An analysis on vegetation characteristics of the rocky slopes in expressway according to the type of greening works (녹화공법에 따른 고속도로 암반비탈면의 식생 특성 분석)

  • The current study aims to analyze the vegetation characteristics of the rocky slopes in expressway applied by different types of greening work. A field survey on the current status of vegetation were conducted in 50 rock slopes along 13 expressways in two years, 2020 to 2021. Specifically, the type of implemented greening and slope stabilization work, the soil properties, the vegetation coverage, and the emerged species were investigated on a every single slope. As the result of the implemented work types, the soil-media hydroseeding and the gabion work appeared to be the most implemented greening and slope stabilization work, respectively. As a result of the vegetation survey, 126 classification groups (42 families, 93 genera and 126 species) were identified in total and it was observed 26 IAP species and 5 invasive species were growing. The longer the time after greening work, the more frequent appearance of IAP species were observed. Woody species such as Robinia pseudoacacia and Lespedeza bicolo, and perennial herbs such as Artemisia princeps, Erigeron annuus, and Festuca arundinacea were appeared with high frequencies at the rocky slopes in expressway. It was also observed Pinus densiflora, Quercus dentata, Rubus crataegifolius and Miscanthus sinensis which had invaded from the adjacent forests naturally, and the largest number of species were invaded between 5~10 years usually after greening work in this study.

A Study on the Evaluation of the Loads Acting on the Pillar in Two-Arch Tunnel (2-Arch 터널 중앙벽체 작용하중 산정에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, Matsuda formula used to evaluate the loads acting on the pillar was investigated and load reduction factor(${\alpha}$) was evaluated by numerical analysis to better apply for the design. From the results, normal stress was concentrated to one side due to excavation of preceding tunnel after construction of pillar. And 86.5% of maximum normal stress was revealed partly unequally when the ground was poor. By numerical analysis, $14{\sim}83%$ of total loads calculated by Matsuda formula decreased and then, from these results, load reduction factor(${\alpha}$) was estimated. From now on, stability and economic aspects could be guaranteed by applying the load reduction factor(${\alpha}$).

  • In recent days, the foundations of huge structures in general and mega foundations of grand bridges and high-rise buildings in particular are required in geotechnical engineering. This study described 3 dimensional behavior of mat foundation on soft rock based on a numerical study using 3D finite element method. A series of numerical analyses were performed for various soil conditions and mat rigidities under vertical loading. Based on the results of the parametric study, it is shown that the prediction of the settlement, cross sectional tensile stress and bending moments in the mat is overestimated in the analysis without considering interface behavior in comparison with the analysis considering interface between mat and rock mass.

  • 주거시설 확장 및 도심 내 인프라 구축을 위한 지속적인 산지 개발과 기후변동성 확대로 발생하는 게릴라 국지성 집중호우 등으로 인해 토석류의 발생가능성은 지속적으로 확대되고 있다.(kim et al., 2008) 그러나, 현재 국내의 토석류 방재시설에 대한 설치는 아직 미흡한 실정이며 아직 경사지 재해 발생 위험지역에는 방재시설 설치가 필요하다. 지자체의 제한된 예산으로는 필요한 모든 지역에 설치가 불가하기 때문에 순차적으로 효율적인 설치가 이루어질 필요가 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 도심지 내 소규모 산지에 대한 효율적인 설치방안을 모색하기 위해서 방재시설 설치 이후 토석류의 거동을 수치모의를 통해 방재시설 설치의 효율성을 분석하였다. 도심지 내 위치한 토석류 발생이력이 있는 소규모 산지의 토석류의 특성을 조사한 결과, 주요 발생원인은 국지성 집중호우로 인한 지반 약화로 인해 급경사를 이루고 있는 암반층 상단에 분포한 퇴적층의 붕괴가 주요 원인으로 나타났다(Kang et al, 2014) 조사결과에 근거하여 해당 유역에 대한 토석류 발생의 유입조건을 산정하였으며 유입조건에 대해 토석류 거동 예측 2차원 해석 소프트웨어인 FLO-2D를 사용하였다. 수치모의를 수행하여 방재시설이 미설치된 상태에서 발생한 토석류의 거동을 실제 발생한 토석류와 비교하였다. 또한, 수치모의에서 방재시설의 구현이 제한되므로 4가지 방재시설(교란사면용 토석류 방지시설, 울타리형 토석류 방지시설, 토사유출 저감용 지오셀, 토석류 방재장치)에 대해 경계조건의 변경을 통해 간접적으로 구현해 결과를 분석하였다. 방재시설은 종류 및 설치위치에 따라 토석류에 대한 피해저감효과가 상이하게 나타났다. 토석류 방재장치를 토석류 발생위치 전방 50 m 지점에 토석류 방재장치를 설치한 경우, 토석류의 유속이 20% 감소하여 피해범위는 36% 감소하였으며, 전방 200 m 지점에 설치한 경우, 피해범위가 14% 감소하였다. 검토한 4가지의 토석류 방재시설 중 토석류 방재장치가 가장 효율적인 결과를 나타냈다. 향후에는 피해범위에 대한 조건 외에 시공 및 유지관리 등에 대한 경제성검토를 한다면 종합적으로 방재시설 효율성을 검토할 수 있을 것으로 본다.

