Real-time Interactive Particle-art with Human Motion Based on Computer Vision Techniques (컴퓨터 비전 기술을 활용한 관객의 움직임과 상호작용이 가능한 실시간 파티클 아트)

  • We present a real-time interactive particle-art with human motion based on computer vision techniques. We used computer vision techniques to reduce the number of equipments that required for media art appreciations. We analyze pros and cons of various computer vision methods that can adapted to interactive digital media art. In our system, background subtraction is applied to search an audience. The audience image is changed into particles with grid cells. Optical flow is used to detect the motion of the audience and create particle effects. Also we define a virtual button for interaction. This paper introduces a series of computer vision modules to build the interactive digital media art contents which can be easily configurated with a camera sensor.

  • '출판및인쇄진흥법' 제정에 따른 출판 인쇄산업 발전방안에 관한 토론회가 문화광광부 주최로 지난 12일 오후 2시부터 4시까지 문화관광부 5층 대회의실에서 출판.인쇄산업 관련단체와 업계 및 학계 대표자 등 50여명이 참석한 가운데 개최됐다. 문화관광부는 이날 토론회와 '출판.인쇄산업 발전방향에 관한 제안서'를 토대로 출판.인쇄산업을 21세기 지식기반산업으로 21세기 지식기반산업으로 육성.지원하는 중장기 계획을 마련할 방침이다. 박광무 문화부 출판신문과장의 개회사에 이어 한기호 한국출판마케팅연구소장의 사회로 진행된 이날 토론회에서는 백원근 한국출판연구소 선임연구원이 '출판산업의 비전 및 발전방향'에 대해, 이창경 신구대학교 출판미디어과 교수가 '출판 전문인력 양성방안'에 대해, 유창준 대한인쇄문화협회 월간 프린팅코리아 편집국장이 '인쇄문화산업 진흥방안'에 대해, 김용문 세무사가 '출판.인쇄문화산업 발전을 위한 조세지원 방안'에 대해 각각 주제 발표를 했다. 이어 김기태 세명대 미디어창작학과 교수와 이기성 계원조형예술대 전자출판학과 교수, 이근순 피알아트닷컴 대표(신구대 겸임교수), 정대희 장안대 세무학과 겸임교수가 토론자로 참석, 열띤 토론을 벌였다. 다음은 주제 발표 내용을 요약 소개한다.

  • This study aims to find methodical similarities between pop art and Robert Venturi's works. Pop art and Robert Venturi's works gave attention to periodical changes and wanted to communicate with the public. This study approaches a topic from psychological viewpoints, especially visual dissonance. The results are as follows: 1. Manufactured Products ; Commercial Ornaments ${\rightarrow}$ Character Changes in Experienced Stimulation 2. Daily Elements ; Traditional Elements(Classic) ${\rightarrow}$ Contextual Effect of Canonic Representation In these cases, visual dissonance attracted a lot of public attention, and people would develop new meanings of objet. Pop art and Robert Venturi's works indicated value change in post-industrial society, therefore, this study can help to understand the correlation.

  • Criticism of the postmodern philosophy of the system of representation, which has continued since the Renaissance, is based on a critique of the dichotomy that separates the subjects and objects and the environment from the human being. Interactivity, highlighted in a series of works emerging as postmodern trends in the 1960s, was transmitted to an interactive aspect of digital art in the late 1990s. The key feature of digital art is the possibility of infinite variations reflecting unpredictable changes based on public participation on the spot. In this process, the importance of computer programs is highlighted. Instead of using the existing program as it is, more and more artists are creating and programming their own algorithms or creating unique algorithms through collaborations with programmers. We live in an era of paradigm shift in which programming itself must be considered as a creative act. Simulation technology and VR technology draw attention as a technique to represent the meaning of reality. Simulation technology helps artists create experimental works. In fact, Baudrillard's concept of Simulation defines the other reality that has nothing to do with our reality, rather than a reality that is extremely representative of our reality. His book Simulacra and Simulation refers to the existence of a reality entirely different from the traditional concept of reality. His argument does not concern the problems of right and wrong. There is no metaphysical meaning. Applying the concept of simulation to algorithmic art, the artist models the complex attributes of reality in the digital system. And it aims to build and integrate internal laws that structure and activate the world (specific or individual), that is to say, simulate the world. If the images of the traditional order correspond to the reproduction of the real world, the synthesized images of algorithmic art and simulated space-time are the forms of art that facilitate the experience. The moment of seeing and listening to the work of Ian Cheng presented in this article is a moment of personal experience and the perception is made at that time. It is not a complete and closed process, but a continuous and changing process. It is this active and situational awareness that is required to the audience for the comprehension of post-representation's forms.

