A Study on the Characteristics and Utility of Oriental Calligraphy Technique (동양적 캘리그라피 기법의 특성과 활용에 관한 연구)

  • Nowadays calligraphy technique is widely utilized in diverse areas throughout the world. It is adopted in the visual environment of modern people comprehending from graphic design areas such as advertisement, package, symbol marks, logotypes, and movie posters to modern abstract paintings. It is because its dynamic and suggestive power of expression as symbolic and kinetic representation has been appreciated anew. In response to modern people's aversion from the mechanical and artificial digital environment as well as from the uniform, official, and modernistic trend, calligraphy technique is attracting people's attention as a new expressive style with oriental mysticism and emotional intimacy. Therefore, this study aims at illuminating the history of calligraphy, understanding its characteristics, searching for the expanded value of modern paintings and graphic designs, and ultimately contributing to the propagation of visual languages and expressive styles. In addition, this study attempted to establish the concept of Calli-Illust, which combines oriental painting techniques and materials and calligraphy techniques, and to explore for its potential uses in order to expand the area of illustration. According to the results of this study, calligraphy technique is a painting style of abstract expressionism, contributing to the expansion of the territory of a new formative area. Furthermore, this study proved that it is necessary to develop new expressive styles to overcome the limitation of design styles based on western rational, logical, and geometric functionalism, which have been received uncritically in the design environment of diversity. What is more, the concept and definition of calli-illust, which has been understood as a part of the concept of calligraphy so far, were clarified Research on calli-illust is just in its beginning stage. The present researcher expects that deeper and more extensive studies will be carried out in the future, so that calli-illust can be applied to communication design in various ways.

Effects of Cognitive Style and Training Context on Visual Discrimination Skill Acquisition and Transfer under Time Pressure (시간압력 상황에서 인지양식과 학습맥락이 시각변별의 기술습득과 전이에 미치는 효과)

  • This study investigated how cognitive style and training context influenced visual discrimination skill acquisition and transfer under time pressure. This experiment consisted of a screening session, a training session, and a transfer session using random polygon comparison tasks. Screening session was designed to separate participants according to their cognitive style (analytic or holistic). Training session was divided into difficult and easy conditions. In transfer session, participants compared polygon pairs in a novel task. The stimuli were presented for 1.5 seconds to examine the influence of time pressure. Through the all sessions, this experiment measured accuracy and response time. According to the results of this study, analytic group responded as quickly as holistic group in the beginning of training session because time pressure induced them to the holistic strategy. However, as training session progressed, their slopes of reaction time increased, suggesting that their own analytic style emerged. Holistic group showed flatter slopes than did analytic group for training session. Of interest is the slopes increased at the beginning of transfer session, suggesting that they developed analytic strategies in difficult training context. It is suggested individuals differently develop strategic processing skills depending on cognitive styles even under time pressure.

  • Currently the time when we are living the large majority is harmonizing with digital medium together. From the calligraphy which is traditional in the example is reconstituted with digital and with the element which is one design is being born again. This about one being time is not a fun in rediscovery and as the design where the traditional form which seems hardly is modern is mixed in digital medium and is going. In this paper when digitalizing the expressive technique of calligraphy from the work which is analog time knows the important element of the actual conditions which appear and the report person does. The ink which appears from joke from actual work or calligraphy technique analyzes the actual condition spreading and this digitalization at the time of height boil time.

  • The 21 Century is definded as an age of culture or image characterized by the fact, that modern society are being overwhelmed with virtual reality, that is full of visual images. The cultural concentration on the visual image and the excessive tendency to attend it become not only today but also ever as the leading style of culture. Nevertheless, it is particularly noteworthy that the visual image has become so one of the basic conditions of modern society, that one holds it as the society of the spectacle. So can the problem of seeing that resulted from the oculocentric culture, that is the problem of the fundamental relationship between the world and the eyes of human beings, be examined in the phenomenological sense. For this study, I believe that 『Phenomenologie de la Perception』 of Merleau-Ponty provides a important approach. The theme of this study is to refer, first, how man has dealt with the seeing in the history of philosophy, such as Plato, Kant, and Merleau-Ponty, who although not the anti-oculocentricism, but also makes serious reflection about an excess of visual images. Second, it is to explain what characteristics and problems are located in these considerations, and thirdly, it must be brought into the light, what is the essence of the seeing with regard to the beauty, the truth and the morality.

