  • A 6-month-old, castrated male, Korean short-haired cat was referred with intermittent hematuria. Physical and laboratory examination including complete blood count and serum biochemistry profiles showed no specific findings. Ultrasonography revealed a cystic lesion of the mid-abdomen, which was approximately $2{\times}2cm$ in size. FNA cytology of cystic fluid showed numerous cholesterol crystals of varying size and shape and granulomatous inflammation. CT examination showed fluid-filled large cystic lesion in the left side of the abdomen. Taken together, this case was diagnosed as unilateral (left) renal dysplasia and cystic inflammation led by cholesterol crystallization in the left kidney.

  • The tendency of students to become adults in the future to improve the country's public health policy and to determine the socio-economic development of the research is very important. The objectives of this study were to examine the changes in body weight, body mass index (BMI), body composition, and complete blood cell count in a group of male and female university students. Among the body compositions, height, weight, BMI, muscle volume, basal metabolic rate, red blood cells, hemoglobin, and hematocrit showed a correlation between the amount shown both had statistical significance (p<0.01). In particular, platelets showed a rather different result from fat and body fat percentage, and were positively correlated with waist-hip ratio points (p<0.01). This study may be useful as it provides the basic data necessary for students of healthcare. Therefore, developing a sustainable management system of healthcare on a national level for university students is very important.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to test the reliability of the Korean version of self-compassion scale (K-SCS). Methods: The total of 484 participants were included in this study. Reliability studies were conducted and internal consistency were examined. Results: The internal consistency of the K-SCS was 0.76, and test-retest reliability was 0.53. Conclusion: The K-SCS appeared to be a reliable instrument for assessing self-compassion in Korean population. If supplements further studies of the validity, this scale may be applicable in clinical trials, research, clinical practice.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine personality traits associated with suicidal symptoms (with history of suicide attempt or suicidal idea) in depressed patients. Methods : A sample 186 patients diagnosed with major depressive disorder was divided into two groups : suicidal group (with history of suicide attempt or suicidal idea, n=70) and non-suicidal group (without history of suicide attempt or suicidal idea, n=116). NEO Personality Assessment System were used to evaluate personality trait. Results : Neuroticism was high in suicidal group (p=0.041). In multivariate logistic regression, Neuroticism was also a significant influence on suicidal symptoms (Odds Ratio=1.04, 95% Confidence Interval 1.01-1.07, p=0.0145). Conclusions : High Neuroticism is a useful information to identify individuals at high risk of suicide in depressive patients.

  • A 9-month-old intact male Persian cat (3.2 kg of body weight) was referred with primary complaint of constipation. Diagnostic studies found severe constipation and megacolon. After immediate medical treatment (e.g. enema), the physical examination was performed and revealed that the unusual urethral opening was found approximately 0.5 cm ventral to the tip of the penis where a 3.5 fr tomcat catheter was easily advanced into the bladder. The case was diagnosed as hypospadias. The cat was treated with castration and medical therapy for constipation. To our best knowledge, this case is the first case report for feline hypospadias complicated with chronic constipation in Korea.

  • This study conducted the following experiment to examine change of physicopsychological function on lumbar stabilization exercise(LSE) and virtual reality game training(Nintendo Wii Sport-NWS) to stroke patients subject for fall prevention. Psychological function was measured by falls efficacy with stroke patients and physical function was measured by static and dynamic balance on comparative analysis of pre, post exercise and each groups in 30 stroke patient subject. Static balance was measured by BBS, FRT, dynamic were measured by TUG, 10m walking test and falls efficacy with stroke patients was measured index of falls efficacy. These result lead us to the conclusion that each group were statistically improved at all physicopsychological test, but BBS, FRT, 10m walking test were more statistically improved at LSE group and falls efficacy with stroke patients were more improved at virtual reality game training group. Consequently, virtual reality game training would be lead to positive increment of physicopsychological function on stroke patient.

  • To evaluate the simplicity and efficacy of the 7-symptom screen test for somatization disorder, the authors tried 7-symptom screen test to find out the easiness in diagnosing the somatization disorder and to evaluate the simplicity and efficacy of it from Mar 1991 to Feb 1992. The objects were 135 female outpatients who visited Department of Psychiatry, College of Medicine, Yeungnam University. The results were as follows : The discriminant index was over 3.0 for all 7 symptoms and two item accuracy was 89%(sensivity 99%, specificity 77%), three item accuracy was 87%(sensitivity 83%, specificity 90%). In discriminant analysis, the cut off score for the criteria of somatization disorder was 87% when three or more symptoms were checked for 7-symptoms. This result means that 7-symptom screen test is the simple and accurate method for screening and diagnosing the somatization disorder.

  • Obecity in pregnancy causes many problems and increases risk of pregnancy complications at the time of childbirth. But there is a lack of comprehensive analysis of factors that are negatively affected during pregnancy. Therefore, this study is intended to analyze seven factors of high-risk maternal diseases by the degree of obesity using body mass index(BMI). We conducted a cross tabulation analysis and regression analysis to analisized relationship between variables : Gestational Hypertension(GH), Gestational Diabetes Mellitus(GDM), Thyroid Stimulation Hormone(TSH), Age, Blood Urea Nitrogen Test(BUN), Total-Cholesterol(T-C), and newborn's weight. As a result, the more the obesity level of mothers increases, the more the proportion of mothers with GH, GDM, TSH increases. And there was a positive relationship between the BMI of mothers and their age, T-C, and Newborn weight, and a negative relationship to the BUN.

  • The authors investigated the relationship between the response to the external stimulation and ability of verbal behavior in the patients with somatoform disorder who have pain. The subjects consisted of 34 patients(male 10, female 24) and 37 normal controls(male 19, female 18). Pressure pain thesholds were measured by algometer and alexithymia was assessed by Toronto Alexithymia Scale(TAS). Somatization Scale of SCL-90R and Parental Bonding Instrument were also used. It was shown that 82.4% of the patients had chronic somatic complaints. The mean values of TAS, degree of somatic symptoms and pressure pain thresholds were significantly higher in the patient group than in the normal controls. 44.1% of the patients was considered alexithymia group and there was no correlation between scores of alexithymia and value of pressure pain thresholds. In conclusion, the patients with somatoform disorder who had pain were dull in pain perception to external physical stimulation. This result suggested that their low perception of pain could be closely related with chronicity of illness. And the Poverty of verbal expression of inner emotion was suggested to be one of the factors affecting somatization and difficulty in psychotherapy.
