Development of Vegetable Alternative Materials for Mink Oil (밍크 오일의 식물성 대체원료 개발)

  • This study focused on the development of a vegetable recombinated oil to mimic the animal-derived mink oil. Various vegetable oils and fatty acid substrates were mixed and an immobilized enzyme was utilized in the reaction to synthesize a plant-derived mink oil through deacidification and purification processes. The chemical composition and thermal properties of the recombined oil were confirmed using gas chromatography and differential scanning calorimetry. Our results show a high similarity between mink oil and our synthesized plant-derived mink oil, revealing the potential of utilizing vegetable alternatives for the substitution of animal raw materials, which have been gradually discontinued as cosmetic ingredients.

Inhibitory Effects of d-limonene Cleaning on the Formation of DNA Adducts in Skin and Lung of Mice Dermally Exposed to Used Gasoline Engine Oil (피부에 폭로된 폐가솔린엔진오일로 인한 표적장기의 DNA adducts 형성과 d-라이모닌 세척효과에 대한 평가)

  • 작업장에서 근로자들이 엔진오일 등 각종 오일에 피부가 폭로되었을 때 이것을 쉽게 세척하기 위하여 일반적으로 솔벤트를 사용한다. 그러나 솔벤트를 사용하면 피부를 건조하게 만들 뿐만 아니라 오일에 함유되어 있는 각종 성분들을 피부내에 흡수되는 것을 촉진시킬 수 있어서 이에대한 대처방법이 요구된다. 특히 폐가솔닐엔진오일데는 방향족탄화수소(PAHs)와 같은 물질이 함유되어 있어 체내에 흡수되면 발암물질로 대사되어 표적장기(피부와 폐조직)에서 DNA adducts를 높은 수준으로 형성한다고 알려져 있다. 본 연구에서는 식물기름에서 구할 수 있는 d-라이모닌(Limonene)를 세척제로 사용하여 폐가솔린엔진오일의 폭로로 인하여 형성되는 DNA adducts를 $^{32}P-postlabeling방법으로 분석함으로써 d-라이모닌의 세척효과를 평가하고자 하였다. HDC(ICR) Br 자성마우스의 견갑골 부위에 있는 털을 제거하고 그 부위에 폐가솔린엔진오일을 폭로시키고 1시간과 8시간이 지난 다음에 d-라이모닌으로 각각 세척을 하였다. 마지막 폭로를 마치고 24시간이 지난 다음에 실험동물을 희생시켜 표적장기(폭로된 피부와 폐)에서 시료를 채취하였다. 먼저 시료에서 DNA를 분리하여 가수분해한 다음에 $^{32}P-postlabeling하여 DNA adducts를 분리하였다. 폐가솔린엔진오일만 폭로시킨 그룹의 피부와 폐조직에 형성된 DNA adducts가 각각 30.3$\pm$3.7과 15.7$\pm$2.4로서 대조군(2.5$\pm$1.0과 1.4$\pm$0.4)에 비하여 통계적으로 유의하게 높았고 (p<0.01), 또한 폐조직에서 보다 피부조직에서 통계적으로 유의하게 높았다(p<0.01). 폐가솔린엔진오일을 폭로시킨 후에 d-라이모닌으로 세척한 그룹에서는 피부와 폐조직에 형성된 DNA adducts가 통계적으로 유의하게 감소하였는데(p<0.01), 8시간 보다는 1시간이 지난 다음에 세척한 그룹에서 DNA adducts의 감소현상이 더 크게 나타났다. 결론적으로 피부에 폭로된 폐가솔린 엔진오일을 d-라이모닌으로 세척하면 폐가솔닐엔진오일내에 함유된 발암물질이 체내흡수되는 것이 억제되고, 피부와 폐조직 모두에서 DNA adducts의 형성을 감소시킬 수 있으며, 폐오일이 폭로된 후 빨리 세척하는 것이 더 효과적임을 증명하였다.