An Analysis of the Mental Models of Middle School Students with Different Learning Style on Plate Tectonics (학습 양식이 다른 중학생들의 판구조론에 관한 정신모형 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify middle school students' mental models on plate tectonics and to compare the mental models of verbal-learning-style students with those of visual-learning-style students. 94 student participants in 9th grade were requested to draw and explain three topics; generation of magma, the formation of the mountain range and the interior of the Earth. The criterions for analyzing the mental models are derived from the data of the drawing task. The research results were as follows: The mental models on the generation of magma were classified as 'unstable model,' 'partial casual model,' 'causal model,' and 'conceptual model.' On the other hand, the mental models on the interior of the Earth were classified as 'static unstable model,' 'dynamic unstable model,' and 'conceptual model.' Students holding 'unstable model' were unable to relate the plate collision and the magma generation. They showed a variety of alternative conceptions of study areas, such as 'magma is generated from the core' and 'the mountain is formed by rising of the plates themselves.' Also, visual-learning-style students showed higher proportion of conceptual models and lower proportion of unstable mental models than verbal-learning-style students on three topics. The findings revealed that the students tend to have different concepts on the plate tectonics depending on their learning style.

An Analysis of the Uses of External Representations in Matter Units of 7th-Grade Science Digital Textbooks Developed Under the 2015 Revised National Curriculum (2015 개정 교육과정에 따른 중학교 1학년 디지털교과서의 물질 단원에서 나타난 외적 표상의 활용 실태 분석)

  • This study analyzed the uses of external representations presented in the matter units of the 7th-grade science digital textbooks developed under the 2015 revised national curriculum. The level, form, presentation, and interactivity of external representations presented in 5 types of digital textbooks were analyzed. As for the level, the macroscopic level of representations was mainly presented. The macroscopic level and microscopic level of representations were presented together in the particle description. As for the form, visual-verbal and visual-nonverbal representations were usually presented across the board. Very few audial-verbal and audial-nonverbal representations were presented. Visual-verbal and audial-verbal representations were mostly presented in formal form, and visual-nonverbal representations were mostly presented in illustration without movement. The presentation of representations was analyzed in three aspects. First, visual-verbal and visual-nonverbal representations were mainly presented together and none of audial-verbal and visual-nonverbal representations were presented together. When the representations of the audial-verbal, visual-nonverbal, and visual-verbal were presented together, some of the information presented in audial-verbal representations was repeatedly presented in the visual-verbal representations. Second, audial-nonverbal representations not related to learning content were presented along with other representations. Third, there were few cases of arranging visual-verbal and visual-nonverbal representations on the next pages. Audialverbal and visual-nonverbal representations were always presented synchronized. As for the interactivity, the manipulation level was mainly presented in the main area, and the feedback level was mainly presented in the activity area. The adaptation level and the communication level of interactivity were presented very few. Based on the results, the implications for the direction of constructing digital textbooks were discussed.