Expressional Characteristics of Media Art in Hussein Chalayan's Fashion Works (후세인 살라얀의 패션 작품에 나타난 미디어 아트의 표현 특성)

  • This article aims to research and analyze expressional characteristics of media art in Hussein Chalayan's fashion works. Media technology has made rapid progress over every society, in which it enables multi-dimensional communication. Under this social background, media art can use a multiplicity of technologies and go public. Media art had great influences in fashion with the leading designer as Hussein Chalayan. His works has been selected from the 90s up until 2008 focusing on expressional characteristics of media art by a professional group of fashion design. By classifying and analyzing of Hussein Chalayan's fashion works, expressional characteristics of media art displayed from works of the late 90s, and in recent years, the use of various technologies has increased. Expressional characteristics of media art in his works have been re-classified as interactivity, transfonnation, visualization, and transparency. First, interactivity by the wearer's action and emotional change is effective on emotional express, body protection and the causing of interest. Second, transfonnation by the wearer's action, functioning, and emotional change is influenced by convenience, body protection, and causing concern. Third, immateriality in media art is divided into visualization and transparency, and in fashion structural and material characteristics. Visualization by internal luminous source and digital images influences immersion and expression on fantasy images. Fourth, transparency by immaterial characteristics and piled up images affects openness and camouflage. Development of material and technology paves the way for expressional characteristics of media art in fashion. The trend of Hussein Chalayan's works moves towards emotional high-tech design with technology.

Effects of the Making-books Program on Children's Creativity (메이킹북 프로그램이 초등학교 2학년 아동의 창의성에 미치는 효과)

  • The Making-books Program(Byun, unpublished) uses the Arts PROPEL approach based on multiple-intelligences theory(Gardner, 1983). PROPEL is a loose acronym for production, perception and reflection, 3 stages in the learning process. The Making-books Program includes designing rubrics, making-books, and publishing. Effect of the program on creativity was examined by before- and after-testing by TTCT. Participants were 63 7-year-old children with 30 children in the experimental and 33 children in the control group. On the pre-test, there was no between groups difference in the participants' creativity on the TTCT. After 21 treatments, the effectiveness of the Making-books Program was shown by significant between group differences on the post-test.

  • For the proper utilization of daylight in a building, an architect should be able to utilize the building enveloped as a filter to admit daylight into the building. The daylighting concepts commonly used in buildings are categorized as sidelighting, toplighting and atrium, and their lighting concepts and characteristics are discussed. The decision of the daylighting concepts for a building should be based on the analysis of the quantity, characteristics and directionality of daylight, and resulting contrast effect.

  • The change in 21st century imaging media technology is changing our modern visual system. Virtual reality HMD devices, one of the core technologies of 5G, reproduce the new visual system. However, there is a lack of analysis and understanding of the visual operating system to understand the visual system of the fast-changing variety of imaging media. This study analyzed the three visual systems appearing in the recent imaging media art area and presented an engineering perspective algorithm for its procedures and methods. Through these results, we want to build algorithms that understand the visual system of virtual reality HMD devices.

  • Modern Art Furniture has been represented new idea and energy for futuristic furniture design by interacting and confronting with 3 points of view, which are; the idea and emotion of art, the form and concept of design, and the technique and materials of craft. Besides, meanings of modern Art Furniture are also can be described as followed.   • Development of digital technology is advancing to levels which influence the formation of city landscapes and spaces. The use of media facade is creating modernized city-spaces with contemporary application of various digital mediums. In this way, media facade functions as media-art in an artistic point of view, while also providing the means for buildings to become landmarks in a city-scape point of view. Going a step further, media facade using interaction is drawing a lot of attention as it enables communication with the city inhabitants instead of one-way contents provision. This paper will research such interactive media facade using transparent display glass currently being used as construction building material and its potential growth.
