The threshold fatigue crack growth and the stable crack propagation behaviors were studied in 7017 T 651, 7020 T 651 and 5083 H 115 aluminum alloys. The threshold (.DELTA. K $_{th}$) fatigue crack growth can be expressed by the equation .DELTA. $K_{th}$) = .DELTA. $K_{tho}$(1-R)$^{r}$ , where R is stress ratio, .DELTA. $K_{tho}$ is .DELTA. K at R = 0 and r is material constant. The stable crack growth rate against stress intensity factor range .DELTA. K exhibits the trilinear form with two transitions and results of investigation on crack closure phenomena showed that the crack opening stress intensity factor $K_{op}$ is approximately equal to R $K_{max}$. + .DELTA. Resistance spot welding has been widely used in the sheet metal joining processes because of its high productivity and convenience. Recently, automobile industries are trying to replace partly steel sheets with aluminum alloy sheets. Among currently produced aluminum alloys, Al alloy sheets of Al-Mg-Si(6000 series) are being tested. Especially, 6000 series are the most probable substitute in view of strength and weldability. In this paper, an attempt was made to apply resistance spot welding to joining of dissimilar sheet metals (KS6383+SCPZn or KS6383+SHCP). An effort was made to balance heating rate in the Al alloy with that in the steel sheets by increasing electrode tip diameter. Although resistance spot welding of Al alloy sheet and sheet metals does not produce desirable nugget, it proved to have reasonable strength if optimal weld condition is found by tensile-shear strength and fatigue life test. Since spot weld joints in automobile are always experiencing repeated load, spot welding methodology proposed in this paper is found to be not suitable to automobile body manufacturing.

The constant amplitude loading and 100% single overloading fatigue studies of domestic high tensile 7075-T73 aluminum alloy were performed to exmine the effect of specimen thickness and its mechanisms on fatigue crack growth behavior. The stage II fatigue crack growth rates tend to increase with decreasing specimen thickness under constant amplitude loading condition and this has relation with stress intensity factors and plastic zone size. The amount of retardation by an overload increased with decreasing specimen thickness when the crack depth and baseline stress intensity factors were constant. The crack depth is one of major factors which affect retardation phenomena by an overload and the amount of retardation increase with decreasing the crack depth. Its main mechanisms are crack closure and decreasing of K at the crack tip by branching and deflection of crack. And they are affected by near surface more severely than central portion of specimen.
Ternary semiconductor $Al_{x}$G $a_{1-x}$ Sb crystals which have energy gap of 0.7eV-1.6 eV at room temperature according to the composition ratios were grown by the vertical Bridgman method. The characteristics of the crystals were investigated by XRD, HRTEM and Hall effect. The lattice constants of $Al_{x}$G $a_{1-x}$ Sb crystals were varied from 6.096A over .deg. to 6.135A over .deg. with the composition ratio x. The Hall effect of the $Al_{x}$G $a_{1-x}$ Sb crystals were measured by van der Pauw method with the magnetic field of 3 kilogauss at room temperature. The resistivities of Te-doped $Al_{x}$G $a_{1-x}$ Sb crystals were increased from 0.071 to 5 .OMEGA.-cm at room temperature according to the increment of the composition ratio x. The mobilies of $Al_{x}$G $a_{1-x}$ Sb crystals varied with the composition ratio x resulted in the following three different regions of GaSb-like (0.leq.x.leq.0.3), intermediate (0.3.leq.x.leq.0.4) and AlSb-like (0.4.leq.x.leq.l).q.l).q.l).q.l).

In this study, we theoretically investigate the thermal performances of heat pipes that have different nano-fluid properties. Two different types of nano-particles have been used: $Al_2O_3$ and CuO. The thermal performances of the heat pipes are observed for varying nano-particle aggregations and volume fractions. Both the viscosity and the conductivity increase as the volume fraction and the aggregation increase, respectively. Increasing the volume fraction helps increase the capillary limit in the well-dispersed condition. Whereas, the capillary limit is decreased under the aggregate condition, when the volume fraction increases. The dependence of the heat pipe thermal resistance on the volume fraction, aggregation, and conductivity of the nano-particles is analyzed. The maximum thermal transfer of the heat pipe is highly dependent on the volume fraction because of the high permeability of the heat pipe. For the proposed heat pipe, the optimum volume fraction of the nano-particle can be seen through 3D graphics.
For the preparation of linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE), the copolymerization of ethylene and 1-butene was carried out with various catalysts of titanium alkoxidealkylaluminum compound in slurry phase. The effects of catalyst components, aging time, concentration of catalyst components, polymerization time and temperature on the catalytic activity and copolymer composition were examined. The properties of copolymer obtained were also considered with the correlation to the 1-butene contents. It has been found that the titanium tetra-n-butoxide-diethylaluminum chloride catalyst system was the most suitable for the production of LLDPE with higher catalytic activity, more 1-butene content and less soluble parts. The density, glass transition temperature, melting point and heat of fusion of copolymer were decreased with increasing 1-butene contents.

