Analysis of Teachers' Perceptions to Establish the Management Direction of Outdoor Space in an Elementary School (초등학교 외부공간 관리방향 설정을 위한 교사의 인식 분석)

  • This study analyzed the perceptions of teachers to establish the direction for managing the space outside an elementary school. Satisfaction with outdoor school spaces is influenced by the satisfaction with tree and flower plantation and outdoor rest spaces. This study found that the longer the working years of a teacher, the higher their awareness of the importance and necessity of outdoor spaces in the school. Respondents emphasized the lack of manpower and budget, as well as the indifference of the administration as hindrances to the management of outdoor spaces in the school. The outdoor space in the school should include a secure play area, plant education space, class practice spaces, and a rest area. Furthermore, the space outside the elementary school should support learning, playing, and resting. To this end, facilities such as benches, pergolas, outdoor classrooms, ecological ponds, farms, and flower beds should be provided. In an outdoor space, plants featured in textbooks, seasonal plants, and those that provide shade can be planted along with labels to provide information and thereby promote learning. The teachers expected that the management of the external space will have an educational and emotional effect on students. In response to the innovation of the school spaces, it is necessary to continuously manage the external spaces to achieve educational and emotional effects by organically connecting the outdoor spaces with the indoor space. For this purpose, it is required to provide support for securing budgets and manpower, and to introduce relevant policies.

Research of Recognition on the Horticultural Activities of Middle School Students in Ansan, Korea. (안산지역 중학생들의 원예활동 조사)

  • The current study was based on a survey of 429 middle school students (202 male and 227 female students) who lived in Ansan City. Most students (74%) had an experience in horticultural activities during or after elementary school years (male 43%, female 41%). Middle school students answered that they most frequently learned about growing up vegetables and plants among horticultural activities (male 73%, female 79%) and they thought horticultural activities are very important for education purpose such as environmental education. The most preferred horticultural activities program was utilizing vegetables and plants of which students generally had no experiences. That male students (46%) answered that the most interested aspect of horticultural activities in growth process of vegetables and plants while female answered (36%) the importance of plant life. However the most unfavorite aspect of horticultural activities was the time-consuming as a 58%, and then boring (33%).

Distribution of Invasive Alien Species in Korean Croplands (농경지 내 생태계교란식물의 분포)

  • Invasive alien species (IAS) can affect agricultural ecosystem negatively and critically. The geographical distributions of nine IAS plants in Korean orchards and uplands were investigated. Ambrosia artemisiifolia distributed widely in Korean peninsula and Ambrosia trifida distributed intensively in Gyeonggi-do. Aster pilosus distributed in Gyeonggi-Gangwon region and Lactuca scariola distributed linear region from the north-western to south-eastern part of Korea. Hypochaeris radicata distributed mainly in Jeju-do and Solanum carolinense distributed in eastern Gyeonggi-do. Rumex acetosella and Sicyos angulatus sporadically occurred in Korean croplands and Eupatorium rugosum was found in one region only. The distribution of IAS plants in croplands was very similar to that in non-croplands suggesting that ecological position of arable lands is not different from that of non-arable lands. Therefore, IAS plants in the croplands should be managed for not only prevention of yield reduction, but also protection or maintenance of original ecosystem. Development of management methods apposite to current Korean status are required to control IAS plants in croplands.

A Systematic Study on Polygonum sect. Tovara (Polgonaceae) : Analysis of Morphological Variation (여뀌속 Tovara절 식물의 분류학적 연구 : 형태변이 분석)

  • 여뀌속 Tovara절 식물은 매우 복잡한 양상의 형태변이를 나타내기 때문에 각 분류군의 한계 및 위치 성정, 계통적 유연관계 해석에 있어 많은 혼란이 나타나고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 본 절 분류군에서 나타나는 형태 변이의 양상을 수리분류학적으로 분석하여, 각 분류군의 한계를 명확히 설정하고 그 분류학적 타당성을 검토하고자 하였다. 본 절 분류군의 주요 식별형질에 대한 주성분 분석을 수행한 결과, 본 절은 형태적으로 크게 P. virginianum, P. filiforme, P. neofiliforme의 3분류군으로 구분되며, 이들은 주로 잎의 형태에 의해 식별되는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 또한 P. virginianum var. glaberrimum은 그 분류학적 타당성이 없는 것으로 나타났으며, Tovara (=Polygonum) virginiana var. kachina는 형태적으로 볼 때 P. neofiliforme의 변종으로 취급하는 것이 타당한 것으로 판명되었다. Polygonum virginianum, P. filiforme, P. neofiliforme는 그 flavonoid 조성에 있어서도 명확한 차이를 나타내며, 이러한 결과를 종합해 볼 때 이들은 각각 독립된 종으로 인식하는 것이 타당한 것으로 판단된다.

