The Controversy on the Conceptual Foundation of Space-Time Geometry (시공간 기하학의 개념적 기초에 대한 논쟁)

  • According to historical commentators such as Newton and Einstein, bodily behaviors are causally explained by the geometrical structure of space-time whose existence analogous to that of material substance. This essay challenges this conventional wisdom of interpreting space-time geometry within both Newtonian and Einsteinian physics. By tracing recent historical studies on the interpretation of space-time geometry, I defends that space-time structure is a by-product of a more fundamental fact, the laws of motion. From this perspective, I will argue that the causal properties of space-time cannot provide an adequate account of the theory-change from Newtoninan to Einsteinian physics.

  • 국내의 비정형 건축물은 현재 도입기로, 동대문디자인파크, 전곡선사박물관, 부산국제영화센터 등이 건설 계획 되어지고 있지만 대부분이 실시설계 또는 착공단계에 머물고 있고, 아직까지 구체적인 시공단계에 이른 건축물이 없는 실정으로 비정형외장재의 이중곡률 (Non-Uniform Rational B-Spines)을 반영한 프로토타이핑(Prototyping), 패널화(Panelizing), 현장조립 시 기하학 통제기법, 시공오차 측정기법, As-Planned 도면과 As-Built 도면의 비교를 통한 준공도면의 작성기법 등에 대한 준비가 절실히 필요한 상황이다. 그러나 현재 비정형 건축물의 설계는 초기계획(Concept Design) 단계에서 건축가와 구조기술자의 협업 중요성만 강조되고 있고, 건축물이 비정형화됨에 따라 기하학적으로 설계 및 시공되어야 하는 건축물의 외장재에 대한 설계방법과 시공단계에서 시공품질 확보방안, 시공 하자를 유발시키는 다양한 변수에 대한 대응방안 등은 아직까지도 그 중요성을 인식하지 못하고 있는 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 비정형 건축물의 설계에 사용되는 Architectural Geometry Control 도구 중 그 활용성이 부각되어 지고 있는 Bentley 사의 Generative Components를 활용하여 비정형 건축물의 이중곡률 곡면외장재의 부재생산을 위한 패널화, 제작도면 추출에 관한 연구를 수행하고자 한다.

Analysis of Geometric Shape and Displacement in Coastal Structure (해안 구조물의 기하형상과 변위 해석)

  • This study is aimed to assess the stability of cable bridge by determining the geometric shape of the suspension bridge among the domestic coastal structures in public use after their completion of construction and the displacement of the target suspension bridge after public use. For this purpose, this study calculated the length between pylon piers for each period, sag, sag ratio and the displacement of pylon. Compared to the management standards for each step across different pylon behaviors of the target suspension bridge, this study found that the target suspension bridge behaves stably within the maintenance standards. To identify the behaviors of a suspension bridge accurately, the priority is put on the determination of geometric shape. Therefore, it is required to determine the surveyed shape model on a regular basis across public use period and increased traffics, which is expected to contribute considerably to ensuring the stability of the suspension bridge in its maintenance.

Geometrically Nonlinear Dynamic Analysis of Suspension Bridges Considering Construction Sequences (현수교의 기하학적 비선형을 고려한 동적 밀 시공단계별 해석)

  • Dynamic structural behavior in long span bridges, especially cable structures, is very sophisticated due to their flexibility and structural members are sequentially erected in each construction step. In this study, the consistent mass matrix for dynamic analysis is formulated and computational program considering construction sequences is developed where structural members can be builded or removed by command language and automatically reanalyzed in the moment when structural system is changed. The dynamic analysis, i.e. eigenvalue and time series analysis and the geometrically nonlinear analysis considering construction sequence are conducted to the Namhae Bridge. The analytical results are satisfactory compared with measuring values and the developed computational program can successfully be applied to design and safety check.

  • Recently, the government has improvement projects of dangerous road for the site that has very high accident rate due to bad geometric structures of the road. Although, route selecting of the road is a basic and important process, but the process of route selecting must consider the technical, safety and environment factor together. Also, the technology for the 3-dimensional terrain model can be used as an important factor in planning and designing for selecting alternative route projects. In the course of experimenting with the 3-dimensional topography generated by the combination of the digital map and drawing of route, the technology as been developed to offer the multi-dimensional access to the potential construction sites from the nearby main roads. This 3-dimensional digital elevation model has made it possible to make various terrain analysis base on GIS, which provides real-time virtual access to the designated construction sites for development planning and construction projects. Therefore, this study presents a reasonable plan for route selecting from some alternative routes through subjective evaluation and classify the methods linked basic design of road construction.

