Comparative study of the food Instrument design for the Design Preference and Creativity between Korea and Malaysia (음식도구에 대한 디자인선호와 창의성평가요소에 대한 비교 - 말레이시아와 한국을 중심으로 한 디자인 사례연구 -)

  • 국가 간 문화의 차이에 의하여 생활습관이나 방식이 많이 다르게 나타난다. 그 중에서도 음식은 다른 분야보다 많은 차이를 나타난다. 특히 음식의 종류에 따라 사용되는 음식도구 중 디자인요소가 동일하고 유사한 것이 있거나 다른 요소와 기능을 갖는 경우도 있다. 따라서 각 국가 간의 음식도구를 유니버설 하게 사용할 수 있는 도구 디자인 연구가 필요하다. 본 연구의 목적은 음식에 대한 행동분석프로세스를 개발하여 국가 간 음식문화의 차이에서 오는 공통점과 차이점을 찾아내어 공용으로 사용할 수 있는 음식도구의 디자인요소를 창의성의 관점에서 제안하기 위한 연구이다. 본 연구의 연구방법과 내용으로는 첫째, 음식에 대한 소비자행동 분석 프로세스의 개발 및 관찰을 통하여 행동분석에 대한 이론적 고찰과 현장에서 일어나고 있는 행동분석을 접목하여 음식행동분석프로세스를 개발하였다. 둘째로, 개발된 프로세스를 이용하여 국가 간 음식의 주문부터 평가까지의 과정을 비교 분석하고 나타난 현상에 대한 문제점 파악 및 이에 대한 결과물을 각 국가별 학생들을 대상으로 음식도구에 대한 디자인 개발을 진행하였다. 셋째, 국가별 개발된 디자인 안을 대상으로 선호도, 요인분석, 상관분석을 통하여 국가별 선호요소와 창의성평가요소의 상관관계를 알아보았다. 본 연구를 통하여 얻어지는 효과는 개발된 프로세스를 이용하여 국가별, 음식별, 행동별, 식당형태별로 비교분석이 가능하도록 하게 하고 얻어진 결과를 이용하여 구체적으로 음식도구 디자인에 이용할 수 있으며 국가간 동일 아이템을 디자인 교육시간에 진행시켜 대학의 디자인교육의 비교를 통하여 상호간에 협력과 상호보완으로 새로운 아이디어를 공유, 아이디어 전개에 도움이 될 수 있다.

  • The results of VE (Value Engineering) analyses are highly feasible proposals that are produced by utilizing the experience and knowledge of professionals from a variety of fields. As such, the results of past similar projects can be useful in new projects. On this basis, it is vital to accumulate the historical data of the results on VE analyses performed at every stage, which are functions, ideas, and proposals. In this research, a data formational system for collecting this historic data was established by categorizing 'Item,' 'Function,' 'Idea,' and 'Proposal' according to VE process, and the data retrieval and the adjusting process were proposed. If the historic data of these are accumulated using the suggested method, it is expected to be useful at the stage of VE process.

  • This study conducted a comparison analysis on the difference in the subjectivity structure of Korean and Chinese consumers based on their types of perception on advertisements of automobiles which has a high degree of self interest. The primary reason for conducting a comparison study of Korean and Chinese consumers was to concretize the characteristics of Chinese consumers who have enormous potential and rapid growth in the global market. In addition, by comparing the characteristics of Korean and Chinese consumers that changed with differences in social systems and socio-economic characteristics, the purpose was to present an advertising strategy idea that is useful for both countries. Furthermore, when taking into consideration the reality that the world must compete in a single market commonly referred to as the global market, understanding the subjectivity structure of perception of Korean and Chinese consumers is critical in establishing a strategy for occupying the upper position of dominance in such competition. Based on the results of the study, subjectivity structures on the perception of advertisements possessed by Korean and Chinese consumers of the same Asian culture differed but were mutually interrelated. Such results suggest that there is a need for further studies of generalization and objectification through a quantitative approach.

