  • NOx 저감방법으로 여러 가지 방법들이 존재하며 연구되고 있다. 그중 Urea-SCR은 적용가능한 온도범위가 넓고 우수한 저감효율을 보여 자동차엔진의 NOx 저감장치로 많은 연구가 진행되어 왔다. Urea-SCR은 고체 Urea의 열 해리반응으로 생성되는 암모니아가스와 NOx 와의 화학반응으로 제거하는 것이 목적이다. NOx저감효율에 직접적인 영향을 주는 변수에는 분사노즐의 분무특성, 배기관내 분사위치, 요소수의 유량제어 등 여러 가지가 존재한다. 따라서 본문에서는 여러 가지 분사노즐, 유량제어방법, 배기가스 물성치 및 관내 유동특성 등에 대해 소개하고 Urea-SCR시스템 적용가능성을 언급하고자 한다.

  • Due to the development of the industrial revolution, regulations on exhaust emissions have been continuously strengthened to reduce the rapidly increasing greenhouse gas emissions. The use of environmentally friendly fuels is essential to meet these regulations. Hydrogen has been attracting attention as a future environmentally friendly fuel, but due to its material properties, it faces significant challenges in handling and storage. As an alternative, ammonia has been proposed. Ammonia can be easily liquefied at room temperature compared to hydrogen and has a high energy density. In order to examine the applicability of ammonia as an engine fuel, experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of changes in combustion control parameters in a direct injection ammonia combustion engine. The experiments were conducted by varying two variables: spark timing and excessive air ratio. Observations were made on combustion stability and the trends of exhaust emissions such as nitrogen oxides and unburned ammonia under the conditions of an engine speed of 1,500 rpm and medium to high loads (brake torque of 200 Nm). By optimizing the combustion control parameters, conditions for stable combustion even when using ammonia as the sole fuel were identified, and plans are underway to apply strategies for future expansion of the operating range.

A Study on Heat Transfer Characteristics for Removal of Absorption Heat in Absorption Process of Ammonia-Water Bubble Mole (암모니아-물 기포분사형 흡수과정에서의 흡수열 제거를 위한 열전달 특성 연구)

  • An absorber is a major component in the absorption refrigeration systems and its performance greatly affects the overall system performance. In this study, experimental analyses on heat transfer characteristics for removal of absorption heat in ammonia-water bubble mode absorber were performed. Heat transfer coefficients were estimated as the variations of input gas flow rate, solution flow rate, temperature, concentration, absorber diameter and height, and input flow direction. The increase of gas and solution flow rate affects positively in heat transfer. However, the increase of solution temperature and concentration affects negatively. Moreover, under the same Reynolds Numbers, countercurrent flow is superior to cocurrent flow in heat transfer performance. In addition, from these experimental data, empirical correlations which can explain easily the characteristics of heat transfer are derived.

Preparation of High Performance Hybrid Chemical Filter using Hot Melt Adhesive by Web Spray and Their Adsorption Properties (핫멜트 Web spray법을 이용한 고기능성 복합 화학필터의 제조 및 흡착특성)

  • In this study, the high performance hybrid chemical filter (HPHCF) was prepared by web spray using hot melt adhesive. The material of HPHCF was conditionally made of ion exchange resin and PP non-woven fabric. The optimum temperature and pressure for manufacturing of HPHCF conditions were such as $170^{\circ}C$ and 50 psi, respectively. The characteristics of preparated HPHCF and their adsorption properties of ammonia gas were investigated. The ion exchange capacity (IEC) of HPHCF was increased with increasing the resin contents and their values were higher than pure resin and ion exchange fabrics. The removal efficiency for ammonia gas increased with the increase of packing density of hybrid ion exchange fabrics in the column. It showed 13 min which the adsorption breakthrough time was slower than resin and fibers. The maximum value of adsorption for ammonia gas was 98 percent. And also, the velocity was increased with increasing concentration and flow rate of ammonia gas.

Combustion Characteristics of Ammonia-Gasoline Dual-Fuel System in a One liter Engine (1리터급 엔진을 이용한 암모니아-가솔린 혼소 성능 특성)

  • An ammonia fuel system is developed and applied to a 1 liter gasoline engine to use ammonia as primary fuel. Ammonia is injected separately into the intake manifold in liquid phase while gasoline is also injected as secondary fuel. As ammonia burns 1/6 time slower than gasoline, the spark ignition is needed to be advanced to have better combustion phasing. The test engine showed quite high variation in the power output to lead high increase in THC emission with large amount of ammonia, that is, higher than 0.7 ammonia-gasoline fuel ratios.

  • In this study, the hybrid ion exchange fibers (HIEF) were prepared by using web spraying muthod with hot melt adhesive. Characteristics of HIEF and their adsorption properties for ammonia gas were investigated. The ion exchange capacity (IEC) of HIEF was increased with increasing the resin contents and their values were higher than those of pure resin and ion exchange fabrics. The removal efficiency for ammonia gas increased with an increase in packing density of hybrid ion exchange fabrics in the column. The adsorption breakthrough time was 270 min, which was slower than those of the resin and fibers. The maximum value of adsorption for ammonia gas was 94%. The breakthrough time was also increased with increasing the concentration and flow rate of ammonia gas. The reaction constant(k) for ammonia gas was increased with increasing the concentration and flow rate of the gas, while it was decreased an the mass was increased.