  • These days, the application range of digital photogrammetry is being extended actively, so the great variety of research is being progressed about improvement of measurement accuracy. This method can acquisite a high analysis accuracy and can acquisite easily image. But, So this method require a much processing time and effort by increasing a data amount, as the automation of processing must be completed for efficiency improvement of processing. In this study, the automation of image processing stage is established for multi-image aquisition and analysis about a radio telescope. Also, the precise measurement and the accuracy on object were intended to be improved. As a result of this study, the accuracy on the object which demands precise measurement was enhanced from multi image analysis, and also the assembly accuracy of the object could be checked by precise measurement and curve fitting.

Study for Improving Acoustic Characteristics of the Conference Room (회의장에서의 실내음향특성 개선에 관한 연구)

  • This paper presents a significant improvement achieved in the acoustic characteristics of a conference room of I-company originally designed and built without consideration for room acoustic characteristics. The reverberation time of the room was excessive, which resulted in poor 'Definition' for speech. Thus the improvement of room acoustic characteristics was required. In this study, experiments and simulations using the principles of geometrical acoustics were executed to improve the acoustic characteristics in the room. By performing a series of simulation, it has become possible to predict acoustic parameters for an improvement plan. And the improvement plan of room acoustic characteristics was established. And for the verification of the simulation results, the experimental data were compared and evaluated against those from the simulation. Additionally, the proposed method in this paper demonstrated its effectiveness by successfully improving the room acoustic characteristics resulted from repair construction.

  • This study is the 3-D positional analysis for track of magnetically levitated vehicles to precise construction and periodical safe diagnosis by photogrammetry. In the result, we could improve the accuracy of Z as well as X, Y using the modified control points of spatial distribution to the plane distribution of the absolutly effective control points to accuracy and diagnosis the the track of magnetically levitated vehicles using the below 1㎜ accuracy. And we could analysis the 3-D precise positions and efficiently decide the geometric characteristics of the cant and gradient to the instrument.

Study on the Treesize Prediction Model : A case study of Zelkova serrata, Pinus strobus and Magnolia denudata (주요조경수목의 크기 예측 " 모델 "에 관한 연구 : 느티나무, 스트로브잣나무, 백목련을 대상으로)

  • Size characteristics of three widely used landscape trees were analized to establish a methodology of size prediction as time Passes. Tree height, tree width, stem diameter(breast or surface), canopy length and tree age were measured directly and indirectly(by using photograph), and the data were analized by using regression analysis through PC-SAS. The results are summarized as follows : 1. Zelkova serrata MAKINO showed relatively slow growth rate and the tree form was changed as aged. Size predictions were available by using the regression equations listed below : Surface diameter = 0.8293 x AGE Tree height = 0.4109(0.8293 x AGE) - 0.0039(0.7273 x AGE)$^2$Tree width = 0.3240(0.8293 x AGE) - 0.0024(0.1293 x AGE)$^2$Canopy length = 0.1337(0.8293 x AGE) - 0.0020(0.7293 x AGE)$^2$2. Pinus strobus L. showed relatively fast growth rate and the tree form did not change much as aged. Size predictions were available by using the regression equations listed below. Breast diameter = 0.756 x AGE Tree height = 0.7695(0.756 x AGE) - 0.0164(0.75\ulcorner x AGE)$^2$Tree width = 0.4331(0.756 x AGE) - 0.0079(0.75\ulcorner x AGE)$^2$Canopy length = 0.1365(0.756 x AGE) - 0.0032(0.75f x AGE)$^2$ 3. In case of Magnolia denudata DESROUX, tree form was determined relatively earlier than the other two species. Si2e predictions were available by using the regression equations listed below : Surface diameter = 0.88 x AGE Tree height = 0.5412(0.88 x AGE) - 0.0110(0.88 x AGE)$^2$ Tree width = 0.3752(0.88 x AGE) - 7.0061(0.88 x AGE)$^2$Canopy length = 0.1110(0.88 x AGE) - 0.0022(0.88 x AGE)$^2$ This study aimed to find a way to predict size change of landscaping plants. This methodology will be applied to a wide range of landscape plants to provide practical data to landscape designers.
