Defects analysis of RE : YAG (RE = Nd3+, Er3+) single crystal synthesized by Czochralski method (Czochralski법으로 성장된 RE : YAG(RE = Nd3+, Er3+) 단결정의 결함분석)

  • RE : YAG ($RE=Nd^{3+}$, $Er^{3+}$) single crystals are laser diodes and generally grown by Czochralski method with controlling the various growth parameter. Since the defects occurred by temperature gradient or the rotation speed of solid-liquid growth interface act as the decline of crystal optical property during the growth procedure, crystalline quality improvement via defects analysis is necessary. The etch pit density (EPD) analysis was used to confirm the surface defect of grown RE : YAG single crystal and to select the area of transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis. Defects in the specimen produced by tripod polishing method such as buckling, rod shaped, bend contours by internal stress, segregation and others were observed by using 200 kV TEM and 300 kV FE-TEM.

  • In this study, vanadium dioxide ($VO_2$) powder well known as a thermochromic material was prepared from $V_2O_5$ powder and oxalic acid dihydrate by hydrothermal and calcination process at various conditions. The chemical bonding and crystal structures in addition to thermal property of samples were determined using FE-SEM, XRD, XPS, and DSC. Also, spectroscopic and thermochromic properties of film samples were analyzed by UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy after the thin film was prepared from the sol dispersed with the size of below 50 nm by the ball-milling of powder sample. With increasing the calcination temperature, the phase transition temperature of samples increased from $40^{\circ}C$ to $70^{\circ}C$ due to the increase of particle size.

  • As the ship hull is a compound-curved structure, plate bending process is indispensible. The process includes press bending process for forming major 1st curvature and heating process for forming the rest curvature. Especially the heating process that is above 50 percents of entire bending work is carried out exclusively by skillful workers. Many researches have been made to automate the heating process but most of these are about line heating process and researches for triangle heating process are rare. This study is a fundamental study to develop a efficient analysis method for triangle heating and focused on clarifying the deformation characteristics of plate by triangle heating. In this paper, we carried out heating experiments and analysed the deformation characteristics of plate to explain the deformation characteristics of plates rationally by showing the phase transformed high temperature region. Also we investigated the heating effect on the hull material properties by mechanical tests.

Setting Characteristic Assessment of Cementitious Materials using Electrical Impedance Spectroscopy (전기 임피던스 분광법을 이용한 시멘트계 재료의 응결 특성 평가)

  • In this study, the evolution of electrical impedance of electric nodes was investigated to determine the setting time of cement paste using the electrical impedance spectroscopy method. The electric nodes were embedded in fresh cement paste and the electrical impedance signatures were continuously monitored. Vicat needle test and semi-adiabatic calorimetry test were also conducted to validate the electrical impedance spectroscopy method. During hydration period of cement paste, the magnitude of conductance gradually increased, and then started to decrease rapidly at a first certain time. After that, the magnitude of conductance gradually decreased at a second certain time. The times of turning point in the curves of magnitude of conductance seem to be related with the setting time by Vicat needle test. Also, the setting times by the electrical impedance spectroscopy method are well posed within the setting period estimated by the semi-adiabatic calorimetry test. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the setting time of cement paste can be effectively monitored through the electrical impedance spectroscopy method.

  • 현재 압전재료로써 사용되고 있는 PZT계 세라믹스는 우수한 압전 및 유전특성으로 초음파 센서, 압전변압기, 액츄에이터, 필터, 레조네이터와 같은 여러 응용분야에 널리 사용되어지고 있다. 그러나 납을 60%이상 포함하므로 환경오염에 의하여 그 사용에 대한 규제가 강화되고 있어 최근에는 납을 함유하지 않은 무연 환경친화형 압전세라믹스가 주목받고 있다. 현재 무연 조성 세라믹스에는 텅스텐-브론즈 형, 비스머스 레이어형, 페로브스카이트 형 등이 이으며, 그 중 페로보스카이트 혈을 제외하고는 보통 소성법 조제시 낮은 압전특성을 갖는다. 그러므로 압전특성을 증가시키기 위하여 Hot pressing, Hot forging, RTGG(Reactive Template Grain Growth), SPS(Spark Plasma Sintering), 그러나 이는 무연 세라믹스의 대량생산 과정에서 어려운 문제를 가지고 있고, 저가격 관점에서 볼 때 보통소성법이 보다 바람직하다. 그래서 보통소성법으로 NKN세라믹스의 소결성을 향상 시키고 비교적 높은 압전특성을 얻기 위해서 $LiSbO_3$, $LiNbO_3$, $LiTaO_3$, alkaline-earth(Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba) 등을 첨가한 논문들이 보고되고 있으며, 이러한 재료들의 kp는 대략 0.3-0.4를 나타내고 있다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 소결온도를 낮추고자 $Ag_2O$를 소결조제로 사용하였고 유전 및 압전특성을 높이고자 소결시간 변화시켜 시편을 제작하여 NKN 세라믹스의 유전 및 압전특성을 조사하였다.

