Stability Assessment on Materials of Cultural Property by Fumigants Containing Ethylene Oxide (Ethylene oxide계 훈증 약제에 의한 문화재 재질의 안정성 연구)

  • This study was conducted focusing on the stability on materials of cultural property when the fumigant containing ethylene oxide was applied among some kinds of fumigant. Four kinds of specimens from paper, textile, metal and pigment were prepared to compare color difference, weight, surface condition before and after treatment and FT-IR analysis was carried out on specimens of paper and textile. In the case of fumigation treatment, it was conducted by two groups : one is made up of specimens with the non-fumigation as control groups, the other is made up of specimens treated with ethylene oxide + $HFC_{134a}$ and ethylene oxide + $CO_2$ as experimental groups. The result of color difference showed that there were color differences on the specimens of Hanji(Korean traditional paper), silver, cotton, ramie and yellow pigment. Especially, it was found out there was color change more than 6.0 on average from the silver specimen. However, in the silver specimen's case, color change in the non-fumigated specimen was relatively higher than those of fumigant-treated specimens, therefore, it is judged that fumigant doesn't have a decisive effect on color change in specimens, but required caution while fumigating. The result of weight measurement, there were totally 0~2% weight changes and the slightest change was found in the metal specimen, the biggest change in the papers. The result of microscopic observation on the surface of specimens showed color changes and especially, the biggest change on the silver specimen was observed. But no change in components was identified from FT-IR analysis of papers and textiles.

A study on the Factors Affected on the P- and S-wave Velocity Measurement of the Acrylic and Stainless Steel Core (아크릴 및 스테인리스강 시험편의 P-, S-파 속도 산출에 미친 영향 요인 고찰)

  • A total of 864 measurements for P- and S- wave velocity of acrylic and stainless steel core samples have been performed with respect to their lengths and axial load applied. S-wave velocity measurement was much harder than P-wave velocity, so that it showed higher deviation in measured S-wave velocity with respect to repeated measurement, length of the cores, and the axial load applied. Velocity measurements for acrylic cores showed more stable and less than half of the variation between the measurements than the stainless steel cores. This seems to be come from better coupling between the transducers and acrylic cores than stainless cores, and from larger value of the first arrival time in a similar system noise environments. From the analysis of the 864 measurements, it is recommended that the length of the core be 60 ~ 90 mm, axial load between 20 kg (27.7 $N/cm^2$) and 30 kg (41.6 $N/cm^2$) for measurement of wave velocity of the acrylic and stainless steel cores. Especially for measuring S-wave velocity of stainless steel core, core length should be less than 50 mm, otherwise it will be affected by mode conversion or others. These results can be used in measurement and correction for system delay in wave velocity measurement for rock cores.

Evaluation of Cutting Characteristics in Bulk Metallic Glasses (벌크비정질합금(BMG)의 절삭특성 평가)

  • In this study, the cutting characteristics of bulk metallic glass (BMG) cut using a computer numerically controlled (CNC) lathe were investigated for different insert tool materials and cutting speeds. The surface roughness, chip morphology, cutting forces, and tool wear during turning of $Zr_{50}Cu_{40}Al_{10}$ BMG alloy were examined. Four kinds of tool materials were used to cut an 8-mm-diameter BMG. The examination of the surface roughnesses of the BMG specimens machined at each cutting speed showed that the surface roughness became better as the cutting speed increased, and the tool materials also influenced the surface roughness. The chip morphology investigations showed that the unoxidized BMG chips had serrated curled chips with adiabatic shear bands, while the oxidized chips exhibited local melting and tangling rather than the usual spiral-shaped chips. The cutting force induced during machining of the Zr-based BMG was the largest for the TiN-WC tool, followed by the polycrystalline diamond (PCD) tool. The cermet tool exerted the smallest cutting force.

