Post-Last Glacial Sea-Level Change and Time-Averaging appeared from the Molluscan Thanatocoenoses in the Southern Sea of Korea (한국 남해해역 패류군집에서 나타나는 시간평균화 현상과 최종 빙하기 이후 해수면 변동)

  • Molluscan shells were sampled from the continental shelf of South Sea: 19 stations in the southeast continental shelf and 5 in the southwest sea, in order to understand characteristics of sea level changes and time-averaging since the last glacial age. Radiocarbon dates were made on 42 dominant and specific species which were sampled from 24 stations. Time-averaging was observed and showed to be 11,939 years in age difference. The sea-level ranged from 150 to 160 m below sea level during the LGM (about 15,000 yrs B.P). The sea-level significantly rose to 60 m at around 9,000 yrs B.P. and became stable at 50 to 60 m between periods between 4,000 and 5,000 yrs B.P. Between 3,000 and 4,000 yrs B.P, the sea-level rapidly rose to a depth of $10\~20m$ below today’s present sea level.

Impact of Meteorological Wind Fields Average on Predicting Volcanic Tephra Dispersion of Mt. Baekdu (백두산 화산 분출물 확산 예측에 대기흐름장 평균화가 미치는 영향)

  • In order to clarify the advection and dispersion characteristics of volcanic tephra to be emitted from the Mt. Baekdu, several numerical experiments were carried out using three-dimensional atmospheric dynamic model, Weather and Research Forecast (WRF) and Laglangian particles dispersion model FLEXPART. Four different temporally averaged meteorological values including wind speed and direction were used, and their averaged intervals of meteorological values are 1 month, 10 days, and 3days, respectively. Real time simulation without temporal averaging is also established in this study. As averaging time of meteorological elements is longer, wind along the principle direction is stronger. On the other hands, the tangential direction wind tends to be clearer when the time become shorten. Similar tendency was shown in the distribution of volcanic tephra because the dispersion of particles floating in the atmosphere is strongly associated with wind pattern. Wind transporting the volcanic tephra is divided clearly into upper and lower region and almost ash arriving the Korean Peninsula is released under 2 km high above the ground. Since setting up the temporal averaging of meteorological values is one of the critical factors to determine the density of tephra in the air and their surface deposition, reasonable time for averaging meteorological values should be established before the numerical dispersion assessment of volcanic tephra.

A Study on Mid-amble based V2X Channel Estimation Techniques Using Bidirectional Averaging (양방향 평균화를 이용한 새로운 Mid-amble 기반 V2X 채널추정 기법에 관한 연구)

  • In general, as the amplitude and phase information of the physical layer channel impulse response change rapidly in time and frequency according to the high-speed movement of the vehicles in V2X communication systems, it is difficult to accurately estimate these channels at the receiving end. In order to effectively overcome this problem, midamble-based channel estimation methods in which mid-ambles are periodically inserted into a packet have been recently considered. However, as the number of midambles increases, we suffer from the spectral efficiency loss. To relieve such a loss, in this paper, we propose a new bidirectional averaging channel estimation method that combines the existing data pilot-based channel estimation methods and the mid-ambles. Finally, through the simulation results, we demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms the existing mid-amble method in terms of packet error rate with fewer number of mid-ambles.

A Novel Enhanced Decision-Directed Channel Estimation Scheme in High-Speed Mobile Environments (고속 이동 전파환경에서 결정지향 채널 추정 기법의 개선)

  • It has been a big trend of the convergence technologies about communication systems and vehicular industry to improve safety and convenience. To achieve a number of infotainment vehicular applications, vehicles should transmit information with high reliability. A robust and accurate channel estimation scheme is of great importance to achieve the goal. In this paper, we present a novel enhanced decision-directed channel estimation scheme called FADP (Frequency Averaging Data Pilot) for dynamic time-varying vehicular channels in IEEE 802.11p. We use linear averaging filtering in frequency domain, and utilize the correlation characteristic of the channels between the adjacent two data symbols, update the CR in time domain to get more accuracy. Finally, analysis and simulation results reveal that compared with exist schemes, the proposed scheme has a good performance in mean square error (MSE) and bit error rate (BER).