A study on the forming condition of a bone plate made of a glass/polypropylene composite (Twintex) (유리섬유/폴리프로필렌 복합재료 (Twintex)를 이용한 고정판 성형조건에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, tensile and bending tests of glass/polypropylene composite (Twintex) specimens fabricated by various forming conditions were carried out and the results were compared according to the forming conditions to find the appropriate condition for the forming composite bone plates. From the tests it was found that the most appropriate forming conditions were $230^{\circ}C$, 3MPa. Composite bone plates were formed using this condition by two different fabricating methods for screw holes: one was a net shape molding and the other was drilling. The forming and bending tests revealed that the drilling process provided much better bending stiffness of bone plates. This paper provided the most appropriate condition for forming composite bone plates and this result was also expected to offer informative data on forming of other Twintex structures.

  • 강유전성 세라믹스 재료로써는 PZT계열의 세라믹재료가 널리 쓰이고 있다. 이는 우수한 유전 및 압전특성을 가지고 있으나, PbO을 다량 함유하고 있어 $1000^{\circ}C$이상에서 PbO가 급격하게 휘발되는 성질에 따라서 조성의 변동이 생겨 재현성이 어려우며 이를 방지하기 위하여 과잉 PbO를 첨가시키기 때문에 PbO휘발로 인한 강한 독성이 인체에 유해하다. 최근에는 Pb의 환경문제가 대두됨에 따라 이를 대체할 다른 물질의 개발이 활발하게 연구되고 있다. 대표적인 비납계 강유전 세라믹스인 $(Na_{0.5}K_{0.5})NbO_3$ ($d_{33}$ = 120 pC/N, Kp = 39%, Qm = 210, 이하 NKN라 표기) 조성은 $KNbO_3,\;NaNbO_3$ 상태도에 따라 순수한 NKN 세라믹스는 $1140^{\circ}C$에서 안정상을 가지나, 높은 온도로 인하여$Na_2O$$K_2O$가 쉽게 휘발됨에 따라 화학량 비의 변화가 생겨 이차 상을 형성하기도 한다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 $LiNbO_3$의 새로운 고용체를 추가시켜 기본 NKN조성에 압전성 및 고온에서의 상안정성을 향상시키고자 하였다. 최적 조성을 설계하기 위하여 (1-x)$(Na_{0.5}K_{0.5})NbO_3-xLiNbO_3$, x=(0,0.02,0.04,0.06,0.08)의 범위에서 조성을 변화시키면서 실험하였다. 시편 제작은 일반적인 세라믹스 소결 공정을 적용하였는데, $850^{\circ}C$에서 5시간 하소 후 $1080^{\circ}C$에서 2시간 소결하였다. 하소 및 소결 후에는 XRD분석을 통해 perovskite구조를 확인하였고, 미세구조 확인을 위해 주사전자현미경 (SEM)으로 관찰하였다. 압전특성을 평가하기 위해 압전 $d_{33}$-meter를 사용하였으며, impedance analyzer (HP 4194A)를 이용하여 전기적 특성을 측정하였다.

A Study on the Performance of Friction Materials using Reduced Iron (환원분철을 이용한 마찰재의 성능에 관한 연구)

  • It was made a friction material of various kinds by adding 10%, 20% and 30% of reduced iron. It was obtained by a connected-reduced process in a blast furnace sludge and oxidized iron, instead of $BaSO_4$, which is already a used inorganic filling material among a component of a brake friction material. This was done by a basic physical property test, a friction performance test to use a brake dynamometer. Moreover, in case of an add in the friction material, instead of using $BaSO_4$, the more expensive filling material, the reduced iron was also better because it has an excellent a friction property of an exothermic temperature, wear, etc. was 10%. At G1 and G3 specimens, a shear strength and a bonding strength of the friction material was decreased to be able to increase an amount of the blast furnace sludge and the reduced iron, but an application of all friction materials appeared enough strength.

Measurement Method for Constituent Contents of Carbon Fiber/Epoxy Composites Using Thermogravimetric Analyzer (열중량분석기를 적용한 탄소섬유/에폭시 복합재의 구성재 함유율 측정 기법)

  • We propose a measurement method for evaluating constituent contents of carbon fiber/epoxy composites through a thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA). The sample used in the test was taken from a strand specimen made of carbon fiber/epoxy tow prepreg, and the change in weight of the sample over time was measured in real time. Using a field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM), we examine the thermal damage condition of the carbon fiber depending on whether resin was removed or not. We find that it was possible to test even a small amount of sample when using TGA vis-à-vis using a conventional muffle furnace. In addition, TGA enables the temperature and exposure time to be controlled, allowing the constituent contents of composite materials to be efficiently and quantitatively evaluated.

Dielectric and conductivity properties of defect double Perovskite La1/3TaO3 single crystal (결함 이중 Perovskite La1/3TaO3 단결정의 유전 및 전도특성)

  • After the specimen of A-site defect double Perovskite La1/3TaO3 single crystal was manufactured, the dielectric properties have been studied between the temperature range of 10 and 800 K. Under 500 K, a paraelectric behavior has been shown, and above 550 K, a dielectric anomaly and a thermal history of dielectric constant has been shown. An activation energy by measurement of ac-conductivity has been the largest with 1.83 eV in the areas below 560 K, 0.35 eV in the areas of 560~690 K, and 0.28 eV in the areas of high temperature above 690 K. From these results, it is assumed that in the areas below 500 K, La3+-ion and vacancy-site are arranged in disorder to maintain a paraelectric phase. And in the areas near 560 K with the highest activation energy, a dielectric anomaly is attributes to rearrangement of La3+-ion due to conduction to vacancy-site or jumping.
