  • In this study, moisture absorption coefficient and efflorescence properties of Ordinary Portland cement and alkali-activated slag cement mortar were assessed according to their red mud substitution ratio. Tests were conducted to determine the cause of efflorescence, which is a significant obstacle to the recycling of red mud as a sodium activator in alkali-activated slag cement, and to find a method to control efflorescence.

  • Recent government policies are increasing interest in zero-energy housing, a building that minimizes energy consumption (90% reduction). As the importance of building passive performance is emphasized, the role of insulation is increasing as a way to reduce indoor heat loss in order to minimize the use of cooling and heating energy. There are two main types of insulation. Organic insulation is widely used for various construction structures such as construction and industrial due to some merits such as the convenience of construction and construction cost. However, it has been pointed out as a main cause every time a fire accident occurs, Jecheon Sports Center', the fire damage of buildings caused by the use of organic insulation materials is expanding to social problems, so it is urgent to research on nonflammable inorganic insulation materials.

  • In order to investigate the properties of the blended cement using coarsely ground blasturnace slag blended coements which were substituted from 10 to 70 wt% low Blaine slag powder (2,000 and 3,000 cm2/g) for porland cement clinker were prepared and Cal(OH)2 contents in hydrates hydration heat the fluidity and the compressive strength were measured. As the content of slag was increased the hydration heat and the early strength was decreased and the fluidity of the cement paste was improved. The heat evolution of the cement with 2,000cm2/g slag was lower than that of 3,000 cm2/g slag blended cement. Especially the heat evolution of 60wt% or above slag blended cement was similar to that of belite rich cement.

  • The blast furnace slag, which is widely used as a cement admixture, has latent hydraulics under the influence of cement hydrate, and fly ash and silica fume mainly cause a pozolane reaction. As a result, the cement structure becomes dense, and it is possible to compensate for defects when concrete is usually made with portland cement alone. When fixing carbon dioxide through reaction with carbon dioxide, the amount of calcium hydroxide in the cement paste is important. The larger the amount of calcium hydroxide, the more active the reaction may occur. It is also an important variable in calculating the depth of neutralization through carbonization. In this study, calcium hydroxide in cement paste using mixed materials was quantified through thermal analysis.

  • This study analyzed the temperature stress through mixtures mass concrete hydration heat analysis according to the replacement rates of FAC and CGS. As a result of the analysis, it was possible to confirm the effect of reducing hydration heat when CGS is substituted for the low heat mixture of mass concrete. However, the stress of the FAC+CGS combination exceeded the tensile stress. It is believed that it is necessary to apply the insulating sheet of the surface part and reduce the unit weight of cement.

  • Limestone slag cement is a green and sustainable building material with huge market potential. However, its shortcoming of low early compressive strength needs to be improved. A method of using aluminum sulfate to improve the early strength of ternary mixed mortar was proposed, and its effect and optimal dosage were tested. Macroscopic properties such as mechanical properties and surface electrical resistivity were measured at different dosages (0%, 1%, 2%, 3%). The microstructure and products of the mixtures were tested in detail, including by scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and X-ray diffraction. The results show aluminum sulfate enhances mechanical properties and significantly increases surface electrical resistivity. The 1% and 2% doses had no adverse effects on the 28-day mechanical properties, while the 3% dose reduced the 28-day strength. Considering the changes in mechanical properties and surface electrical resistivity, 1% aluminum sulfate is the optimal dosage.

  • Lightweight aggregates has a dry specific gravity of 2.0 or less, which is lower than natural aggregates. Lightweght aggregate is efficient for weight reduction but has low compressive strength. In this study, EIS(electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy) was used to confirm the ITZ(Interfacial Transition Zone) between the lightweight aggregate and cement paste according to the coated of blast furnace slag powder. As a result of EIS measurement, the correlation between ITZ characteristics and compressive strength was determined. The phase angle of EIS was different depending on the blast furnace slag powder coated of the lightweight aggregate. The surface-cotead lightweight aggregate was improved and the ITZ was strengthened.

  • In this study, the construction method of new underground continuos impervious wall that the bentonite slurry keeps the stability of excavated trench and the mixture of cement and bentonite plays a role as a constituent of impervious wall in the trench. The merit of homogeneity of the method so called as a cement-bentonite slurry wall enables to accurately make an estimation of hydraulic conductivity of the walls compared with that by other general grouting methods and to verify their waterproof efficiency without difficulty at the design stage. The use of cement-bentonite slurry walls for the containment of groundwater flow has also proven a cost-effective impervious wall technology by employing the simple combination of construction equipments and easy and fast construction procedures. The engineering characteristics of cement-bentonite impervious wall obtained by carrying out the laboratory experiments under various conditions. This study reveals the effect of variation of constituent materials and their mixing methods (Water-Cement-Bentonite) on the engineering characteristics of a composition. Also, this study makes some recommendations on the optimum mixing ratio and mixing sequence for the best quality at the site. That is the most important factors to estimate the construction cost and design of the technique. The comparison is lastly made to evaluate the effect of ordinary Portland and blast furnace slag cement as a bonding material on the behavior of impervious walls.

  • This study aimed to develop flowable backfill material using oyster shell, coal ash, and surplus soil. The high temperature (> $800^{\circ}C$) reaction was required to convert $CaCO_3$ to CaO. The solid specimens formed by pozzlanic reaction between CaO and coal ash showed low unconfined compressive strength. The effect of kaolin and blast furnace slag was also examined. It was found that CaO and coal ash could not be utilized due to high cost and low performance. The use of oyster shell without calcination ($CaCO_3$) was evaluated. The specimens composing of oyster shell and cement showed the higher unconfined compressive strength than that composing of coal ash and cement. However, use of oyster shell is limited in mortar due to the presence of salt. Addition of soil into oyster shell-coal ash-cement mixture satisfied the specification of flowable backfill material by optimizing their ratio.