Analysis of Plant-related Learning Materials in Textbooks of Elementary and Secondary Schools II- Focus on Other Subject Matters Except Biology - (초.중등학교 교과서에 나타난 식물 학습 소재 분석 II- 생물영역 이외의 타 교과 중심으로 -)

  • The trends of plant-related teaching and learning of elementary and secondary schools were presented in this paper. The textbooks of other subject matters except biology were analyzed for their plant-related learning contents. It was suggested that interconnection exists between biology and other subjects in the relations with plant-related learning materials. A total of 331 books were analyzed from 143 elementary schools, 117 middle schools and 71 high schools. 1. Among the learning materials, 264 species of plant were presented in elementary schools textbooks, 295 in middle schools, and 283 in high schools. Other subjcets had more various plants than biology. 2. Korean language, social study and home ecology had more plant materials than other subjects with not only simple citation but scientific concepts and inquiry activities. As this plant-related materials is considerable for school education and science curriculum. 3. The available plants in daily life - resource plants, edible plants, demonstration plants and engineering-related plants - were cited in other subjects. Interconnection of plant-related materials with biology and other subjects will provide basis of STS education and subject integration.

A Study on Cultural Interpretation of the Plants in "The Book of Songs" - Based on Symbolic Elements and Landscape Elements - (시경(詩經)에 나타난 식물 소재의 문화적 해석 - 상징요소와 경관조성요소의 관점에서 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to sort out the plants in "The Book of Songs", and to analyze the cultural significance of plants from the viewpoint of the symbolic elements and the landscape elements in the 3~11 century BC. The conclusions are as follows. First, there were 147 plant names and 136 plant species in "The Book of Songs", and these results can confirm that the plants were existed in the 3~11 century BC. Second, through analyzing the cultural significance of the plants, cattail, lotus, etc. are the symbol of lovers; peony and willow are the symbol of farewell; bamboo is the symbol of gentleman; and Japanese pepper is the symbol of fecundity. Third, at the viewpoint of the landscape elements, the poplar, dwarf elm, etc. can be used as a place of affection; reed and nepenthe can make a place of melancholy, hazel and chestnut tree, etc. can make a place of power and position, celery and water shield etc. can be used as a place of knowledge. Based on the research of "The Book of Songs", it can help to understand the plants culture in 3~11 century BC, and it will be a useful information for the plant design.

A Study on Utility and Appreciation of the Plants in "Poetry of the South" - Focusing on Qu-Yuan's Poetry - (초사(楚辭)에 나타난 식물 소재의 활용 및 향유 방식 - 굴원(屈原)의 시문을 중심으로 -)

  • This study aims to sort out the plants in "Poetry of the South" what is in the written by Qu Yuan in the Kingdom of Chu and to analyze the utility and appreciation of plants. The conclusions are as follows. First, there were 80 plant names and 56 plant species were sorted out, and these results can confirm that the plants were existed in the 340-277 BC. Second, through analyzing the utility of the plants, herba lycopi, basil etc. as the garden plants; lotus, chrysanthemum etc. as the ornamental plants; galangal and cannabis sativa as the present; basil, musa basjoo, etc. as the sacrifice plants. Third, through analyzing the appreciation of the plants, golden birch, chrysanthemum etc. for gustatory appreciation; herba lycopi and pine tree etc. for tactile appreciation; bamboo for sensory appreciation. Forth, through analyzing the token of the plants, calamus and basil etc. are the symbol of personal character noble; wormwood and caltrop etc. are the symbol of villain. Based on the research of "Poetry of the South", it can help to understand the plants culture in 340-277 BC, and it will be a useful information for the plant design.

