Co-Validation Environment for Memory Card Compatibility Test (메모리 카드 호환성 테스트를 위한 통합 검증 환경)

  • As diverse memory cards based on NAND flash memory are getting popularity with consumer electronics such as digital camera, camcorder and MP3 player the compatibility problems between a newly developed memory card and existent host systems have become a main obstacle to time-to-market delivery of product. The common practice for memory card compatibility test is to use a real host system as a test bed. As an improved solution, an FPGA-based prototyping board can be used for emulating host systems. However, the above approaches require a long set-up time and have limitations in representing various host and device systems. In this paper, we propose a co-validation environment for compatibility test between memory card and host system using formal modeling based on Esterel language and co-simulation methodology. Finally, we demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed environment with a case study of real memory card development.

Place-shifting of TV Content by the Use of Slingbox and the Copyright (슬링박스를 이용한 TV프로그램의 장소이동 시청의 저작권법상의 성격)

  • This research examines the legal liability of place-shifting of TV contents by the use of the Slingbox. The place-shifting of TV contents is fair use because it is a non-commercial private use based on the relevant case law regarding time-shifting and device-shifting such as Sony, RIAA and Napster. But the sharing of place-shifting function is likely to be liable for copyright infringement. And place-shifting may not be fair use based on the cases which denied fair use of time-shifting and space-shifting because the consumers' convenience for the use of the copyrighted work is against the purpose of legislation of copyright law. Place-shifting is unlikely to have a significant effect on the potential market for TV contents because it presents lucrative new platforms to disseminate TV contents to computers and mobile devices. However it is likely to have negative effect because various devices can be the follow-up marketplaces of the copyright holders of TV contents. This study proposes the "innovative medium defense," a new doctrine to analyze liability of innovative media.

Performance Evaluation and Analysis of NVM Storage for Ultra-Light Internet of Things (초경량 사물인터넷을 위한 비휘발성램 스토리지 성능평가 및 분석)

  • With the rapid growth of semiconductor technologies, small-sized devices with powerful computing abilities are becoming a reality. As this environment has a limit on power supply, NVM storage that has a high density and low power consumption is preferred to HDD or SSD. However, legacy software layers optimized for HDDs should be revisited. Specifically, as storage performance approaches DRAM performance, existing I/O mechanisms and software configurations should be reassessed. This paper explores the challenges and implications of using NVM storage with a broad range of experiments. We measure the performance of a system with NVM storage emulated by DRAM with proper timing parameters and compare it with that of HDD storage environments under various configurations. Our experimental results show that even with storage as fast as DRAM, the performance gain is not large for read operations as current I/O mechanisms do a good job hiding the slow performance of HDD. To assess the potential benefit of fast storage media, we change various I/O configurations and perform experiments to quantify the effects of existing I/O mechanisms such as buffer caching, read-ahead, synchronous I/O, direct I/O, block I/O, and byte-addressable I/O on systems with NVM storage.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the current status and future prospects through the Classification of sports and ICT convergence technology for the health. Sports and ICT convergence technology could be classified into three types-sports and virtual reality, wearable devices, application and platforms. First, the application of virt ual reality technology gives a user the feeling of reality, fun, and flow through the sensing technology. And this was extended to 'Gamification' concept, gamification of the Nike Plus has become a catalyst in the spread of wea rable devices market. Second, the fastest growing sector in the wearable device area is the health and sports. Chin ese and start-up companies as well as global ICT companies is competing for expanding the pool by releasing the fitness-related wearable devices. Third, the building of platform that can utilize the health and exercise-related dat a collected through the application is expanding.