  • The idea behind Open Source Software(OSS) that permits users to study, change, and improve, is similar to the spirit of the library that has been developed through cooperations and resource sharing rather than competition. OSS is regarded as an alternative, low-cost technical innovation based on librarian's creative idea and standardized business process. Enthusiasm of the community is fundamental to successful installations and sustainable development. This study analyzed two community-based OSS ILS, namely KOHA and Next_L and suggested a future direction for domestic libraries. In the case of Korea, it is desirable for a library consortium to develop an OSS ILS for small- and medium-sized libraries. Most importantly, strong consensus about OSS ILS among the practiting librarians should be developed first.

  • There are life-style and many different cultural differences between countries. Among them, food is different from other areas. Especially, if Food Tools are used by food type, even though the design factor is same, the function is different. Therefore, research and development of a Food Tool design is necessary to use a Universal Food Tool between countries. The purpose of this research is to develop a behavior analysis process for food, finding similarities and differences by food type; and cultural differences between countries; and to propose a design Food Tool design that can be used between countries. This research on methods and content is for the development of the consumer behavior analysis process about food, grafting theoretical studies about behavior analysis and working behavior analysis on the spot, to develop a food action analysis process. Second, do comparative analysis process of food order and evaluation between countries; and think about the problems and symptoms, then propose methods to resolve the problems. Third, each process is divided by category, to find the features by each category of foods between countries. Results may be obtained through research and the comparative analysis of each country's, foods, behavior and restaurant types. Specifically, researchers can use food tool design to obtain results and compare the same items between countries, compare university design education, and create new ideas through cooperation and complementary research.

A Study on Intelligent Image Database based on Fuzzy Set Theory (퍼지이론에 기초한 지적 감성검색시스템에 관한 연구)

  • Among Human Sensibility-oriented products a gap between the images that designers try to express through that product and users emotional evaluation becomes an issue. The data on the correlation between image words used for design evaluation and images used in the design process are especially significant. This study based on these correlations suggests a Fuzzy retrieval system supporting styling design with images and image words. In the system, the relational data are demonstrated by Fuzzy thesaurus as correlation coefficient from the degree of similarity among image words. And the degree of similarity is produced based on image evaluation. Image retrieval is conducted by the algorithm of Fuzzy thesaurus development, 1) among image words, 2) images to image words, 3) image words to images and 4) among images: 4 different modes are provided as retrieval modes. Also transfer between modes is carried by direct operating interface, therefore divergent thinking and convergent thinking is supported well. The system consists of operation for the gap and the measurement unit of emotional evaluation, and visualization units. Under unified interface environments are set in order for consistency of the operation.

  • Appreciating gardens in garden show has its meaning in appreciating concepts and ideas of artists, hidden inside of garden, as formative arts, as well as the beauty of the nature. This study is aimed to understand the intension of artists in visual expression through formative media in the gardens by assessing structure of visual narrative in the space with 20 artworks among the ones presented in 2018 Taehwagang Garden Show. The formative structure is delivered as contents and forms through formative media and formative language. Thus, for analysis on the artworks, the researcher assessed expressive characteristics of the media, through visual and space language, that forms the formative structure in the contest of narrative structure expressed in the gardens and findings of the analysis are as follows. First, for intertextuality obtained through media image, most of the artworks delivered message through 'figure image.' This means, the concept is delivered as 'affinity of actual objects' through the media and associated 'meaning and meaning action' are expected. Second, the characteristics of signs to show symbolism in the gardens were categorized into 'icon'. 'index' and 'symbol'. The results showed that most of the artworks expressed common characteristics between image and meaning, using 'icon' and 'symbol'. Third, as space formation components, based on formative principles, the components of 'dominant' and 'subordinate' roles were defined as the key components for meaning delivery. Also, it was understood that 'space configuration with overlapped image' and 'space configuration with transparency' were adopted to strengthen conceptional layers. Forth, for space occupation types, there were mostly central hall type, corridor type and passage space type and for open space type, the entire space area was conceptualized, instead of certain object. The circulation line was defined in the frequency order of circular type, pass type and return type. The study on the expressive characteristics of visual narrative in garden design is meaningful as it could build base data for the method of spatial design for visual development of concepts in the future.

