Cellulose nitrates were used for folklore artifacts(ornamental beads and pipes in hatstrings, frames of eyeglasses, ornamental eyeglass cases, headband ornaments, and jeogori buttons) between the 19th and 20th centuries; however, they are susceptible to cracking, crazing, embrittlement, and crumbling due to deterioration. To consolidate and adhere deteriorated cellulose nitrate folklore artifacts, water-soluble acrylic emulsion adhesives were investigated. For consolidation, Plextol D 498, which has the lowest viscosity in low concentrations, was used. In adhesive films whose glass transition temperature(Tg) is lower than room temperature, the tensile stress and modulus decreased and the strain increased; therefore, the flexibility was high. The Plextol D 498 and Plextol D 498 and Dispersion K 52 films maintained their adhesiveness and flexibility after artificial-sunlight-accelerated ageing, and Plextol D 498 and Dispersion K 52 films hardly caused yellowing. Plextol D 498 was the most stable for accelerating ageing. A low concentration of Plextol D 498 emulsion resulted in the best permeability on the surface of cellulose nitrate, compared with other acrylic emulsions. To prevent ornamental hatstrings from cracking, crazing, embrittlement, and crumbling, a Plextol D 498 emulsion was used. After applying low concentrations(1%, 3%) of the emulsion to consolidate the fragments and high concentration to adhere the fragments, the ornamental hatstrings were protected from crumbling by deterioration, and their fragments were well-adhered. To preserve it from deterioration by oxygen and humidity, the treated ornament was sealed with an oxygen-barrier film using a low-humidity oxygen scavenger.
An Immunostimulating polysaccharide was produced from the suspension culture of Angelica gigas H4, plant cells. In order to enhance the polysaccharide production by the A. gigas cell culture, medium composition and physical conditions were optimized. Schenk and Hildebrandt (SH) medium was selected as an optimal basal medium for the growth of A. gigas. The maximum cell and polysaccharide concentration obtained in SH medium were 15.8 g DCW/l and 0.85 g polysaccharide/l, respectively, at $25^{\circ}C$ under dark condition. For the enhanced polysaccharide production, a polysaccharide production medium (PPM) was established by modifying Gamborg B5 medium with optimized carbon sources, growth regulators, organic and inorganic elements. Optimal initial pH and temperature were 6.0-6.6 and $20^{\circ}C$, respectively, and the dark condition was better than the light condition. The maximum polysaccharide concentration of 1.5 g/l could be obtained through the optimization of the medium composition and physical conditions.
Purpose: To know the transmittance of light when wearing shading goggles and to protect eyes from blue light emitted from dental scanner when using CAD/CAM works or inducing polymerization reactions of dental resin with curing unit and infrared light occurred when melting Dental precious metal and non-precious metal alloys. Methods: By measuring and comparing the average transmittances of blue light, visible light and infrared ight by using UV-Vis Spectrophotometer analysis measuring instrument, I compared 3 GREEN Color Goggles worn when casting Dental precious metal and non-precious metal alloys, and compared each of YELLOW, ORANGE Color Goggles worn when using Dental CAD/CAM scanners and Light Curing(LED) the Dental resin. Results: In blue light range, YELLOW Color Goggles are more effective than ORANGE Color Goggles. In infrared light range, No.12 Goggles are more effective than No.10 and No.11 Goggles. Conclusion: When wearing blue light shading goggles to avoid harmful blue light occurred in using dental scanner and curing light, and when wearing infrared light shading goggles to avoid harmful infrared light during casting, to avoid the Side Effects like transmittance rate of blue light and infrared light goggles becomes too high to block appropriate amount of harmful light or too low that causing lower image clarity.