Al films (1000~4000${\AA}$)were deposited on glass and polymer(polyethersulfine) plastic substrates by DC-magnetron sputtering for plastic-based flat-panel displays. A stepped heating process was used both to improve the electrical characteristics and to diminish the thermal expansion of the polymer substrates. Following this procedure, we could succeed in sputtering Al films without any cracking or shrinkage of the polymer substrates. The treatment temperatures and deposited process of Al films were under 200$^{\circ}C$. Also, this low temperature fabrication process allows the application of plastic substrates. Scanning Electrom Microscopy, Atomic Force Microscopy, X-ray Dffractometry, and electrical measurements such as resistivity measurements were performed to investigate the properties of deposited the Al films and their reliability.

The broadband ultrasonic transducers have been designed to use in obtaining the broadband echo signals from fish schools in relation to the identification of fish species. The broadening of bandwidth was achieved by attaching double acoustic matching layers on the front face of a Tonpilz transducer consisted of an aluminum head, a piezoelectric ring, a brass tail and to evaluate the performance characteristics, such as the transmitting voltage response(TVR) of transducers. The constructed transducers were tested experimentally and numerically by changing the parameters such as impedances and thicknesses of the head, tail and matching layers, in the water tank. Also, the developed transducer was excited by a chirp signal and the received chirp waveforms were analyzed. According to the measured TVR results, the available 3 dB bandwidth of the transducer with double matching layers of an $Al_O_3/epoxy$ composite of 7 mm thick and a polyurethane window of 18 mm thick was 7.3 kHz with a center frequency of 38.8 kHz, and the maximum and the minimum values of the TVR in this frequency region were 135.7 dB and 132.7 dB re $1\;{\mu}Pa/V$ at 1 m, respectively. Also, the available 3 dB bandwidth of the transducer with double matching layers of an $Al_O_3/epoxy$ composite of 11 mm thick and a polyurethane window of 15 mm thick was 6.2 kHz with a center frequency of 38.6 kHz, and the maximum TVR value in the frequency region was 136.3 dB re $1\;{\mu}Pa/V$ at 1 m. Reasonable agreement between the experimental results and the numerical results for the TVR of the developed transducers was achieved. The frequency dependant characteristics of experimentally observed chirp signals closely matched to the measured TVR results. These results suggest that there is potential for increasing the bandwidth by varying other parameters in the transducer design and the material of the acoustic matching layers.
In this paper, a LNA(Low Noise Amplifier) has been developed, which is operating at L-band i.e., 1452∼1492 MHz for satellite DAB(Digital Audio Brcadcasting) receiver. The LNA is designed to improve input and output reflection coefficient and VSWR(Voltage Standing Wave Ratio) by balanced amplifier. The LNA consists of low noise amplification stage and gain amplification stage, which make a using of GaAs FET ATF-10136 and VNA-25 respectively, and is fabricated by hybrid method. To supply most suitable voltage and current, active bias circuit is designed Active biasing offers the advantage that variations in $V_P$ and $I_{DSS}$ will not necessitate a change in either the source or drain resistor value for a given bias condition. The active bias network automatically sets $V_{gs}$ for the desired drain voltage and drain current. The LNA is fabricated on FR-4 substrate with RF circuit and bias circuit, and integrated in aluminum housing. As a reults, the characteristics of the LNA implemented more than 32 dB in gain. 0.2 dB in gain flatness. lower than 0.95 dB in noise figure, 1.28 and 1.43 each input and output VSWR, and -13 dBm in $P_{1dB}$.

The turbine is an important component and has a significant impact on the thermodynamic efficiency of the organic Rankine cycle. A precise preliminary design is essential to developing efficient turbines. In addition, performance analysis and structural analysis are needed to evaluate the performance and structural safety. However, there are only a few exclusive studies on the development process of the radial inflow turbines for the organic Rankine cycle (ORC). In this study, a preliminary design of the ORC radial inflow turbine was performed. Subsequently, the performance and structural analysis were also carried out. The RTDM, which was developed as an in-house code, was used in the preliminary design process. The results of the performance analysis were found to be in good agreement with target performances. Structural analysis of the designed turbine was also carried out in order to determine whether the material selection for this study is suitable for the flow conditions of the designed turbine, and it was found that the selected aluminum alloy is suitable for the designed turbine. However, the reliability of the preliminary design algorithms and numerical methods should be strictly verified by an actual experimental test.
