For this purpose, this researcher conducted profound interviews with 6 fathers residing in P city who have young children in order to identify images that they were having about themselves. The interviews were conducted from Aug. 7th to 30th, 2012 over a total of 3 sessions for each of the subjects on the basis of 1 session a week and 1 or 1 and a half hours per session. The findings of this study showed that the subjects were having different self-images that could be largely classified into five categories, 'father who can't do for family as much as he wants', 'father who has not yet been successful', 'father who feels lonely under his own duty and responsibility, 'father who sacrifices himself for family' and 'father who is different from fathers of the past'. Based on the analysis and discussions of these findings, this study suggested how fathers having younger children should do to have a better image about themselves.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify latent profiles of multicultural adolescents' psychological outcomes (school participation, self-esteem, and difficulty related to multicultural identity) depending on their perception of the parent-child relationship. A total of 5,540 samples from the Multicultural Adolescents Panel Study (MAPS) conducted by the National Youth Policy Institute in 2018 were analyzed by using Latent Profile Analysis and one-way ANOVA. The best-fitting model identified five groups according to their perception of the parent-child relationship: (1) father low-mother average (6.5%), (2) father average-mother low (2%), (3) father low-mother low (18.6%), (4) father average-mother average (31.2%), and (5) father high-mother high (41.7%). According to the results of one-way ANOVA, the father high-mother high (41.7%) group of adolescents showed more school participants and higher self-esteem and multicultural identity than the other profiled groups. The father average-mother average (31.2%) group of adolescents also scored higher than the other three groups (father low-mother average (6.5%), father average-mother low (2%), and father low-mother low (18.6%) of adolescents). The results of this study imply that improving multicultural adolescents' perception of their parent-child relationships would be important in improving psychological outcomes.

  • Yu-hua's disharmony with his personal and inner 'father' in his first-half novel expanded to expose the absence of the role of the social and national 'father' in the latter half. Yu-hua's novels revealed his personal sense of resistance through the absence of his father, and then expanded the negative "father image" in this family to the state and society to shed light on the absence and irresponsibility of the "father" in Chinese society and the state. I think that reading Yu-hua's novels in this way in the future will make it easier to understand the theme of these novels, and also to recognize the time value of these novels.

  • This study aimed to explore the meanings of fathers' experiences as they participated in educational programs for fathers. In-depth interviews with 3 fathers with children attending elementary school and middle school were implemented to examine their participation experiences in educational programs for fathers and their expectations for educational programs for fathers. The findings of this study showed that fathers wanted opportunities to carry out more active roles with their children instead of passive father roles. They learned interaction with their children and wives through participating in educational programs. The education programs impart a broader perspective and knowledge of father roles, and participation may encourage improvement of their relationships with their children and wives. They felt the importance of father roles in educational programs, which helps a father be a good father. But, they complained about harsh circumstances to participate in educational programs. So educational programs for fathers should be provided to all fathers that are geared to the level and need of each father. Further studies for more revelatory documentation were also suggested.

  • In this paper, I examine the impacts of father's education, a proxy for family wealth and income, on the individual's education, occupational choice and labor force status. I find that father's education influences the level of individual educational investment and occupational choices directly, whose findings are quite different from those of Blau and Duncan(l967) and Phang and Kim(2000). I also find that father's higher level of education induces an individual to withdraw from the labor force, which results in erosion of inequality among family. Therefore I argue that the inheritance of inequality in family wealth tends to persist, while the erosion of inequality proceeds, as well.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze parental gatekeeping dimensions(control, encouragement, discouragement) and types of gatekeeping in the two families featured in the drama 「SKY Castle」. Of the 8 types of gatekeeping, the traditional gate blocker(high control, low encouragement, and high discouragement) most often described in the drama, creates a difficult situation for a father trying to participate in child rearing. But traditional gate blockers do not always unnecessarily limit father involvement. In father's coerecive and dictatorial environment, traditional maternal gatekeeping strategies protect her children and create secure environment. The facilitative gate openers(high control, high encouragement, and low discouragement) is the functional gatekeeping type. Because the mother's highly controlling and highly encouraging ways serve as a positive coparenting strategy, the facilitative gate maintain a high level of authority over the amount and type of father involvement.