An Analysis of Eye Movement in Observation According to University Students' Cognitive Style (대학생들의 인지양식에 따른 관찰에서의 안구 운동 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze observation characteristics through eye movement according to cognitive styles. To do this, we developed observation tasks that show the differences between wholistic cognitive style group and analytic cognitive style group, measured eye movement of university students with different cognitive styles after being given an observation task. The difference between two cognitive style groups is confirmed by analysing gathered statistics and visualization data. The findings of this study are as follows: First, to compare fixation time and frequency, we compared the average value of total time used in the observation task by the wholistic cognitive style group and analytic cognitive style group. The numbers of Fixation (total) and number of Fixations (30s), is based on the fact that the wholistic cognitive style group has more numbers of fixation (Total) and number of fixations (30s) means the wholistic cognitive style group can observe more points or overall features than the analytic cognitive style group, in contrast, the analytic cognitive style group tend to focus on a particular detail, and observe less numbers of points. Second, to compare observation object and area by cognitive style, the outcome of analysing visualization data shows that wholistic cognitive style group observes the surrounding environment of spider and web on a wider area, on the other hand, the analytic cognitive style group observes by focusing on the spider itself. Through the result of this study, there are differences in observation time, frequency, object, area, and ratio from the two cognitive styles. It also shows the reason why each student has varied outcome, from the difference of information following their cognitive styles, and the result of this study helps to figure out and give direction as to what observation fulfillment is more suitable for each student.

  • 경극은 중국의 전통극 중 하나이다. 경극의 영어 명칭은 'peking Opera'다. 경극의 "분장"은 희극에서 배우들이 얼굴에 하는 채색 화장을 가리킨다. 경극 배우들의 얼굴 분장을 '검보'라고 한다. 형태, 색채와 유형 면에서 특별한 양식을 갖춘다. 본 논문은 중국에 전하는 가면극의 외면적 표현 형태를 시각디자인 조형영역 분석을 통해 학문적 가치를 창출하는데 목적이 있다. 본 논문의 연구 영역은 경극의 유래, 색채, 형식적 측면에 대한 조형분석과 가면의 표현형식, 즉 표형기법, 색상구성, 형태구성, 역할특성 등의 구성형식을 조형적 분석 틀에 의해 분석하고자 한다. 가면 얼굴의 대표문양 분석을 통해 단순화 표현형식으로 작품을 만들어 연구하고자 한다. 분 논문의 의의는 중국 전통경극의 집중적 연구의 결과 추출을 통해 한국의 유사 전통탈춤과 비교하는 연구의 귀중한 자료로 예측되기에 본 연구를 진행하였다.

한국 서체문자미술의 흐름과 디자인마케팅에 관한 고찰

  • 국제적 미술 양식이면서 동양적 요소를 갖추고 있는 서체 문자마술을 통하여 우리 미술문화의 현재와 새로운 가능성을 찾아보았다. 서체 문자미술을 이루고 있는 기호인 한자와 한글을 우리 조상들이 생활 속에서 계속 사용하여 왔으며 나아가 조선에 이르러서는 민화에서 문자그림을 나타내고 있다. 현대에 들어서면서 우리의 이름 있는 작가들과 후학들이 서체에서 나타나는 문자를 이용하여 작품세계를 빛내고 있다. 현대미술의 서체적인 문자그림들의 평가와 그 가능성을 밝히고 디자인마케팅에 있어서 시각적인 학습과 기억에의 서체문자 미술의 활용에 대해 고찰하며, 특히 한국미술에 있어 서체적인 문자그림의 전통성과 현대미술에서의 표현을 통하여 서체 문자그림이 동시대 한국 미술문화를 이루는데 한 축을 이루고 있음을 밝히면서, 한국 서체 문자미술이 디자인마케팅에의 시각적 표현활용에 대해 언급하고 있다.

  • 본 논문은 다큐멘터리 사진의 의미구조와 특성을 스티브 맥커리(Steve Mcccury)의 작품을 통해서 사진이 내포하고 있는 의미구조와 텍스트의 이중적 구조의 전달 방식에 대한 특성을 살펴보고자 하였다. 다큐멘터리 사진이 갖고 있는 시각적 믿음의 생산에 따른 이미지의 진실성은 다양한 양식과 표현 기법을 통해서 전달되고 있는 점을 살펴볼 수 있다. 결국, 다큐멘터리 사진이 갖고 있는 우리 사회의 모습은 단순한 기록매체로의 수단이 아니라는 점을 인식하여야 할 것이다.
