  • In this study, a slope stability chart for assessing stability of homogeneous simple soil slopes is proposed. Most existing slope stability charts are based on limit equilibrium method, which is not rigorous in mechanical standpoint. Meanwhile, limit analysis based on the principle of virtual work and the bound theorems of plasticity is suitable for evaluating the stability of geotechnical structures such as slope due to its simplicity in computation and mechanical rigor. Numerical limit analysis taking advantage of finite elements and linear programming can consider various slope conditions and, in addition, find the optimum stability solution with effeciency. In this study, a numerical limit analysis program in terms of effective stress is developed and a mechanically rigorous slope stability chart is proposed by performing stability analyses for various slope conditions. Pore pressure ratio, commonly used in stability charts, is applied to consider the effects of pore pressure for effective stress analysis. As a result of comparison between proposed stability chart and Spencer's stability chart, it was found that Spencer's chart solutions are biased to lower bound which means conservative in design.

  • The analysis for stability of slope reinforced with soil nails need professional knowledge and skilled technology for program. So we spend a lot of money and time. In this study, we try to save it. After we analyzed the stability of reinforced slope with MIDAS GTS using shear strength reduction technique, we made charts by result. Charts created in the stydy can be used rapidly in slope disaster prevention. We try to analyze stability of slopes when we changed nail spacing, nail angle, slope type, properties of soil. We obtained relationship as follows; 1) The safety factor appears effectively when the nail angle is $10{\sim}20^{\circ}$. 2) The safety factor appears effectively when the nail spacing is 0.8~1.2m. 3) The error of Singh's and suggested chart are 3.45, 8.65, 4.35% when the slope are 1:0.5, 1:1, 1:2.

  • The purpose of this paper is to formulate and apply the stability analysis of toppling failure by considering the variation of discontinuity characteristics, slope geometry, and loading conditions. The stability condition on toppling failure of rock slope is mainly iuluenced by the dip angle $\alpha_B$ and H/t ratio. In order to check toppling failures in design, the stability charts composed of dip angle $\alpha_B$ versus H/t ratio have been constructed in the paper. In general, smaller dip angle $\alpha_B$ and smaller dip angle $\alpha_B$ and smaller H/T ratio give safer condition. The suggested curves change rapidly at the chitical point around the sone, H/t=4~6. The stable zone in stability charles becomes smaller due to step angle $\data$.

  • This paper presents the deterministic model to evaluate the two dimensional stability of geotextile-reinforced embankments on soft foundations. The potential failure surfaces in this study are assumed as the logarithmic spiral curves refracted at the boundary of layers. To facilitate the iterative calculations, we developed a program that determines the geotextile tensile force for an geoteztile-reinforced embankments. This program can be used for situations with a varying number of soil layers and soil types. A series of calculations have been made for a schematised situation. The results of these series are collected in stability charts, which are compared with those by circular potential failure surfaces. Using these charts in an early stage of the design provides a reasonable estimate of the stability of geotextile-reinforced embankments. In a later stage a more detailed calculation can be made by the developed programs.

  • Soil nailing method is widely used in reinforcing slopes and excavating earth. The analysis of nail-reinforced slopes, generally require complicated computer programs. The purpose of this paper is suggest, Soil stability Chart for nailed slopes which are very useful for pre-design, rapidly design, and final check. Three slope types, three nail lengths and three nail angles are selected for the stability analysis by using limit equilibrium method form Bishop and French. From the above results, this study propose the reinforced design charts for examine the necessity of reinforcement can be examined. The suggested stability chart and Taylor's Slope Stability Chart, showed similar safety factors. This Soil Nailing design charts can provide the solutions for necessity of reinforcement, economical of nail's length ratio and installation angle as well.

  • Marcel Pourbaix에 의해 만들어진 Eh-pH 도표는 화학적으로 안정한 상을 pH와 전위 (Potential or Eh)의 관점으로 도시한 것으로서 수용액 내에서 일어나는 화학반응을 부식-방식의 관점에서 이해하데 유용하게 사용되어 왔다. pH (potential of hydrogen)는 수소이온의 농도의 함수이며, Eh는 표준수소전극 (SHE, standard hydrogen electrode) 에 대한 전위를 나타낸다.

  • The existence of underground cavity should be considered in the assessment of georisk such as ground subsidence. Even if the shear strength of the ground around the cavity is known, it is difficult to accurately analyze the safety around the cavity due to the uncertainties related to geometric conditions such as the cavity size. In this paper, stability chart representing dimensionless stability constants was proposed based on the ground strength and geometric conditions. Numerical analysis had been carried out accounting for the stability constants such as the ground strength, the adhesion and friction angles, and the size and depth of the underground cavity. The proposed charts can help estimating the stability of ground with underground circular cavity.

  • Unstiffened seated connections (USC) ensure easy installation and safety during erection, thereby making the process more economical. USCs consist of a seat angle for carrying the beam's reactions and a top angle to provide beam stability. These angles are bolted or welded to the beam and supporting member. This paper sought to propose a design table for the weld strength of such connections obtained from the elastic vector method (EVM) and the instantaneous center-of-rotation method (ICM) in terms of calculating the eccentricity. Also, the proposed design table is compared with both AISC and KBC specifications.

  • Geosynthetics as a reinforcing material for earth structures have ever increased due to their excellent economy, fine external appearance, and easy construction. Geogrids are high-strength, orientated-polymer grid structures used to reinforce soil. This paper deals with the construction and sire monitoring for a 5.1m high-reinforcd slope with $75^{\circ}$ steep. The purpose of site monitoring is to evaluate the applicability of reforced slope with geogrid. Full scale field performance during and after construction was monitored by incorporating instrumentation including strain gauges on the geogrid, and horizontal and vertical movements.
