer. There is no evidence for the risks or benefits of double contrast barium enema or computed tomographic colonography for colorectal cancer screening.

  • The study investigated information about the effects of message framing on colorectal cancer(CRC) screening related health beliefs and compliance with the CRC screening test within the theoretical framework of the prospect theory and the Health belief model (HBM). This study was using a non-randomized controlled quasi-experimental design. One hundred and sixty-four in the industrial workers who were currently nonadherent to guidelines for receiving screening were assigned to one of three experimental conditions: (a) gain-framed message, (b) loss-framed message, and (c) general-framed message. CRC screening-related health beliefs was self-reported after the intervention. And the immunoassay Fecal Occult Blood Test (iFOBT) kit was collected at 1 week. The research finding were analyzed by $x^2$ test and one-way ANOVA using SPSS 21.0. The loss-framed message group had higher perceived susceptibility, severity and benefit than the gain-framed message and general message. The participation rate for the immunoassay Fecal Occult Blood Test(iFOBT) was highest in the loss-framed message group. The loss framed messages more effective to enhance screening behavior. The present results provide a theoretical basis for developing educational guidelines for CRC testing and could be used for performing comprehensive approach by predicting and suggesting the practical effects according to message type in advance.