"Globalization of Omega-3 Perilla Oil" as a new green growth plant (신녹색 성장식물 "오메가-3 들깨기름 세계화")

  • 들깨는 아직 식물학적으로 분류는 되어 잇지 않으나 일반 식물분류학상 꿀풀과(진형과(唇形科); Labiatae)에 속하는 1년생 초본으로 동부 아시아지역이 원산지로 한국, 일본, 중국 동북부 등의 저위도 지역에서 광지역성 작물로 생육온도가 $10{\sim}15^{\circ}C$ 사이에서는 광합성 속도가 거의 변화가 없고 $20^{\circ}C$에서 최대에 이르며 $25^{\circ}C$ 이상의 온도에서는 급격히 떨어지는 것으로 보고되어 있다. 들깨의 생육 적온은 $20^{\circ}C$ 전후로 벼, 옥수수 등 다른 여름작물에 비해 낮으며, 온도에 대한 반응은 매우 둔감한 반면, 광량에는 아주 민감하게 반응하는 기름작물이다. 우리나라의 농서에는 이조시대인 1429년 정초(鄭招)의 농사직설(農事直說)에서 들깨를 유마(油麻), 수임자(水荏子)로 기록한 이래 여러 문헌에 임(荏), 임자(荏子), 수임(水荏), 수소마(水蘇麻), 유마(油麻), 지마(脂麻) 등으로 불리워져 왔다. 예로부터 들깨는 쓰임새도 다양하여 식용기름, 등화용 이외에도 잎에서 나는 독특한 냄새를 가축들이 싫어하여 농작물을 보호하기 위한 목적으로 밭 둘레에 심거나 기상재해로 소득 작물 재배가 어려울 때 대파작물(代播作物)로 이용되어 왔다. 세계적으로 한국인만 식용으로 즐겨 사용하는 들깨가 근래에는 경제성장으로 국민 소비형태가 다양화되는 추세로 들깨를 종실뿐 아니라 신선 잎채소로 이용하는 양이 크게 증가하고 있으며 들깨기름에 들어있는 ${\alpha}$-리놀렌산이 오메가-3 지방산으로서 고혈압 등의 성인병 예방과 학습능력향상에 효과적이라는 사실이 밝혀짐에 따라 들깨를 이용한 오메가3 계란, 오메가3 두유 등 다양하게 건강식품으로 응용되고 최근 동물성 어류에서 추출하던 오메가-3 해양 오염. 프랑크톤의 먹이사슬 등의 환경문제로 들깨기름의 식물성 오메가-3로 대체하는 영향이 세계적으로 인식되기 시작하여 우리 한국 들깨의 우수성을 세계인들에게 널리 알리는데 노력하여야 하고 국내에서 농촌에 들깨 심기을 보다 확대하여 소득작물로 육성하여야 한다고 본다. 들깨는 식물 유지류 작물중 오메가-3가 가장 많은 60%이상의 함유량으로 기능성 건강 보조식품의 원료 및 사료로 이용되는 등 새로운 소득 작물로 자리 잡아가고 있다.

  • This study investigates the development of meat analogues using vegetable proteins. Over the years, the consumption of meat analogues has increased because of environmental and religious concerns. Vegetable protein sources, especially soy, wheat, and peanuts, are commonly used as meat analogues. However, the texture of vegetable proteins does not resemble that of traditional meat. Thus, a number of studies have been conducted to improve the texture of vegetable protein-based meat analogues. The interest and demand for meat analogues, especially for recently released vegetable protein-based meat analogues, is expected to increase in the near future.

  • 식물의 종류를 자동으로 인식하는 방법에 대한 연구는 그 필요성이 증가하고 있다. 본 연구는 한국의 산나물을 자동으로 인식하는 방법에 관한 것이다. 본 논문에서 제안하는 방법은 산나물의 잎을 대상으로 잎의 비율과 잎맥을 추출하여 히스토그램을 구하고, K-NN을 통해 학습하고 판단하는 시스템이다. 제안하는 시스템의 성능은 실험으로 증명하였으며, 어느 정도 의미 있는 결과를 얻을 수 있었다.