Evaluation of the Antioxidant Effects of Extracted Seed Oils by Pressure Method using Domestic Seeds and Nuts (국내 종실류를 이용한 압착 오일의 화장품 소재로서 항산화 활성 평가)

  • This study was performed to evaluate the antioxidant activity capacity of extracted seed oils by pressure method using domestic plant resources as a cosmetics material. Four type of oil were extracted from pumpkin seed, camellia seed, red pepper seed, peanut. The extracted seed oils were analyzed for fatty acid composition by GCMS, The antioxidant activity evaluated by DPPH radical scavenging activity, ABTS radical cation decolorization activity. Pumpkin seed oil(PSO), camellia seed oil(CSO), peanut oil(PO) showed higher ratio of unsaturated fatty acid than saturated fatty acid. After heat treatment, the content of unsaturated fatty acids was higher than that of saturated fatty acids except for red pepper seed oil(RSO). In the result of DPPH, ABTS antioxidant activity, RSO were the highest 87.84%, 76.72% at the $200{\mu}{\ell}/m{\ell}$, PSO, PO and CSO were the highest antioxidant activities at the $1000{\mu}{\ell}/m{\ell}$. Compared with the positive control olive oil, DPPH radical scavenging activity of RSO, PSO and PO showed higher than the control. ABTS radical cation decolorization activity of RSO and PSO is stronger than the control. After heat treatment, the antioxidant activity capacity showed a slight difference, four type of oils is expected as having potential to be useful as a cosmetic material.

A Study on the Volatile Change of Essential Oils Addition on to the Vegetable Fatty Acid Hard Soap (식물성 지방산 고형비누에 첨가된 에센셜오일의 휘발성 변화에 대한 연구)

  • In the saponification to manufacture plant fatty acid hard soap, the drying process is required for its water evaporation and hardness. This study mixed it with essential oil(E.O) with high volatility instead of adding synthetic flavor. And it comparatively observed the duration of flavor changing to the additive ($TiO_2$) and the drying period of the major flavor component (Linalool, Linalyl acetate) in the essential oil (Lavender E.O) contained in the soap during the soap manufacture by using GC-MS. Advanced researches have mostly dealt with the utility of plant hard soap, and those related with the volatility of flavor have been hardly conducted. Regarding the volatility of linalool contained in the soap, the soap mixed with $TiO_2$ showed a higher reduction ratio up to the 12th week; however, at the point of the 20th week, it reduced to a similar level. Although Linalyl acetate did indicate a slight difference according to the mixture of $TiO_2$, the volatility was shown similar up to the point of the 20th week. During the 20 weeks of drying, the residual rate of linalool was found to be higher than that of Linalyl acetate regardless of the mixture of $TiO_2$. It has been found that the flavor component of lavender essential oil with the duration of two or so days at the room temperature remains for 20 weeks (or 5 months) when it is manufactured through the mixture of plant fatty acid hard soap.

  • Essential oil is a volatile substance obtained by physically obtaining fragrant plant materials made by one single plant and plant species, and is widely used for cosmetics, fragrances, and aroma therapy due to its excellent preservation, sterilization, and antibacterial effects. When essential oil would undergo the extraction and concentration processes, the agricultural chemicals thereof would be extracted and concentrated only to be harmful to the human body. This study analyzes 320 residual agricultural chemicals concentrated in the essential oil, and to this end, LC-MS/MS and GC-MS/MS are used, while the freezing process is applied instead of the conventional refining process hexane, to improve the preprocessing method. As a result of analyzing the essential oil, such ingredients as chlorpyrifos, piperonyl butoxide and silafluofen have been detected in Basil oil and Clove leaf oil. Hence, it is perceived that the residual agricultural chemicals should continue to be monitored for the essential oil.

Screening Methods for Plant-Coating Materials and Transpiration Inhibitory Effect of Soybean Oil to Crops (식물 코팅 소재 선발법과 작물들에 대한 콩 오일의 증산 억제 효과)