가전제품의 제조와 관련된 열공학 문제

  • 가전제품의 제조와 관련된 열공학문제를 몇가지 예를 들어 검토하여 보았다. 제품은 강도가 커야 하고 설계공차 내에 들어야 하는 등의 조건을 만족함과 아울러, 그의 생산공정은 가급적으로 쉬워야 하고 재료를 절감할 수 있어야 한다. 제조공정 중의 열공학적인 과정이 제품 구조내의 열응력분포를 결정지우므로 열전달과정의 세심한 제어가 필요하다. 근래에 들어 컴퓨터의 발달로 열전달과정의 수치해석이 제조장비의 설계와 제조과정의 최적제어의 보조수단으로 등장하고 있다. 실제의 문제에서는 대부분 삼차원형상을 가지고 있고, 시스템을 고려하여야 하므로 여러 가지 현상이 연계되어 있다. 그러므로 수치계산에는 여전히 종래의 실험기법에 의한 실험식들과 여러 가지 축적된 경험의 도움을 필요로 한다. 이러한 측면에서 볼 때, 종래의 실험식, 경험식, 물성치, 기존의 수치해석의 결과 등을 컴퓨터에 데이터베이스(data base)화하여 소위 전문가 시 스템(expert system)을 구축하는 편이 단순히 공정의 극히 일부분 현상들을 수치해석하는 작업 보다 선행되어야 함이 바람직할 수 있다. 또한, 가전제품의 제조에는 열공학 또는 열전달현상에만 따로 주의를 기울이지 말고, 재질의 선택, 그의 유변학(rheology), 구조내의 균열문제 등을 연계 하여 고려하여야 한다.

Generalized Method for Constructing Cutting Force Coefficients Database in End-milling (엔드밀링 가공에서 절삭력 계수 데이터베이스 구현을 위한 일반화된 방법론)

  • Productivity and machining performance can be improved by cutting analysis including cutting force prediction, surface error prediction and machining stability evaluation. In order to perform cutting analysis, cutting force coefficients database have to be constructed. Since cutting force coefficients are dependent on cutting condition in the existing research, a large number of calibration tests are needed to obtain cutting force coefficients, which makes it difficult to build the cutting force coefficients database. This paper proposes a generalized method for constructing the cutting force coefficients database us ins cutting-condition-independent coefficients. The tool geometry and workpiece material were considered as important components for database construction. Cutting force coefficients were calculated and analyzed for various helix and rake angles as well as for several workpiece. Furthermore, the variation of cutting force coefficients according to tool wear was analyzed. Tool wear was found to affect tool geometry, which results in the change of cutting force coefficients.

A Study on Suppression of UT Grain Noise Using SSP MPO Algorithms (SSP MPO 알고리즘을 이용한 초음파 결정립 잡음 억제에 관한 연구)

  • It is very important for ultrasonic test method to evaluate the integrity of the class I components in nuclear power plants. However, as the rltrasonic test is affected by internal structures and configurations of test materials, backscattering, that is, time invariant noise is generated in large grain size materials. Due to the above reason, the received signal results in low signal to noise(S/N) ratio. Split spectrum processing(SSP) technique is effective to suppress the grain noise. The conventional SSP technique. however, has been applied to unique algorithm. This paper shows that MPO(minimization and polarity threshold) algorithm which two algorithms are applied simulatancously, was utilized, the signal processing time was shorten by using the new constant-Q SSP with the FIR filter which frequency to bandwidth ratio is constant and the optimum parameters were analysed for the signal processing to longitudinal wave and shear wave with the same requirements of inspection on nuclear power plant site. Moreover, the new ultrasonic test instrument, the reference block of the same product form and material specification, stainless stell test specimens and copper test specimens block of the same fabricated for the application of new SSP technique. As the result of experimental test with new ultrasonic test instrument and test specimens, the signal to noise ratio was improved by appying the new SSP technique.

A Study on Material Development for and Application of a Slider of Pantograph (전동차 주습판(Pantograph Slider) 재질개선 및 실차 적용에 관한 연구)

  • A slider of the pantograph undergoes uneven and abnormal wear due to sliding contact with the catenary. In the case of rain, the loss of lubricant increases the frictional resistance for the reciprocating motion between the catenary and the slider, accelerating local wear. The slider in the winter should have good wear resistance, which can be achieved through alloy design. Uneven and abnormal wear were not observed in the results of a driving test using a wear resistant slider. It was found that the increased density of the slider enhanced the corrosive effects of Fe-Ti, preventing the occurrence of abnormal wear by maintaining the wear and arc resistance in the rainy season. Also, mechanical and electrical wear did not affect the composition of the slider, and this improved the wear resistance. Inaddition, the slider was applied to an entire train and was tested during driving; ananalysis of the correlation of the catenary was performed, including during the rainy season and the winter season.