A Study on Reduction of Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) and Stability of Incineration Facility by the Food Wastewater Incineration (음식물류 폐수 소각처리에 따른 질소산화물 저감 및 소각설비의 안정성 평가에 관한 연구)

  • We examine the processing method of the food wastewater to direct spray at living waste incinerator. The demoscale stoker system is used as a incineration facility. The results show that it brings effect on the reduction of nitrogen oxide ($NO_x$) concentration as well as the ammonia ($NH_3$) amount in SNCR (selective non-catalytic reduction) by the incineration of food wastewater which is containing a plentiful ammoniac nitrogen ($NH_3$-N). Furthermore, the stability of incineration facility and the extension of operation period is actualized as a improvement of clogging phenomenon on outer wall of water pipe as the 870~$950^{\circ}C$ maintain of exit temperature in a second combustor by spray of the food wastewater. The 26 items of air pollution matter of nitrogen oxide ($NO_x$), sulfur oxide ($SO_x$) and dioxin etc. are measured. The results show that it is under the value of allowable exhaust standard.

A Study on the Uniform Mixing of Ammonia-Air with the Change of Ammonia Supply Device Shape in a De-NOx System (탈질설비에서 암모니아 혼합기의 형상에 따른 암모니아-공기 균일 혼합에 관한 연구)

  • Selective catalytic reduction(SCR) method is widely used among various methods for reducing nitrogen oxides in combustion devices of coal power plant. In the present study, the computational fluid dynamic analysis was accomplished to derive the optimal shape of ammonia-dilution air mixing device in a ammonia injection grid. The distribution characteristics of flow and $NH_3$ concentration had been elucidated for the reference shape of ammonia mixing device(Case 1). In the mixing device of Case 1, it could be seen that $NH_3$ distribution was shifted to the wall opposite to the inlet of the ammonia injection pipe. For the improvement of $NH_3$ distribution, the case(Case 2) with closing one upper injection hole and 4 side injection holes, the case(Case 3) with installing horizontal plate at the upper of ammonia injection pipe, the case(Case 4) with installing horizontal plate and horizontal arc plate at he upper of ammonia injection pipe were investigated by analyzing flow and $NH_3$ concentration distributions. From the present study, it was found that the % RMS of $NH_3$ for Case 4 was 4.92%, which was the smallest value among four cases, and the range of $R_{NH3}$ also has the optimally uniform distribution, -10.82~8.34%.

A Study on the Thermal Decomposition and Injection Direction of Urea Solution Used in DeNOx Process (탈질공정에 사용되는 우레아 수용액의 열분해와 분사방향에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, thermo-gravimetric analysis(TGA) was used to investigate the effect of urea concentration and heating rate on the ammonia($NH_3$) formation process from urea solution. A newly designed pipe nozzle was inserted through a 1,000 N${\ss}$(C)/h oil firing boiler to compare the DeNOx efficiencies between the upward and downward nozzle. This experiment reveals the effect of path which an urea droplet goes through. Urea solution showed the same TGA graph without regard to the presence of oxygen. Heating rate had a great influence on the weight loss trend. But the concentration of urea solution between 10% and 40% did not affect so much the thermal decomposition temperature. Therefore, heating rate is more important factor on the thermal decomposition of urea than the concentration of urea solution. Three nozzles located at different positions showed similar DeNOx efficiencies such as 68.1%, 71.8%, 70.8% at the same temperature. Even though urea solution was injected for the same zone, the injection direction made much difference in DeNOx efficiency. A upward nozzle showed 68.1% and downward nozzle 9.5%. This results illustrate the importance of heating rate.

Shower-Head Film Cooling on the Leading Edge of a Turbine Blade: Measurements of Local Blowing Ratio and Flow Visualizations (터빈 블레이드 선단에서의 샤워헤드 막냉강 - 국소분사율 측정 및 유동의 가시화 -)

  • Measurements of local blowing ratio and ammonia-diazo flow visualizations have been conducted for a shower-head film cooling on a first-stage turbine stator. In this study, six rows of normal holes are drilled symmetrically on the semicircular leading edge of a simulated blunt body. The measurements show that for an average blowing ratio based on freestream velocity, M, of 0.5, local average mass flow rate through the first two rows of the holes is less than those through the second and third two rows of the holes, and the fraction of mass flow rate through the first two rows to total mass flow rate has a tendency to increase with the increment of M. The flow visualizations reveal that the injection through the first two row results in inferior film coverage even In the case of M = 0.5, meanwhile the row of holes situated at farther downstream location provides higher film-cooling performances for all tested M. This is because film-cooling effectiveness depends on local mainflow velocity at the hole location as well as the mass flow rate through each row.