Averaging Methods for Enhancing the Performance of DOA Estimation Under the Rotor Effect (로터 영향 하에서의 DOA 추정 성능 개선을 위한 평균화 방법)

  • There are various anti-jamming algorithms for the GNSS system which is vulnerable to jamming, and the methods using array antenna show the best performance. Among them, the DOA estimation algorithms to identify the location of the jammer is very important. However, in case of the rotorcraft, the wireless channel which amplitude and phase changes with time is generated by the rotation of the rotor and it affects the performance of existing anti-jamming algorithms. In this paper, we modeled the effect of the rotor in four scenarios according to the correlation of antennas and assured that the performance of DOA estimation algorithms are degraded and saturated regardless of JNR due to the rotor effect. When we use the averaging method to solve this problem, the performance is improved as increasing samples for estimating. And in case of using moving average method with averaging, it shows similar performance. In addition, it reduces the required memory and moderates the variation of DOA estimation.

A Jitter Suppressed DLL-Based Clock Generator (지연 고정 루프 기반의 지터 억제 클록 발생기)

  • A random and systematic jitter suppressed delay locked loop (DLL)-based clock generator with a delay-time voltage variance converter (DVVC) and an averaging circuit (AC) is presented. The DVVC senses the delay variance of each delay stage and generates a voltage. The AC averages the output voltages of two consecutive DVVCs to suppress the systematic and random delay variance of each delay stage in the VCDL. The DVVC and AC averages the delay time of successive delay stages and equalizes the delay time of all delay stages. In addition, a capacitor with a switch working effectively as a negative feedback function is introduced to reduce the variation of the loop filter output voltage. Measurement results of the DLL-based clock generator fabricated in a one-poly six-metal $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process shows 13.4-ps rms jitter.

International Time Comparisons in Common-View via Global Positioning System (GPS) Satekkutes (GPS위성 동시수신법에 의한 국제시각비교)

  • International time comparisons using a commercial GPS receiver, with the common-view program of GPS satellite time links, have been carried out between Korea Standards Research Institute(KSRI) and Communications Research Laboratory(CRL) of Japan, and also between KSRI and United Stated Neval Observatory(USNO). The frequency stability is about 1.5 parts in $10^-13$ for the averaging time of 1day. The result of time comparisons obtained by the GPS common-view technique was about 10 times better than that by the LORAN-C(Long Range Navigation) ground wave technique.

  • Through applying hostile radar signals that use stagger PRI to PRI transform in real time, we can analyze stagger PRI and calculate the future TOA for active cancellation by using measured TOA and estimated PRI. We shows the effect of the errors that are contained in PRI and measured TOA. Then, it will suggest the technique to improve the accuracy of estimated PRI and the TOA averaging method for reducing the effect of measured TOA error. Finally, we will show that accuracy of estimated future TOA that is calculated by proposed scheme is higher than that of future TOA that is simply calculated with TDOA and newest TOA through comparing RMSE performance.

Runoff Analysing Considering the Distribution of Conentration Time and Slope Length for a Small Basin (소유역의 홍수도달시간과 서면길이의 분포특성을 고려한 홍수유출해석)

  • The hydrologic response function in a small basin is expressed by the distribution function of slope length. The characteristics of topographical factors is represented to the concentration time, and the instantaneous unit hydrograph is derived as a hydrologic rsponse function by application of probobility density function. The averaging process of runoff characteristics within watershed was analyzed for a few small watershed where was split up the small basin itself. The method of calculation of the effective rainfall should play important roles in the transformation process from hydrologic response function to runoff hydrograph. In this paper, the Horton's infiltration quation is used as a method of calculation of effective rainfall, a new response function of runoff process is derived. The $\Phi$-index method and the infiltration method are tested by comparing the observed and estimated values.

Estimation of Chemical Flame Height based on Fuel Consumption in a Fire Field Model (필드모델에서 연료소모에 기초한 화학적 화염높이 산정)

  • The present study has been conducted to estimate the chemical flame height based on fuel consumption in fire field model. The calculation algorithms based on cumulative fraction of HRRPUL and fuel concentration along the z axis were applied to the results predicted by Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) version 6.3.2 and the mean chemical flame height was obtained by time averaging of instantaneous flame height with the algorithms. The mean flame height calculated by fuel concentration was quite well matched with that of cumulative value of HRRPUL within 10% over-prediction. This study contribute to a more detailed understanding of fire behavior and quantitative evaluation of flame height in the computational fire model.
