An IPv6 based Fast Handover Deployment Scheme for WiBro Networks (광대역 무선 인터넷 망에서 IPv6 기반의 고속 핸드오버 도입을 위한 방안)

  • With the recent growth in demand for high-data rate multimedia services in the wireless environments, the Mobile Broadband Wireless Access (MBWA) technologies, such as WiBro (Wireless Broadband internet) system, are gradually coming into the spotlight. Unlike the conventional mobile communication networks based on cellular system, the WiBro system basically consists of IP based backbone networks that will be ultimately deployed by Ipv6 (IP version six) based backbone networks according to the All-IP trend for the network evolution. In such wireless mobile environments, it is needed to support the mobility management protocol on network layer as well as physical layer and Medium Access Control (MAC) layer in WiBro system. Accordingly, in this paper, we propose a fast handover scheme for improving the handover performance in IPv6 based WiBro system and show that the proposed scheme achieves loss-free and low handover latency during inter-subnet movement of the mobile stations through the simulation.

Handover Delay Stability Method for Train Control on LTE Railway System (LTE-R 시스템에서 열차제어를 위한 핸드오버 지연 안정화 방안)

  • In case that the train driving with diverse high-speeds is manipulates by real-time remote control in long-term evolution-railway (LTE-R) system with frequent handovers, the real-time safe transmission of train control messages is important element. The handover delay time stability method regardless of train speed in order to enhance the real-time remote train control stability in LTE-R system is proposed in the paper. Furthermore, the variable speeds and altitudes of train collected by real measurements are applied for upgrading simulation accuracy. The simulation results inform that not only there are stable and unstable ranges to A3 offset values, but the optimal offset value for average handover delay is in unstable range. However, the late handover with A3 offset values in stable range should be chosen to get the predictable handover delay regardless of train speed rather than the early handover with A3 offset values in unstable range, since the key value of high-speed Korea railway system is the stability.

Hard Handover Algorithm for Self Optimization in 3GPP LTE System (3GPP LTE 시스템에서 기지국 구성 자동 설정 동작을 위한 하드 핸드오버 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, we propose a hard handover algorithm for a base station's self-optimization, one of the automatic operational technologies for the 3GPP LTE systems. The proposed algorithm simultaneously considers a mixed target sell selection method for optimal selection and a multiple parameter based active hysteresis method with the received signal strength from adjacent cells and the cell load information of the candidate target cells from information exchanges between eNBs through X2 interface. The active hysteresis method chooses optimal handover hysteresis value considering the costs of the various environmental parameters effect to handover performance. The algorithm works on the optimal target cell and the hysteresis value selections for a base station's automatic operational optimization of the LTE system with the gathered informaton effects to the handover performance. The simulation results show distinguished handover performances in terms of the most important performance indexes of handover, handover failure rate and load balancing.

  • In hierarchical mobile IPv6 networks, when an inter-domain handover occurs, mobile nodes suffer from excessive signaling traffic and long handover latency, resulting in possible disruption of ongoing connections. Further, the selection of MAP and its load status critically affect the overall system performance. Therefore, we propose a dynamic MAP selection scheme that seeks to distribute load among MAPs as well as reduces inter-domain handovers. Performance is evaluated from not only an analytic model of average signaling cost but also simulation. The analytical and simulation results show that our proposed scheme improves load distributedness and reduces inter-domain handovers and signaling cost compared to another existing IETF based approach.

  • Fast 핸드오버는 단말이 기지국 간의 연결을 바꾸는 동안에 발생 하는 서비스 중단 시간을 줄이기 위해서 소개 되었다. 그러나, 새로운 Care of Address (CoA) 의 검증으로 인한 핸드오버 지연이나, 경로 최적화의 지연은 문제가 될 수 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위하여 향상된 Fast 핸드오버 방식을 소개 한다. 본 방식에서 단말은 이전 기지국과 연결 되어 있는 동안에 경로 최적화를 수행 하며, 새로운 CoA 의 검증을 필요로 하지 않는다.

