The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships and predictor variable between father's child-rearing behaviors and children's sex-role taking, emotional responses and children's prosocial behavior by demographic variables and mother's work status. Subjects were 142 kindergarten children and their mothers in Busan. Three type of measurement were used in this study; (1) Two scales for father's child-rearing behaviors and children's emotional responses, (2) an interview for children's sex-role taking, and (3) amount of candies to share with classmates for children's prosocial behavior. Data were analyzed by Pearson's correlation coefficient, t-test, F-test, multiple regression, Scheffe's post hoc test using the SAS computer program. There were significant correlations between father's child-rearing behaviors and children's sex-role taking, and between father's child-rearing behaviors and children's prosocial behavior. There were significant differences in father's child-rearing behaviors, children's emotional respones, and children prosocial behavior by SES and mother's job. Father's child-rearing behaviors were the most important predictor variables influencing children's sex-role taking and children's prosocial behavior.
The purpose of this study was to examine the main and interaction effects of fathers' parenting and their play participation on emotional regulation of preschoolers. The participants of this study consisted of 269 preschoolers (M: 61.4 months, SD: 15.3) located in Seoul and Gyeong-gi province. The results of regression analysis revealed that; 1) Father's parenting (such as rational instruction, friendly attitude) positively predicted child's emotion regulations. 2) The interaction effects of fathers' parenting (such as parenting participation, reaction, rational instruction, friendly attitude) with their constructive play participation predicted children's emotion regulations. Namely, fathers with higher constructive play participation showed higher emotion regulations of preschoolers under father's parenting participation, reaction, rational instruction and friendly attitude. 3) The interaction effects between fathers' functional play participation and father's parenting participation predicted children's emotion regulations. Findings indicate that fathers play a role in improving children's emotion regulation by parenting. Moreover, its effects appeared more apparently when fathers participated with constructive and functional play methods. In conclusion, it is suggested that fathering and the level of play involvement may be key variables for developing young children's emotion regulation.

This study analyzed the trend of researches regarding parenting involvement of fathers with early childhood children in terms of research period, research content and research method. Forty master's thesis and doctoral dissertation and 22 articles were selected for final analysis. Collected data were analyzed using frequency and percentage ratio. The results of this study showed that research on the parenting involvement of fathers has been rapidly increased since 2005. From the perspective of research content, studies dealing with parenting involvement of fathers as an independent variable focused on early children and social and emotional variables. Most of studies dealing with parenting involvement of fathers as an dependent variable consistently dealt with demographic variables. From the perspective of research method, most researches were quantitative and non-experimental. No research was done using qualitative method and all researches except one were done using non-experimental method. The number of participants in most researches were over 100 and less than 400. Most researches used participants from one particular district. Research instruments validated in Korea were used in most researches. These results were discussed with suggestions for further study.
The purpose of this study was to develop instruments for measuring paternal child rearing involvement. A second purpose was to investigate the relationship between social competency of child and the father's involvement in child rearing. Fathers' child rearing involvement inventories were administered to 513 5th and 6th grade school students to evaluate children's perceived father's rearing involvement. Assessment of the child's social competency by the mother was by the modified Iowa Social Competency Scale. Data were analyzed by factor analysis, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and canonical correlation. The main results were as follows: (1) There were differences in mean scores between variables on father's child rearing involvement. The mean score of 'day-to-day guidance' was higher than such father's involvement variables as 'family activities', 'household affairs', 'home education'. (2) There was a significant correlation between the social competency of children and father's child rearing involvement. In other words, fathers' child rearing involvement showed significant correlations with 'the capability' and 'leadership' of children. (3) The canonical analysis in two variables-the fathers' child rearing involvement (independent variables) and the children's social competency (dependent variables)-showed that the child variables most highly correlated to the independent variables were 'capability' and 'affection toward parents'. This also indicated that the father variables accounted for about 9.4% of the variation in social competency. In conclusion, the father's child rearing involvement can he recognized as significant variable in predicting the social competency of children.
This study investigated the effect of home environment quality and fathers' parenting participation on school readiness of preschool children. The subjects were 101 5-years old children, mothers and teachers at child care centers located in the Gyeonggi area. Home environment quality was measured using a 'Korean Home Environment' questionnaire. Parenting participation by fathers was measured by 'Scale for Productive Roles of Fathers of Children in Their Early Childhood.' Lastly, the children's school readiness measured the 'School Readiness Inventory.' Collected data were analyzed using t-test, correlation analysis, and hierarchical multiple regression. The results of the study showed that the school readiness of preschool children differed by gender. The score of girls' school readiness was higher than boys' school readiness. Such difference was apparent in the school readiness areas of general knowledge, mathematical knowledge, and adjustment. There was a positive correlation between age and the school readiness of preschool children. An increase in children's age also increased school readiness in the areas of linguistic knowledge, mathematical knowledge, and adjustment. Home environment quality and fathers' parenting participation directly influenced the school readiness of preschool children. The pattern of the results suggests that a desirable home environment and fathers' contribution in the family for children are critical components to prepare preschool children for elementary school.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of children's age and their fathers' childrearing involvement on the social morality of young children. Methods: The data were gathered from parents who had 3-5 year old children enrolled in daycare centers and from their daycare teachers. The parents answered questions about their children's socio-demographic background and the father's childrearing involvement. And the teachers rated children's social morality. The data from a total of 245 questionnaires were analyzed by SPSS 25.0. Results: First, there was a statistically significant difference between young children's morality score and convention score. Young children's morality scores were higher than their convention scores. Second, children's age was a significant influential factor on both their moral and conventional social morality. Third, father's care-discipline had the only impact on children's conventional social morality. That is, children's social morality was higher when their fathers gave them more care and guidance. Forth, an interaction effect between children's age and father's development-support on children's conventional social morality was found. Conclusion/Implications: The results from this study suggest that a differentiated approach is needed according to the types of childrearing involvement of fathers in order to improve children's social morality.
