  • The aim of the research is to evaluate the influence of various replacing ratios of supplementary cementitious materials(SCMs) such as fly ash(FA), blast furnace slag(BS), and both FA and BS on general properties including segregation resistance as a powder based high fluidity concrete of normal strength grade with water-to-cement ratio 0.40. Specifically, by replacing the SCMs with low density powders, it was assessed that the decreased segregation resistance due to the decreased viscosity by J-ring test. As a result of the experiment, from the general test, the mixtures with SCMs showed increased segregation resistance by increased viscosity as the references, while some segregation was shown from J-ring test due to the decreased density of fresh state mixture related with the capacity of delivering coarse aggregate.

  • Apparent diffusion coefficients of Cl- ions through hardened cement pastes(HCP), which were partly subs¬tituted blast furnace slag, fly ash and silicafume for ordinary Portland cement, were determined. Also. Cl- and OW concentration of pore solutions which were extracted from HCP and the capacities of the HCP to bind CI were determined. Diffusion coefficients of Cl- ions through HCP were increased with water cement ratio(WfC), but decreased with addition of the blending materials. On the contrary, Cl- and OH concentration of the pore solutions were reduced by adding the blending materials.

  • The eight mixes and artificial soil aggregates were prepared for evaluating the practical application of lightweight foamed concrete as soil aggregates. The main parameter was unit binder content ranged between from 100 to $800kg/m^3$. In lightweight foamed concrete, flow, slurry and dried density, and compressive strength at different ages were measured. In Artificial soil aggregates crushed from lightweight foamed concrete, particle size distribution, pH, coefficient of permeability, cation exchange capacity(CEC), and ratio of carbon to nitrogen(ratio of C/N), were measured. The test results showed that flow, slurry and dried density, and compressive strength at different ages of lightweight foamed concrete increased with the increasing of unit binder content. Compressive strength at age of 28, of lightweight foamed concrete with unit binder of more than $500kg/m^3$, was more than 4 MPa. The ammonium phosphate immersion time of more than age of 3, was effective to decrease pH of artificial soil aggregates. In addition, artificial soil aggregates was evaluated as high class in terms of cation exchange capacity(CEC), while satisfied with value of ratio of carbon to nitrogen(ratio of C/N) recommended by landscape specification.

  • In order to use the high-volume slag cement as a construction materials, a proper activator which can improve the latent hydraulic reactivity is required. The dissolved aluminum silicon ions from ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) react with sulfate ions to form ettringite. The proper formation of ettringite can increase the early-age strength of high-volume GGBFS (80%) cement. The aim of this study is to investigate the hydration properties with sulfate activators (sodium sulfate, anhydrite). In this paper, the effects of $Na_2SO_4$ and $CaSO_4$ on setting, compressive strength, hydration, micro-structure were investigated in high-volume GGBFS cement and compared with those of without activator. Test results indicate that equivalent $SO_3$ content of 3~5% improve the early-age hydration properties such as compressive strength, heat evolution rate, micro-pore structure in high-volume GGBFS cement.

  • Recently, in Korea, there has been an increasing number of research papers published which are to improve durability of concrete, particularly by analyzing correlation between diffusivity of chloride and porosity/pore size distribution. In these studies, such test methods as mercury intrusion porosimetry(MIP), gas adsorption or image analysis method are used to analyze the microstructure of materials while MIP is most widely used for concrete. This study analyzes the results of porosity and pore size distribution of paste and concrete adding fly ash or blast furnace slag by using MIP equipment which is widely used for determining micro-porosity structure of cementitious materials. A variation in porosity and pore size distribution at the curing day 3, 7 and 28 has been observed by using MIP equipment for cement paste 35%, 40%, 45%, 50%, 55%, 60% of W/C when using $300kg/m^3$ of cement, 35%, 45%, 55% of W/C when replaced 60% with blast-furnace slag, and 35%, 45%, 55% of W/C when replaced 30% with fly ash. For long-term water cured normal OPC concrete and mixed concrete replaced 60% with blast-furnace slag powder, micro-structure of the sample has been analyzed by using MIP equipment when W/C indicated 40%, 45%, 50% respectively and the binder varied $300kg/m^3$, $350kg/m^3$, $400kg/m^3$, and $450kg/m^3$.

  • Assessment on adequate dosage of superplasticizer in eco-friendly ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) containing industrial by-products was carried out from the standpoint of workability. Various types of industrial by-products, including blast-furnace slag, coal bottom ash and rapid-cooled electric arc furnace oxidizing slag, were utilized, and the effects of dosage of superplasticizer on the workability and strength of UHPC containing the by-products were evaluated. By utilizing the by-products, the workability of UHPC was improved and required dosage of superplasticizer was reduced. In addition, the material cost for UHPC with by-products was decreased due to reduced dosage of superplasticizer.

  • Recently environmental pollution is serious and therefore, This study aims at reviewing individual mixing ratio and engineering characteristics of concrete due to mixture and mixing using fine powder and fly ash of blast furnace slag having effect on aspects of environmental preservation and resources recycling and performance increase of the concrete, and verifying possibility of application in the field. Test results are as follows: 1)As mixing quantity of the admixture has increased, performance of the slump has been improved, 2)As mixing quantity of the admixture has increased, there is a trend of delayed ending time, 3)As mixing quantity of admixture has increased, it has showed lower strength at short time age, however, as the age has elapsed and mixing quantity has increased, strength improvement has increased and the admixture has effect on the long term age. In this study, the characteristics and critical value of concrete contained blast furnace slag and fly ash are defined, and will be examined about the field applications.

  • This paper is to investigate an effect of waste cooking oil(WCO) on the engineering properties and durability of high volume admixture concrete. Fly ash with 30% and blast furnace slag with 60% were incorporated in OPC to fabricate high volume admixture concrete with 0.5 of W/B. Emulsified refining cooking oil(ERCO) was made by mixing WCO and emulsifying agent to improve fluidity. ERCO was replaced by cement from 0.25 to 1.0%. As results, the increase of ERCO resulted in decrease of slump and air contents. For compressive strength, the use of ERCO led to decrease the compressive strength at 28 days, while it had similar strength or much higher strength than plain concrete at 180 days. Resistance to carbonation and chloride penetration was improved with the increase of ERCO contents due to decreased pore distribution by saponification between ERCO and concrete, while freeze-thaw resistance was degraded due to air loss.