  • 현재 PCB (Printed circuit board) 산업은 디스플레이, 모바일 시장의 수요 증가로 인해 활성화 되면서 다앙한 분야로 확대 되어가고 있다. 전자기기의 직접화, 고속파, 사용 주파수 영역의 증가로 인해 수십 GHz 영역에서도 활용이 가능한 소재 및 기판의 필요성이 대두되어 지고 있어 이에 대응할 수 있는 소재 개발도 다양해지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 GHz 영역에서 인쇄회로기판의 회로형태가 특성에 미치는 영향에 대해 연구하였다. 이를위해 패턴도금법과 에칭법으로 회로를 형성하였다. 패턴도금법으로 형성된 시편은 무전해 구리도금 공정을 거친 후 감광성 필름을 이용하여 전해 도금방법을 패턴을 형성하여 회로를 구현하였고, 에칭 패턴 시편은 FR4를 이용하여 동박접합과 도금 공정 후 마스크 패턴을 사용하여 노광, 현상, 에칭 공정을 거쳐 회로를 구성하였다. GHz영역에서 Transmission Line 특성을 분석하였으며 구리 패턴과 절연체사이의 계면형태가 특성에 영향을 주는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • The Internet of Things era is approaching where all the things are equipped with smart sensors and communicate through internet. The three core technologies of the Internet of Things are 'detection technology' to get information from things and the environment, 'wired and wireless communications and network infrastructure skills' that support to connect things to the internet, and 'service interface technology' that processes the information appropriate to various services. Smart sensor application can expand to smartphone, smart cars, smart home systems, wearable electronic devices, telemedicine systems, and environmental monitoring systems, etc. In particular, technologies that mimic the five human senses. This study reviews the biological principles of the human senses and the principles of operation, research & development status, technology trends and market analysis of the sensors.

File Sharing System Between Heterogeneous System Using Mobile Server (모바일 서버를 이용한 이기종간의 파일 공유 시스템)

  • As the mobile device supply is increasing currently, the era of N mobile devices per person has opened. Types of mobile devices and OS are increasing continuously. Samsung and Intel are developing TIZEN, the OS mobilized by UBUNTU of Linux is going to be released as well as the market share of Google's Android and Apple's IOS remains above 90%. However, it is a reality that there are not specific technologies or systems which can share files between different OS. Despite of technologies such as Bluetooth and WiFi Direct, constraints are shown in device compatibility and file formats. In this paper, we have studied how to share files between OS as well as mobile devices, and to share files in a wireless LAN environment of heterogeneous variety. Future research includes the mobile phone integration server system that provides services such as introduction, management, maintenance, and repair in one-touch Mobile Server that spread and building are easy.

  • In case of implementing a complicated application like WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) in a mobile terminal with the characteristics of bare machine and versatile kernel aspects of which are control, interrupt and IPC(Inter Process Communication), a special methodology should be needed. If not, it will cause more cost and human resources, even delayed product into launching for the time-to-market. This paper suggests AKL, (Abstract Kernel Layer) for the design and implementation of WAP on basis of multi-platform. AKL is running on the various kernel including REX, MS-DOS, MS-Window, UNIX and LINUX. For the purpose of it, AKL makes machine-dependant features be minimized and supports a consistent interface on API (Application Program Interface) point of view. Therefore, it makes poring times of a device be shorten and makes easy of maintenance. We validated our suggestion as a consequent of porting WAP into PlamV PDA and mobile phone with AKL.

  • Recent advancement in RF technology and wireless communications has enabled the development of noble networks. Bluetooth that can be used in various application field is a kind of WPAN(Wireless Personal Area Network) standard that is widely known. Bluetooth enables voice and data applications to operate simultaneously. Various applications have been implemented based on standard Profiles. In this paper, we describes the development of Biuetooth network AP(Access Point) system for network connection of Bluetooth devices. Unlike headset, mouse, and keyboard, the access point should have capability to support multiple connection and stabilized network throughput. We have designed and developed the hardware system, core stack and profiles on embedded system to comply with standard specification. Our system showed compatibility and good protocol performance through testing with lots of products that is available in market.

  • Recent popularity of the smartphone market, with the explosive growth of mobile location-based SNS(Social Network Service), is into the mainstream. SNS aims to cooperate and share information with all users, but mobile SNS is still not easy people with disabilities. In addition to using the Web, it has difficulty to provide an appropriate interface to access such as smartphone for people with disabilities. This paper will specify and analyze the context-awareness technology and SNS function, and study a variety of information that students with disabilities such as time, location and activity states including data collection and analysis of the situation by converting the status information. It has provide that students with disabilities to lead comfortable life in school according to the various types of disabilities, and school information and safety services using mobile location-based SNS.