Abortion is prohibited in the Philippines by the law of Christianity. Korean fathers wanted abortions when Filipino mothers were pregnant with their babies (Kopino). However, Filipino mothers had to give birth to the Kopino babies. Therefore, Kopino mothers bring up their babies alone. This study tried to measure and compare what Korean and Filipino evaluate towards Kopino mothers explicitly or implicitly. In addition, this study examined how their attitudes towards Kopino mothers change when the Christianity was primed. As a result of this study, Filipino participants, both explicitly and implicitly, liked more about Kopino mothers than Korean participants. Also, Korean participants showed a little positive explicit attitude and implicit attitude towards Kopino mothers. However, Korean males answered that they liked Kopino mothers at the explicit scale, but they had a negative attitude against Kopino mothers at the implicit level. After activating the Christianity by priming, Filipino participants showed a significant increase of positive attitude towards Kopino mothers at the implicit level. On the other hand, Korean participants remained unaffected. Hence, the priming effect of Christianity varied by country. This study confirmed that Korean females didn't have prejudice against Kopino mothers like Filipino but Korean males had prejudice against them.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of parenting education program for adolescents. Parenting education program for adolescents was developed and implemented at three secondary schools in Seoul, Chungcheong province, and Gwangju metropolitan city with focus on the following topics respectively 'parent-child communication', 'understanding fatherhood', and 'preparation for parenting based on self-understanding'. Data were collected from self-reported inventory and 97 data copies for pre- and post tests were used for analyses. Data were analyzed for frequency, percentage, paired t-test and One way ANOVA using SPSS/PC 21.0 program. The results from mean comparison of pre- and post tests were as follows. First, perception of necessity for parenting education and needs for including parenting program into regular secondary school curriculum increased statistically, which means that parenting program must be implemented regularly to meet the demands of adolescents for parenting program. Second, the main reason for not having children was 'burden for rearing children', which means that enough child-care skill and information need to be included. Third, the mean difference between pre- and post tests regarding perception of performing parents' roles was statistically significant, which means that the participants' perception of performing parents' roles became positive. Fourth, the 32 high school students participating in parenting education of 'understanding fatherhood' did not have significant difference in gender role. The 29 middle school students participating in parenting education of 'parent-child communication' had significant difference in perception of communication. The 36 high school students participating in parenting education of 'preparation for parenting based on self-understanding' had significant difference in self-esteem. This results identified the effectiveness of parenting education for adolescents. Therefore, Home Economics subject must be selected to give the opportunity of parenting education to high school students.
The purpose of this study was to answer the following questions. (1) Is there any relationship between father's child-rearing behavior and children's role-taking, between father's child-rearing behaviors and children's prosocial behavior?(2) Is there any relationship between children's role-taking and children's prosocial behavior? (3) Is there any differences in father's child-rearing behaviors, children's role-taking and children's prosocial behavior in relation to children's sex, SES, and mother's job? The study was examined the multiple mediated effects of maternal self-efficacy and depression between perception gap about paternal involvement and marital conflict for dual-income parents. The data used were the fifth year data of the Panel Study on Korean Children from Korea Institute of Child Care and Education in 2012. The subjects consisted of 449 dual-income parents with more than one child. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, one-way analysis of variance, paired t -test, and correlation. SPSS macro and bootstrapping methods also assessed the mediation effects of maternal self-efficacy and depression between the perception gap about paternal involvement and marital conflict in dual-income parents. The results of this study were as follows. Significant positive correlations were observed for marital conflict, perception gap of dual-income parents about paternal involvement and maternal depression. Perception gaps by parents and self-efficacy were negatively correlated. Perception gaps by parents showed a direct effect on marital conflict. The results of indirect effects of all mediators showed the mediated effect of maternal self-efficacy and depression. The study revealed that the perceptive gap about paternal involvement has a significant impact on maternal self-efficacy and depression, as well as marital conflict. The perceptive gap of dual-income parents about paternal involvement has critical effects on marital conflict as much as the quantity of paternal involvement.
