Performance Analysis of an Efficient Frame Synchronization Scheme using FFT Window Position Restoration Algorithm for OFDM Systems (OFDM System에서 FFT 윈도우 위치 복원 알고리즘을 이용한 효율적인 프레임 동기방식의 성능분석)

  • We present the frame synchronization scheme using the FFT window position restoration algorithm appropriate for wireless OFDM systems under multipath fading environment. From the restoration of the synchronization parameters of previous several frames, the algorithm can extract the synchronization parameters for the next frames. To analyze the performance of the proposed algorithm, we compare the probability of synchronization failure under time and frequency domains, respectively. From the simulation results, one can see that the algorithm in the time domain shows better performance than in the frequency one, for the $E_b/N_o$ of 6.0dB or more.

  • In this paper, to improve Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) image quality, the effect of time synchronization error in the EGI/IMU (Embedded GPS/INS, Inertial Measurement Unit) integrated system is analyzed and state augmentation is applied to compensate it. EGI/IMU integrated system is widely used as a SAR motion measurement algorithm, which consists of EGI mounted to obtain the trajectory and IMU mounted on the SAR antenna. In an EGI/IMU integrated system, a time synchronization error occurs when the clocks of the sensors are not synchronized. Analysis of the effect of time synchronization error on navigation solutions and SAR images confirmed that the time synchronization error deteriorates SAR image quality. The state augmentation is applied to compensate for this and as a result, the SAR image quality does not decrease. In addition, by analyzing the performance and the observability of the time synchronization error according to the maneuver, it was confirmed that the time-variant maneuver such as rotational motion is necessary to estimate the time synchronization error adequately. In order to reduce the influence of the time synchronization error on the SAR image, the time synchronization error must be compensated by performing maneuver changing over time such as a rotation before SAR operation.

  • When implementing Enhanced TV services, the time synchronization between the video stream that forms the background and the data contents overlaid on audio/video is an important issue. Currently, however, the basic method of synchronizing the data in the MPEG-4 environment is based on absolute time values. For more efficient synchronization when developing Enhanced TV content, this paper proposes a content-based synchronization in which the data content varies depending on the video content. The proposed content-based synchronization method is implemented by defining BIFS nodes more widely, based on scene keywords, and then using the metadata of MPEG7.

  • This paper describes the design and implementation of multimedia presentation system based on the compensative synchronization algorithm. We proposed the compensative synchronization algorithm in compensation for previously preestimated delay-time in order to minimize delay-time in multimedia presentation system. The presentation system uses compensative synchronization algorithm and have multimedia objects as text, raster graphics, geometric graphics, or audio.

  • The existing protocol which processes sequentially synchronization has the problem where synchronization tasks which are requested subsequently from multiple client. Should be waited for a long time. In this paper, we propose a implementation of concurrent synchronization protocol that is capable of reducing the waiting time. If there are no update conflicts among different synchronization tasks, the proposed protocol synchronizes using the multi-queue based on the round-robin scheme, in order to reduce the waiting time.

  • In this paper, we propose a synchronization protocol for underwater acoustic networks which aims to minimize the effects of long propagation delay and uncertain delay variations and employs packet train scheme with considering low data rate. The proposed protocol uses an one-way delay measurement method by transmitting consecutive packets and acquires synchronization only considering propagation delay variations by calculating packet arrival time differences. We perform simulations under various network conditions, such as node mobility, time interval for packet transmission, network range, and elapsed time after synchronizing. The simulation results shows the superiority of our protocol, compared with a previously proposed protocol.

  • Reference Broadcast Synchronization (RBS) is one of the most prominent synchronization protocols in wireless sensor nework. Given that the broadcasting medium is available, RBS can give very high accuracy of synchronization. However, RBS uses instantaneous synchronization and results in time discontinuity, which might cause serious faults in the distributed system. Also, RBS lacks packet loss tolerance, which brings about degraded performance in severe conditions of wireless channel. In this paper, the problem of time discontinuity in RBS is pointed out and the effect of packet loss on the performance of RBS is examined. Then, a continuous synchronization and a packet loss tolerance mechanism for RBS are proposed, and the result is verified through simulations.

  • The main goal of synchronization is to guarantee exclusive access to shared data and critical sections, and then it makes parallel programs work correctly and reliably. Exclusive access restricts parallelism of parallel programs, therefor efficient synchronization is essential to achieve high performance in shared-memory parallel programs. Many techniques are devised for efficient synchronization, which utilize features of systems and applications. This paper shows the simulation results that existing synchronization methods have inefficiency under CC-NUMA(Cache Coherent Non-Uniform Memory Access) system, and then compares the performance of Freeze&Melt synchronization that can remove the inefficiency. The simulation results present that Test-and-Test&Set synchronization has inefficiency caused by broadcast operation and the pre-defined order of Queue-On-Lock-Bit (QOLB) synchronization to execute a critical section causes inefficiency. Freeze&Melt synchronization, which removes these inefficiencies, has performance gain by decreasing the waiting time to execute a critical section and the execution time of a critical section, and by reducing the traffic between clusters.

Precision Time Synchronization System over Wireless Networks for TDOA-based Real Time Locating Systems (TDOA 기반의 실시간 위치 측정 시스템을 위한 정밀 무선 시각 동기 시스템)

  • RTLS is a system for automatically locating and tracking people and objects. The TDOA-based RTLS determines the location of the tag by calculating the time differences of a signal received from the tag. In TDOA-based RTLS, time synchronization is essential to calculate the time difference between readers. This paper presents a precision time synchronization method for TDOA-based RTLS over IEEE 802.15.4. In order to achieve precision time synchronization in IEEE 802.15.4 radio, we analyzed the error factors of delay and jitter. We also deal with the implementation of hardware assisted time stamping and the Kalman filtering method to minimize the error factors. In addition, this paper described the experiments and performance evaluation of the proposed precision time synchronization method in IEEE 802.15.4 radio. The results show that the nodes in a network can maintain their clocks to within 10 nanoseconds offset from the reference clock.

An XML Document Data Synchronization System Based on Embedded XML Database (내장형 XML 데이터베이스를 기반으로 한 XML 문서 데이터 동기화 시스템)

  • In this paper, we developed an XML Document Data Synchronization System for java(XDS4j) based on both SyncML(Synchronization Markup Language) framework Sync4j and embedded database system Berkeley DB XML. Because most existing data synchronization systems are based on file systems, data synchronization times at Fast Sync in those systems are very delayed. In the XDS4j, however, XML documents data produced at SyncML client and SyncML server are managed by embedded database system, and also synchronization time at Fast Sync is reduced because only partial elements are accessed by applying to XPath.