In this paper, we propose a feature extraction method for iris recognition using wavelet transforms. The wavelet transform is fast and has a good localization characteristic. In particular, the low frequency band can be used as an effective feature vector. In iris recognition, the noise caused by eyelid the eyebrow, glint, etc may be included in iris. The iris pattern is distorted by noises by itself, and a feature extraction algorithm based on filter such as Wavelets, Gabor transform spreads noises into whole iris region. Namely, such noises degrade the performance of iris recognition systems a major problem. This kind of noise has adverse effect on performance. In order to solve these problems, we propose to divide the iris image into a number of sub-region and apply the wavelet transform to each sub-region. Experimental results show that the performance of proposed method is comparable to existing methods using Gabor transform and region division noticeably improves recognition performance. However, it is noted that the processing time of the wavelet transform is much faster than that of the existing methods.

An optical system for a stereoscopic video recorder is designed with the field of view 42$^{\circ}$ and effective diameter 22 mm. We can use it by attaching it to the front lens of any video camera or camcorder to record a stereoscopic scene. This system is a double Kepler type afocal system to make the image erect and a bi-ocular type to record and display the stereoscopic scene. The optical tube length is folded with several flat mirrors and a beam splitter to be compact. This optical system is composed of 4 groups of lenses and each group serves as a relay lens for minimizing the vignetting effect. Whole field stereoscopic scenes may be captured by perpendicularly polarized alternated recording with a chopper and two perpendicular polarizers, without any loss of light energy. The displayed images may be seen stereoscopically with polarized spectacles and are kinetic because of an afterimage effect.

There are unrestricted conditions on the driver's face inside the vehicle, such as changes in lighting, partial occlusion and various changes in the driver's condition. In this paper, we propose a face identification system in an unrestricted vehicle environment. The proposed method uses a near-infrared (NIR) camera to minimize the changes in facial images that occur according to the illumination changes inside and outside the vehicle. In order to process a face exposed to extreme light, the normal face image is changed to a simulated overexposed image using mean and variance for training. Thus, facial classifiers are simultaneously generated under both normal and extreme illumination conditions. Our method identifies a face by detecting facial landmarks and aggregating the confidence score of each landmark for the final decision. In particular, the performance improvement is the highest in the class where the driver wears glasses or sunglasses, owing to the robustness to partial occlusions by recognizing each landmark. We can recognize the driver by using the scores of remaining visible landmarks. We also propose a novel robust rejection and a new evaluation method, which considers the relations between registered and unregistered drivers. The experimental results on our dataset, PolyU and ORL datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Purpose: We investigated the changes of plastic lens after etching of coating films by comparing uncoated lens. Methods: CR-39, middle index and high index lenses of 0 (zero) diopter were etched at $80^{\circ}C$ and room temperature using a coating remover, and then changes of refractive power, transmittance and surface morphology were investigated. Results: There were no differences in refractive power and transmittance between uncoated and etched lenses. The etching rate was similar in both CR-39 and middle index lens, but in the case of high index lens, it was slower and less steady than the others. From the SEM observation of lens surface, etching damage was found out on the surface of etched lens. It was shown the least damage in middle index lens but the most damage in high index lens. Conclusions: If the etching of coating films is demanded on condition that the surface of ophthalmic lenses are not damaged, a using of most adequate coating remover based on lens material should be considered, and a caution for proper etching conditions is required.

Most of the rivers which exist in nature are not a single river but the network that is composed of several branches and mainstreams. The river network are more complicated than other sigle rivers and streams. Therefore the hydraulic characteristics are sensitively changed by reduction and expansion of the width in the confluence or the variation of the flux. In this paper, the hydraulic characteristics were calculated by the change of the width and length in the confluence and the hydraulic model test. The deposit of confluence emerged at the left bank, right bank and the stagnation sector. As the total flow in the branch have increased, stagnation of the left bank and right bank have decreased. When the width of the downstream have been get smaller from 3 m to 2 m, the deposit of the left bank and right bank and stagnation sector have decreased. But as the eddy flow in the center of the confluence is occurred, the erosion has been increased. The result of this paper can be used as a basic data of water management around the junction and for maintenance on the ground of development of the river.