  • Plants as well as crops are damaged by a combination of the hot and dry winds that has been a major factor in the reduction of crop production. A means to protect them from damaging conditions is to consider a coating material. In this study, we established laboratory screening methods to find a coating material to protect a crop from rapid transpiration caused by various factors. In a test measuring the weight loss of kidney bean seedlings for 6 days, Avion treatments decreased its weight loss (P=0.05). Owing to long-time spend in completing this assay, we performed a more simple method using a cobalt chloride paper strip, which changes from blue to red colors under water condition. Beewax, guagum, paraffin liquid, soybean oil, and PE-635 gave a waterproofing effect above 37 and 43% at 0.5 and 1 h after treatment, respectively. However, these tested materials did not show significant waterproofing results at 2 h. Although the methods produced reasonable results, a screening method to obtain more objective data is needed. An alternative is to use an instrument that can detect the transpiration of crop leaves. In a preliminary test using barley leaves, a portable photosynthesis system showed transpiration inhibition of 2% soybean oil and 10 times-diluted Avion under field conditions. In another test using the leaves of maize seedlings and apricot tree, 2% liquid paraffin and plant oils such as apricot oil, linseed oil, olive oil, and soybean oil showed significant transpiration inhibition (P=0.05). Especially, paraffin liquid and soybean oil selected from above tests gave good transpiration inhibitory effects against rice at 2%. In addition, the mixture of 2% soybean oil and a spreader showed more elevated inhibition results comparing with soybean oil or the spreader alone indicating that the spreader may be attributed to more uniform diffusion of the hydrophobic material onto the leaf surface of maize seedlings. The hydrophobic material coated physically the stomata and cuticle layers on leaf surfaces of rice. These hydrophobic materials screened in this study are expected to be used as plant coating materials.

Authentication of Hempseed Oil from Different Commercial Oils Using Simple UV-Vis Spectrophotomety (UV-Vis spectrophotometry법을 이용한 다양한 유지류로부터 헴프씨드 오일의 진위 판별법)

  • Hempseed, a dehulled Cannabis fructus, has high nutraceutical potential. It has plenty of essential amino acids, vitamins, and essential polyunsaturated fatty acids, including α- and γ-linolenic acid. Increased exercise capacity, cognitive function, and ameliorative effects against hypercholesterolemia, neuro-inflammation, thrombus formation, and learning and memory impairment were reported in hemp-seed oil-administered models. Therefore, the market prices of hempseed oil are 45~140-fold higher than the other plant-derived oils, such as soy, corn, olive, canola, or linseed oil. In this study, instead of FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy) or FTIR-Raman spectroscopy, a simple UV-Vis spectrophotometry method was developed to authenticate the hempseed oil. Measurements of absorbance at 245, 305, and 415 nm of oils and calculations of 245/415 and 315/415 nm provided that the ratios of 245/415 and 315/415 nm of authentic hempseed oils were 12.9 and 9.6, respectively. The 245/415 and 315/415 nm of soy oil, corn oil, canola oil, and linseed oil were 35.4~61.8 and 29.7~50.8, respectively. This simple UV-Vis spectrophotometry method could also be applied to differentiate hempseed oil from blended oil products in markets.

  • 1. 서론 : 본 연구에서는 한외여과막을 이용하여 대형건물에서 발생하는 오수, 동/식물성 오일과 계면활성제를 함유하는 ㅈ 중국식당 배수 및 자동차 세척 배수를 처리하였다. 대형건물 및 식당 배수에서는 한외여과막 투과수를 재사용하기 위하여 추가적인 공정이 요구되나 자동차 세차배수의 경우, 한외여과막으로 오일 성분만을 효과적으로 제거하고 유효성분인 세척제와 세척용수를 재활용할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

Control of Kimchi Fermentation by the Addition of Natural Antimicrobial Agents Originated from Plants (식물유래 천연항균물질 첨가에 의한 김치의 발효조절)

  • We investigated the delay of kimchi fermentation by the addition of plant extracts. Fifteen plant extracts were screened for inhibitory activity aginst Lactobacillus plantarum by using an agar well diffusion assay, and determined the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimal lethal concentration (MLC) were determined. The lowest MIC for grapefruit seed extract (GFSE; 0.0313 mg/mL) was determined, followed by Caesalpinia sappan L. extract (CSLE; 0.25 mg/mL), and oregano essential oil (OREO; 1.0 mg/mL). GFSE, CSLE, and OREO were individually added to kimchi, and incubated the samples at 10 for up to 20 days. Results showed that the addition of GFSE (0.3 and 0.5%), CSLE (0.1, 0.3, and 0.5%), or OREO (0.5 and 1.0%) led to a significant increase in the pH of kimchi, and also a significant reduction in the numbers of lactic acid bacteria. Taken together, the addition of natural antimicrobial agents can delay kimchi fermentation.
