  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of distress tolerance on subjective well-being and the mediating effect of experiential avoidance in the relationship between distress tolerance and subjective well-being. We conducted an online survey a total of 285 normal adults in the nation from October 21 to 24, 2015. The questionnaire was composed of a distress intolerance index, a concise measure of subjective well-being, and acceptance action questionnaire. And questionnaires were distributed and retrived by an online survey company. Collected data has been analyzed by the structural equation modeling. The correlation analysis showed that distress tolerance was positively correlated with subjective well-being, while negatively with experiential avoidance. Also, the verification of mediating effects of experiential avoidance in the relation between distress tolerance and subjective well-being indicated that experiential avoidance partly mediated the relationship at a meaningful level. Additionally, deflection correction bootstrap analysis was used to verify indirect effects and its results revealed that the mediating effect going from distress tolerance to subjective well-being passing through experiential avoidance was statistically significant. That is, distress tolerance not only influences subjective well-being directly but also influences indirectly through experiential avoidance. Finally, significance and limitations of this study were discussed along with the suggestions for further research.

  • This study aims to study the impact of pet attachment on subjective well-being, focusing on individuals who live with pets. In addition, it is to recognize that their basic psychological requirement mediates between pet attachment and subjective well-being. For this purpose, a survey was performed on 358 adults living with pets nationwide. The final data of 319 people were evaluated after excluding invalid information. Dependent on the theoretical approach of the attachment theory, the human-pet relationship was examined by dividing it into two orthogonal dimensions pet attachment prevention and pet attachment anxiety(Zilcha-Mano et al., 2011). The mediating effects were investigated as an in-depth mechanism that mediates between pet attachment and subjective well-being, the mediating effects were examined, in terms of the three basic psychological needs of Self-Determination Theory, which are autonomy, competence, and relatedness. As an outcome, first, pet attachment prevention and pet attachment anxiety both revealed a negative correlation with subjective well-being. Second, basic psychological needs, which are autonomy, competence, and relatedness, are mediated between pet attachment and subjective well-being. Autonomy, competence, and relatedness fully mediated the relationship between pet attachment avoidance and subjective well-being. Meanwhile, in the case of pet attachment anxiety, only autonomy among basic psychological needs is fully mediated between pet attachment anxiety and subjective well-being in the case of pet attachment avoidance. This means that pet attachment prevention or pet attachment anxiety correlates with subjective well-being by satisfying basic psychological needs instead of directly affecting personal well-being. Regarding the pet effect, it is meaningful to find an in-depth mechanism that the human-pet relationship has for an adaptive and positive impact on humans.

Also trait anxiety had significant positive relationship with burnout and significant negative relationship with subjective well-being. In addition, burnout had significant negative relationship with subjective well-being. Second, trait anxiety and burnout fully mediated the relationship between socially prescribed perfectionism and subjective well-being. Third, there was a dual mediation effect on trait anxiety and burnout in the relationship between socially prescribed perfectionism and subjective well-being. • This study investigated the effect of parental attachment on interpersonal competence and psychological well-being of college students. 625 college students completed self-administered questionnaires. Reliability test, ANOVA, Duncan ex-post analysis, and hierarchical regression analysis on data were used. Study results showed that parental attachement and interpersonal competence had significant effects on college students' psychological well-being. Results also depicted gender differences in the relationship of study variables; students' interpersonal competence demonstrated partial mediation effect in the relation of attachment with the same-sex parent and psychological well-being, while complete mediation effect in that of attachment with the opposite-sex parent and psychological well-being, These findings suggest that gender-conscious university policies to promote interpersonal competence among students are greatly needed to ensure psychological well-being of the student population.