  • In the heterogeneous system of various wired or wireless network with IP-based backbone, the continuities of agreedon QoS for multimedia services should be guaranteed regardless of network types and terminal mobility through seamless vertical handover. This paper proposes a QoS provisioning mechanism called D-ISHO which guarantees the continuities of agreed-on QoS and seamless for multimedia services by considering both such characteristics as delay, loss rate and jitter per each service and such status as available band-width, call arrival rate and data transmission rate during the vertical handover. Simulation is done for performance analysis with the measure of handover failure rate and packet loss rate.

  • LTE 시스템에서 이동성 관리란 단말의 아이들 상태에서 수행되는 셀 재선택 기능과 단말의 통신중에 수행되는 핸드오버 기능을 모두 포함한다. 특히, 핸드오버 기술은 '통신중 끊김없는 서비스 보장'이라는 단순 기술형태에서 UMTS, HSPA 및 CDMA2000-1X 등 서로 다른 네트워크간의 컨버전스를 통하여 효과적인 트래픽 로드 분산 사업자의 초기 시설투자 부담 감소, 그리고 가입자의 자유로운 네트워크 선택 및 이에 따른 저렴한 요금 혜택 등 사업자와 가입자 모두에게 새로운 비즈니스 모델을 제공하는 복합 기술 형태로 진화되고 있다. 본 고에서는 LTE/LTE-Advanced 시스템에서 무선링크 측정, 타깃 셀 결정, 패킷 손실 관리, 타깃 셀로의 통신로 스위칭 등 일련의 고속 제어절차를 통하여 packet lossless-, timeless- 및 seamless- connectivity가 기능하도록 설계된 핸드오버 기술 전반을 무선 액세스 네트워크 관점에서 다룬다. 본 고에 사용된 정보 소스는 3GPP LTE 표준 문서에 기반한다.

Efficient Packet Transmission Utilizing Vertical Handover in IoT Environment (IoT 환경에서 수직 핸드오버를 활용한 효율적인 패킷 전송)

  • The Internet of Things (IoT) has recently been showered with much attention worldwide. Various kinds of devices, communicating with each other in the IoT, demand multiple communication technologies to coexist. In this environment, mobile devices may utilize the vertical handover between different wireless radio interfaces such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, for efficient data transfer. In this paper, an IoT broker is implemented to support the vertical handover, which can also support and manage heterogeneous devices and communication interfaces. The handover is activated based on RSSI, Link Quality values, and real time traffic. The experimental results show that the proposed handover system substantially improves QoS in Bluetooth and reduces power consumption in mobile devices as compared with a system using only Wi-Fi.

  • 본 논문은 다양한 이종망간 유무선 네트워크 간의 효율적인 이동성 지원을 위해 필수적으로 요구되는 정보들의 위치정보를 검색하고 이를 통해 빠른 핸드오버를 수행할 수 있도록 하는 기술을 제안한다. 핸드오버에 필요한 정비의 위치검색을 위해 본 논문에서는 DHCP 기술을 확장하여 새로운 기술을 고안하였고 실제 동작을 확인하기 위해 리눅스 기반의 시스템을 통해 구현하였다.

  • 3GPP(3rd Generation Partnership Project)는 3세대 이동통신인 UMTS(Universal Mobile Telecommunication System)의 초기 표준화 이후 HSPA(High Speed Packet Access), MBMS(Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Service) 등의 기술 개발로 UMTS 시스템을 지속적으로 발전시켜 왔다. 그리고, 최근 새로운 무선 접속 기술에 기반한 LTE(Long Term Evolution)시스템에 대한 표준화를 거의 완료하고 ITU-R(International Telecommunications Union-Radio)의 IMT-Advanced 요구사항을 만족하는 LTE-Advanced 시스템에 대한 연구를 진행하고 있다. 한편 최근 다양한 무선 접속 기술간 핸드오버 기술이 중요한 이슈로 부각됨에 따라 LTE-Advanced에서도 이를 수용하기 위한 기술이 요구된다. 본 고에서는 3GPP에서 추진하고 있는 LTE-Advanced기술의 표준화 동향과 향후 이에 적용 가능한 다양한 무선 접속 기술간의 핸드오버 지원 기술을 살펴봄으로써 LTE-Advanced에서의 끊김없는 이동성(seamless mobility) 제공을 위한 근간을 제시하고자 한다.