A Genetic Algorithm with Ageing chromosomes (나이를 먹는 염색채를 갖는 유전자 알고리즘)

  • This paper proposes a modified GA whose individuals have their own ages. Thus, a chromosome will die only when the age becomes zero, as a result, the population size of this method increases according to the generations. This helps a GA to preserve the good characteristics of a few chromosomes during several generations if the ages are evaluated with fitness values. As a result, the performance of the method is better than that of existing ones. A multi-modal function optimization problem is employed to simulate the performance of this method. To show the effective:~esso f ageing paradigm, three ageing evaluation methods are introduced. A paper whose itlea is similar to that of ours have been published in a conference. We also experimented a method that showed the best performance in the paper. Original simple GA was also experimented and the performance is compared with others. However, the perforniance of the previous method shows worse than that of our methods in some aspects because the previous method didn't take the fitness value into account in the selection process.

A Study of the Planning Process, Design Idea and Implementation of the Gwanghwamun Plaza (광화문광장 조성과정 및 설계 연구)

  • This study aims to investigate the complex planning processes and design ideas of the Gwanghwamun Plaza which was opened in 2009. The opening of the plaza was significant as it was built in order to restore the symbolic meaning of axis in the historical Joseon Dynasty that was distorted during the Japanese Imperialism. The plaza itself attracts many citizens and tourists by providing the empty ground carrying historical ambiences around. In this paper, the story of the Gwanghwamun plaza will be summarized. Particularly, the background of promoting the project will be discussed and the whole planning process will be dealt with. The plaza was realized through several stages. First, the planning stage will be reviewed. The planning stage had been a quite long process since the initial idea was discussed. Since the early 90s, the political decision of making the plaza was made through the change of people's understanding toward public space. At this stage, the city government worked together with diverse citizens and professionals to share the vision and to realize the right decision in making the plaza. Second, the design stage will be elaborated in detail. This is the second design stage. The former was the idea competition and the latter was the turn-key base. The final design scheme emphasized the restoration of symbolic axis and the forgotten Yukjo Street. The scheme consists of four zones such as history restoration zone, prospect and history representation zone, culture zone, and the urban zone. Through the whole design process, the original idea remained as it was. The design concept was "a place of memory and prospect." It emphasizes the history representation, view corridor, cultural activities platform as well as the emptiness and flexibility of the basic premise of the plaza. Finally, the construction stage will be discussed. There were some additions and omissions in the construction process. The design chances in the construction stage will be reviewed in detail. After the opening of the plaza, there were some changes in the detail design. We will discuss how and why these modifications were made. In the end, the social and cultural implication of the plaza will be discussed. The storytelling of the Gwanghwamun Plaza will contribute to the clear understanding of planning and design process of pubic places. Based on this reflection, we are able to think about some suggestions of public projects for the future.

Recursive SPIHT(Set Partitioning in Hierarchy Trees) Algorithm for Embedded Image Coding (내장형 영상코딩을 위한 재귀적 SPIHT 알고리즘)

  • A number of embedded wavelet image coding methods have been proposed since the introduction of EZW(Embedded Zerotree Wavelet) algorithm. A common characteristic of these methods is that they use fundamental ideas found in the EZW algorithm. Especially, one of these methods is the SPIHT(Set Partitioning in Hierarchy Trees) algorithm, which became very popular since it was able to achieve equal or better performance than EZW without having to use an arithmetic encoder. In this paper We propose a recursive set partitioning in hierarchy trees(RSPIHT) algorithm for embedded image coding and evaluate it's effectiveness experimentally. The proposed RSPIHT algorithm takes the simple and regular form and the worst case time complexity of O(n). From the viewpoint of processing time, the RSPIHT algorithm takes about 16.4% improvement in average than the SPIHT algorithm at T-layer over 4 of experimental images. Also from the viewpoint of coding rate, the RSPIHT algorithm takes similar results at T-layer under 7 but the improved results at other T-layer of experimental images.