  • To calculate the end bearing capacity of a drilled Shaft socketed into the rockmass, the unconfined compression strength could be used. But it is difficult to find the unconfined compression strength because it is impossible to get undisturbed samples in weathered soils and rocks. So, to calculate the end bearing capacity, the existing bearing formula could not be used. In this study, for five zones (near pile tip, tip~lower 1D, tip~lower 2D, upper 1D~lower 1D, upper 1D~lower 2D), the relationships between the characteristic values of in-situ tests(SPT, DCPT PMT, BST) and the end bearing capacity of drilled shafts were analysed. As a result, DCPT results were represented the best credibility. Also, a design chart of end bearing capacity using DCPT was suggested.

Examining the Influence of TBM Chamber Condition and Transmission Distance on the Received Strength of Bluetooth Low Energy Signals: A Laboratory Simulation Experiment (TBM 챔버 상태와 전송 거리에 따른 저전력 블루투스 신호의 수신 강도 분석: 실험실 모사 실험)

  • To measure the wear amount of the TBM disk cutter in real time, it is important not only to automate the measurement using sensors, but also to stably transmit the measured data to the information processing system. In this study, we investigated the viability of utilizing Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology to wirelessly transmit sensor data from the TBM cutter head to a receiver located at the chamber's rear. Through laboratory experiments, we analyzed the Received Signal Strength Index (RSSI) of the receiver considering various signal strength of the transmitter, separation distances between the transmitter and receiver and chamber fill materials. Our results demonstrate that wireless data transmission is feasible across all tested conditions when the transmitter signal strength is 0 dBm or higher.

  • Scientific exploration of extraterrestrial planets has gripped human imagination since the advent of space travel. Human missions to Mars could produce insight into the essential questions of how, when and where life began on Earth. Such missions would only be feasible using local space resources materials, a concept called in situ-resource utilization (ISRU). The purpose of this paper is to provide a thorough review of the currently available Mars soil simulants and to determine those with geotechnical properties most appropriate for vehicle mobility studies. Sourcing and processing are considered since full-scale studies require bulk quantities of material on the order of tens of tons. This review identifies the simulants with the highest fidelity to Mars wind drift soils. In addition, recommendation guide for mars soil simulant development made.

Stability Assessment of Tunnel Excavation Face Utilizing Characteristics of Collapse Cases (터널 시공현장 붕괴 사례를 이용한 막장의 안정성 평가 연구)

  • While shield tunneling has demonstrated stability in international cases, the new Austrian tunneling method (NATM) encounters challenges in urban environments with shallow cover, weathered ground, and high groundwater levels. This paper introduces two typical collapse scenarios observed in urban areas, specifically within weathered bedrock and uncemented sandy soil layers. The collapses are analyzed using six stability evaluation methods, and the results are synthesized to assess the excavation face stability through a hexagonal diagram. The study finds a consistent agreement between the analysis results of the two collapsed tunnel sites and the evaluation outcomes. The employment of the stability evaluation diagram, a comprehensive method that considers the ground characteristics of the target tunnel, proves crucial for ensuring barrier stability during the tunnel design stage. This method is essential for a holistic evaluation, especially when addressing challenging ground conditions in urban settings.

Mechanical Characteristics of Cementing Plane in Concrete Repair under Various Cementing Conditions (접합조건에 따른 콘크리트 접합부의 역학적 특성)

  • Since the occurrence of Portland cement, a great number of concrete structures were constructed. But the concrete structures have their own life times, which inevitably demand repairing treatments, especially on their surface parts. Currently many various methods have been developed and are being applied fer this purpose. In this study, a newly developed method using pneumatic chipping machine and anchor pin was adopted far repair of old concrete structure and the mechanical characteristics of cementing plane between existing and new concrete were tested. Comparing the removal methods for the decrepit part of existing concrete using pneumatic chipping machine and hydraulic breaker, the peak cohesion was higher when using chipping machine at the cementing plane. On the other hand, the residual cohesion was higher for the case of breaker. Step shaped chipping on the cementing plane was effective in increasing peak cohesion, which results 14% increase in the case of 30 mm step height and 22% in 50 mm height when compared with planar chipping plane. The use of anchor pin increased the residual cohesion, which restricted shear slip on the cementing plane after peak shear stress and the tensile strength of 32% compared with that of non-anchored case. According to the combined effect of step shaped chipping of 30 mm and anchor pin with an interval of 15 cm, the peak cohesion reached up to 77% and the residual cohesion showed 180% of the ones of the fresh concrete, respectively.

A New Coefficient for Three Dimensional Quantification of Rock Joint Roughness (암석 절리면 거칠기의 새로운 3차원 정량화 계수)

  • Roughness of rock joint has generally been characterized based upon geometrical aspects of a two-dimensional surface profile. The appropriate description of joint roughness, however, should consider the features of roughness mobilization at contact areas under normal and shear loads. In this study, direct shear tests were conducted on the replicas of tensile fractured gneiss joints and the influence of the shear direction on the shear behavior and effective roughness was examined. In this procedure, a joint surface was represented as a group of triangular planes, and the steepness of each plane was characterized using the concepts of the active and inactive micro-slope angles. The contact areas at peak strength which were estimated by a numerical method showed that the locations of the contact areas were mainly dependent on the distribution of the micro-slope angle and the shear behavior of joint was dominated by only the fractions with active micro-slope angles. Therefore, a three-dimensional coefficient for the quantification of rock joint roughness is proposed based on the distribution of active micro-slope angle: active roughness coefficient, $C_r$. Comparison of the active roughness coefficient and the peak shear strength obtained from the experiment suggests that the active roughness coefficient is the effective parameter to quantify the surface roughness and estimate the shear behavior of rock joint.
