  • This is a cross-sectional study to evaluate the relationships between physical fitness, leisure time physical activity, and serum lipid levels in middle-aged male workers. Physical fitness was measured by a step test score, and leisure time physical activity was self-reported on a questionnaire. Serum total cholesterol was negatively related to physical fitness(r=-0.27), and positively to obesity index(r=0.27). But leisure time physical activity was related to total cholesterol negatively(r=-0.20) only in subjects whose total cholesterol levels were above 170mg/dl. High density lipoprotein(HDL) cholesterol was positively related to physical fitness(r=0.15), negatively to obestiy index(r=-0.22), and positively to weekly alcohol consumption(r=0.14). Total cholesterol/HDL cholesterol ratio was related to physical fitness(r=-0.23), obesity index(r=0.32), total cigarette index (r=0.13), weekly alcohol consumption(r=-0.13), and vegetable preference(r=0.13). Physical fitness was also related to leisure time physical activity(r=0.19) and obesity index(r=-0.18). In multiple linear regression models, physical fitness(beta=-0.23) and obesity index(beta=0.18) were significantly associated with total cholesterol, obesity index(beta=-0.25) with HDLcholesterol, and obesity index(beta=0.30), physical fitness(beta=-0.16) and vegetable preference (beta=0.14) with total cholesterol/HDL cholesterol ratio. In conclusion, as physical fitness has a stronger relationship with serum lipid levels than leisure time physical activity, and the association between physical fitness and leisure time physical activity is modest, physical fitness should be added as an important variable in addition to activity in future epidemiologic studies.

  • Purpose: This study was done to identify correlates and variables predicting daily activity among elders with Diabetes Mellitus (DM). Methods: Seventy-six elders registered in the Department of Endocrine Medicine at C university hospital participated in data collection. Data on daily activity and biochemical variables were collected via actigraph accelerator (Actical) and blood tests between September 2009 and July 2010. Data analysis was done using SPSS WIN 15.0 program and included one-way ANOVA, independent t-test, Pearson correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: This study showed a positive correlation between daily activity and High Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol (HDL-C) and a negative correlation among Total Cholesterol (TC), Triglyceride (TG), and Low Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol (LDL-C). The variables predicting daily activity were frequency of exercise, HDL-C, and TC. These factors accounted for 40.0% of the variance of daily activity in elders with DM. Conclusion: The results indicate that it is necessary to improve daily activity to reduce Fasting Blood Glucose (FBG), TC, and TG in elders with DM.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationships between physical activity, health status, and quality of life (QOL) of University students. Methods: The research design was based on a descriptive research design model. This study sample consisted of 183 K University students in D city. Data was collected from December 2012 to January 2013 and analyzed with descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, analysis of variance (ANOVA), t-test, and Pearson's correlation analysis) using SPSS 19.0. Subjects completed questionnaires on their demographics, physical activity, health status, and QOL. Results: The overall physical activity of participants was $2529.40{\pm}5057.896$ min/week on average. The average health status was $28.66{\pm}6.3$ and the average physical health and mental health were $16.45{\pm}3.955$ and $12.31{\pm}3.446$, respectively. The overall degree of QOL was $3.429{\pm}0.379$. A positive relationship existed between moderate and vigorous activity and health status. In addition, QOL positively correlated with physical health (under health status). However, physical activity was not related with both mental health (under health status) and QOL. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, health educational programs are needed to promote sufficient physical activity in university students.

  • The purpose of thesis was to examine an effect of physical activities with peer competence for children. In this study, 44 children in the age of 5 in 2nd Kindergarten located in K city, Chungnam. The subjects were 22 children(11 boys and 10 girls) in A Kindergarten are selected in order to conduct physical activities based on cooperation and 22 children(10 boys and 11 girls) in B Kindergarten as a comparison group to implement individual-oriented physical activities. We applied the program in the total of 20 times at 30 minutes each time, and 2 times in each session for a total of 10 weeks. For peer competence tests, a measure for peer competence is used, which is developed for children. The results are as followed. firstly, the physical activity programs developed in the study on peer competence of five-year old children. secondly, Secondly, the activities improved every sub-factors of the peer competence such as sociability, pro-sociability, proactive. In addition, the study suggests a theoretical basis that can be used as practical measures of physical activity in the children. In addition, the physical activities in peer competence could build good inter-personal relationship through active interaction among the infants and lead positive impact on the development of their sociality.

  • This study was a secondary analysis research using data from the Seventh Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES VII-2), 2017 to identify the relationships between obesity and physical activities and prevalence of osteoarthritis in menopause women. The subjects were 1,516 menopause women aged over 19 years who participated in the KNHANES VII-2, 2017. Data were downloaded from the KNHANES website and analysed through complex sampling design data analysis using IBM SPSS 21.0 program. Prevalence of osteoarthritis is 1.88 times higher in women with body mass index (BMI) above pre-obesity and non-abdominal obesity and 1.98 times higher in women with BMI above pre-obesity and abdominal obesity than in women with BMI normal or low weight and non-abdominal obesity. These results indicate that obesity prevention and management should be provided to prevention of osteoarthritis for menopause women and obesity should be considered body mass index and abdominal obesity.
