Two investigations were carried out to understand the relationship between self-enhancement bias and psychological adjustment. In study 1, a scale for measuring the self-enhancement bias was constructed and the relationship between self-enhancement bias and psychological adjustment was examined in Korean college students. The relationship between two variables was significant in Korean college students. At study 2, college students and laborers in Korea and Germany participated to examine the relationship between two variables. It was significant both samples. This is very interesting result because it is reverse the existing outcomes that there are no self-enhancement bias and no relationship between self-enhancement and psychological adjustment in collective cultures. It is need to develop more refined measure tool and to do comparison with various cultures for more profound research on self-enhancement bias and cultural difference.
This study is to testify the differences between middle school students of normal and broken family and the effect of positive psychological capital on their school life adaptation. The main results are as follows. First, the middle school students of broken family showed lower level in self-efficacy, hope, resilience and optimism (positive psychological capital) than students of normal family. Second, the middle school students of broken family also showed lower level in school adaptation than students of normal family. Third, positive psychological capital was positively correlated with school adaptation in both groups of them. Fourth, self-efficacy, hope and optimism positively influenced school adaptation in students of normal family, only hope of positive psychological capital did it in students of broken family. It seemed that especially hope of positive psychological capital of broken family's students was very important and should be focused in planning and practicing interventions for them. The limitation and future tasks were discussed.
In some studies regarding acculturation strategies developed Berry(1997), not the preference for integration, but the preference for assimilation showed the best adjustment, which is different from the results of the majority of studies. For the reason of these results, we supposed that when the people of the host society expect the minority members to be assimilated to the host society and the minority members have very similar culture to the host society, the preference for assimilation in the minority members would show the best adjustment. And we tested this hypothesis with Korean-Chinese who had very similar culture to Korean culture and Han-Chinese who had very different culture from Korean culture. For two hundred and twenty five students(63 Korean-Chinese and 162 Han-Chinese), we asked them to complete a questionnaire including Acculturation Strategies Scale, Psychological Well-being Scale, and Depression Inventory. Data from the survey were analysed using two-way ANOVA. As a result, the interaction effect of acculturation strategies and ethnic types affected both of psychological well-being and depression. In details, for Korean-Chinese students, the preference for assimilation showed the highest levels of psychological well-being and the lowest levels of depression, but the preference for integration showed the lowest levels of psychological well-being and the highest levels of depression. For Han-Chinese students, the preference for integration showed the highest levels of psychological well-being and the lowest levels of depression, and the preference for marginalization showed the lowest levels of psychological well-being and the highest levels of depression. We discussed the meanings of the results, implications, and interventions to help Chinese students adjust Korean society.

The strongest predictor of college life adjustment was a self-efficacy. And sub-scales, the strongest predictor of academic activity was academic achievement, career preparation was self-efficacy, individual psychology and social experience was emotional intelligence, and Interpersonal relationship was psychological well-being. An intervention program which includes these significant variables of subjects is essential to improve of college life adjustment.

The major variables including hope, resilience, optimism, self-efficacy, academic adaptation, social adaptation, personal emotional adaptation, and university environment adaptation all showed significant positive correlations. Among the influential factors of positive psychological capital on college life adaptation, academic adaptation and social adaptation showed significant differences in optimism(p<.001) and self-efficacy(p<.001), while personal emotional adaptation and university environment adaptation showed significant differences in optimism(p<.001). Therefore, it is necessary to develop intervention programs that can improve positive psychological capital and apply them systematically to the educational field.

To achieve this research objective, a questionnaire survey was conducted targeting 127 middle-school adolescents from multicultural families in Busan city. As a result, the other-awareness in multicultural teenagers had a negative(-) influence upon the self-regulation and the psychosocial adjustment. The self-regulatory ability appeared to have a positive(+) impact on psychosocial adjustment. Also, in consequence of verifying the mediating effects of self-regulation in the relationship between other-awareness and psychosocial adjustment in multicultural adolescents, the self-regulatory ability was shown to have a partial mediating effect. In light of this outcome, diverse programs for self-regulation need to be developed in order to enhance psychosocial adjustment in multicultural adolescents. The purpose of this study is to explore further understanding of variables, besides father's alcoholism, which relates to psychosocial adjustment among ADAF(adult daughters of alcoholic fathers). This study examines the relationship between father's alcoholism, family functioning, parental attachment and the psychosocial adjustment among the ADAF. From a larger sample of 463 female college students, 160 ADAF and a matched group of non-ADAF were identified to participate in the study. This survey was conducted in Seoul and Gyungi-do area. Participants completed self-report questionnaires, "The Korean Version of Children of Alcoholics Screening Test", "Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment", "Satisfaction With Life Scale", "Self-esteem", "Beck Depression Inventory" and "Family Environment Scale". Path analyses was used to test the research question. Findings indicated that father's alcoholism had no direct effect on both the psychosocial adjustment of the ADAF and the family functioning. But father's alcoholism was significantly related to parental attachment. Family functioning was significant predictor of attachment to parents as well as psychosocial adjustment. Finally family functioning is important cause for parental attachment and psychosocial adjustment, specifically self-esteem and life satisfaction outcomes only. Therefore parental attachment was function as a mediator in the relationship between family functioning and psychosocial adjustment. In conclusion, this study showed that father's alcoholism did not predict outcome. We need to reconsider the assumption that direct link exists between adult adjustment difficulties and the presence of father's alcoholism. Implications for clinical and theoretical work with ADAF are discussed.
Intimate friendships and a sense of belonging have positive effects on adolescent's psychological adaptation. Belongingness orientation is the motivation to belong. It is divided into growth orientation and deficit-reduction orientation, both of which have different effects on psychological adaptation and interpersonal characteristics. This study was conducted to determine how adolescents' belongingness orientation affected their psychological adaptation and friend networks. Students in their second year of middle school were surveyed both at the beginning and end of the spring semester. Friend networks were measured through network centrality analysis. Multilevel regression analysis produced three major results. The first major result was that the correlations between growth orientation and loneliness and between growth orientation and stress at the beginning of the spring semester was statistically significant even when friend network centrality was included in the analysis model, but the correlation between deficit-reduction orientation and loneliness and between deficit-reduction orientation and stress were not statistically significant. The second major result was that growth orientation significantly predicted friend network centrality at the end of the spring semester. This effect was significant even when friend network centrality at the beginning of the semester and psychological adaptation level at the end of the spring semester were added to the analysis model. The third major result was that the correlation between friend network centrality at the end of the semester and psychological adaptation level was statistically significant even when psychological adaptation levels at the beginning and the end of the semester were included in the analysis model. This study is meaningful in that it had a short-term longitudinal design and empirically demonstrated the relationship between belongingness orientation and psychological adaptation level of adolescents and between belongingness orientation and the development of friend networks. Lastly, we discussed limitations of this study and provided suggestions for future research.