  • 한국의 자동차산업은 생산능력이 경제단위로 들어서고, 수출을 통해 선진국 자동차산체와 세계시 장에서 경합을 하지 않으면 안 될 성년기에 접어들고 있다. 따라서 경험적 강화를 위해서는 생 산단위의 증가 뿐만 아니라 자체기술개발능력도 향상해야 한다. 기술개발의 첫째 화제가 현재 외국으로부터 기술도입한 제품의 자체개발이 대상으로 된다는 것은 재론의 여지가 없다. 그러나, 앞으로 제품개발을 해 나가는데 수반되는 기술개발을 효과적으로 하기 위해서는, 선진자동차산 업의 기술개발동향과 Marketing차원에서 시장변활를 연밀히 분석, 검토함으로써 기술개발과제를 중점적으로 선택하고, 연구설비투자와 연구인력을 성별투입해야 할 것이다. 이런 관점에서 최 근의 자동차기술 개발동향을 개관하고 1980년대 후반의 개발동향을 전망해 보고자 한다. 자동차 제품기술은, 첫재 석유와 원재로, 부품, 노동력의 가격상승과 둘재 환경, 안전도, 연비면의 규제 강화, 셋째 사용자의 편이 안락한 문전의 추구라고 하는 세가지 주요인의 이호연관에 의해 그 개발방향이 결정된다고 할 수 있다. 현재, 미,일 자동차업체는, 가솔린 및 디젤 왕복내연기관 의 기존 동력원과 FF, FR 및 4WD의 기존구동방식을 유지하면서, 엔진 등 주요기능부품의 최적 제어와 운전자의 편이성향상 및 운전정보 제공을 위한 전자기술의 적용, 경량재질 및 세라믹스 등의 신소재 적용, 실용화, 그리고 유가상승에 대비한 대체연료의 개발연구를 주개발과제로 삼고 있으며, 이 주세는 80년대 후반까지 지속될 것으로 보여진다.

The Status of Domestic Investment Casting Industry (국내 정밀주조공업의 현황)

  • 1991년 현재 우리나라에는 45개의 정밀주조공장이 있는 것으로 조사되었으나, 실제 가동중인업체는 31개사 정도였다. 이들의 90년도 총 생산량은 몰드수로는 79, 980mold로 총 6,108ton을 생산하였고, 여기에 종사하는 종업원수는 1,465명이었다. 업체의 지역별 분포를 보면, 경인, 경북, 경남의 대도시 권역을 중심으로 분포하고 있고, 특히 경인지방을 중심으로 한 수도권에 전체 업체의 58%가 분포되어 있다. 기업 연령은 10년 이상의 업체가 5개사 정도이고, 전체의 74%가 5년 이하로 기업역사가 일천한 편이다. 생산규모 면에서 월산 5,000mo1d 이상의 업체는 5개사 정도 있지만, 전체의 45% 정도는 2,000mo1d이하의 소규모 공장이다. 종업원 규모는 $20{\sim}50$인인 업체가 전체의 45%로 가장 많았으며, 50인 이하가 71%를 차지하고 있다. 생산 재질별로는 주강 및 특수강 제품이 주종을 이루며, 일부 업체가 알루미늄 및 동합금을 생산하고 있다. 금번조사에서 제품의 품목별 생산에 대한 통계는 수집되지 않았으나, 주종이 valve부품, 식품, 섬유기계, 일반기계, 컴퓨터 부품 등으로 저가 제품이 주종을 이루고 있다. 정밀주조업체는 금후 정밀주조분야의 시장증대에 대한 전망을 밝게 보고 있지만, 상당수의 공장이 현재의 당면 애로사항으로서 기능인력의 부족과 함께 생산량 확보를 거론하고 있다. 또한 수입 원 ${\cdot}$ 부자재의 공동구매에는 반대의 입장을 보이고 있는 점이 특이하다.

A Study on the Evaluation of Tension-Compression Fatigue Characteristics of Glass Fiber/Epoxy 4-Harness Satin Woven Laminate Composite for the Railway Bogie Application (철도차량 대차 적용 유리섬유/에폭시 4-매 주자직 적층 복합재의 인장-압축 피로특성 평가 연구)

  • This paper describes the evaluations of tension-compression fatigue characteristics and life for glass fiber/epoxy laminate composite applied to railway bogie to reduce weight. Test samples of tension-compression fatigue were composed of glass fiber/epoxy 4-harness woven laminate composites with different stacking sequence of warp-direction, fill-direction and ${\pm}45^{\circ}$-direction. The tension-compression fatigue test was conducted with stress ratio (R) of -1 and frequency of 5Hz. Goodman diagram were used to evaluate the fatigue characteristics and life of glass fiber/epoxy 4-harness satin woven laminate composite. Anti-buckling jig was designed to prevent buckling of specimen under compression load. The test results showed that the fatigue characteristics of glass fiber/epoxy 4-harness satin woven laminate composite with stacking sequence of warp-direction had a good performance in comparison with that of SM490 used to conventional metal railway bogie.
