  • An architecture of direct digital frequency synthesizers (DDFS) is studied in this paper The Direct digital frequency synthesizers (DDFS) provide fast frequency switching with high spectral purity and are widely used in modern spread spectrum wireless communication systems. ROM-based DDFS uses a ROM lookup table to store the amplitude of a sine wave. In this paper, we suggest three new techniques to reduce the ROM size. One new technique uses more number of hierarchical levels in ROM structures. Another techniques use simple interpolation techniques combined with hierarchical ROM structures. A 12 bit sine wave is generated by using these techniques. Experimental results show that the new proposed techniques can reduce the required ROM size by up to 24%, when compared to that of a resent method[1].

  • In this study, the way how we can find the defects of motor windings in advance will be discussed. The magnetic flux spectrum in the high frequency region of the large motor was analyzed based on the actual fault practices related with motor windings. In case of defective motor relative amplitude ratio of the stator slot frequency to its sideband was very high compared to that of healthy motor. And the defective signal related with motor windings was indicated in advance in the magnetic flux spectrum prior to over 1 month before failure. Considering this aspect it can be estimated that magnetic flux spectrum in the high frequency region has the excellent predictive diagnostic capability.

  • In this paper, we propose a packet loss concealment (PLC) algorithm using pitch harmonic motion prediction and adaptive signal amplitude prediction and. The spectral motion prediction method divides the spectral motion of the previous usable frame into predetermined sub-bands to predict and restore the motion of the lost signal. In the proposed algorithm, the speech signal is classified into voiced and unvoiced sounds. In the case of voiced sounds, it is further divided into pitch harmonics using the pitch frequency to predict and restore the pitch harmonic motion of the lost frame, and for the unvoiced sound, the lost frame is restored using the spectral motion prediction method. When the continuous loss of speech frames occurs, a method of adjusting the gain using the least mean square (LMS) predictor is proposed. The performance of the proposed algorithm was evaluated through the objective evaluation method, PESQ (Perceptual Evaluation of Speech Quality) and was showed MOS 0.1 improvement over the conventional method.

  • ZnO nanoparticles were prepared by laser ablation of the ZnO powder dispersed in deionized water and surfactant solutions, and characterized using UV-VIS absorption spectroscopy, X-ray diffractometer and Transmission electron microscopy(TEM). ZnO nanoparticles produced show the pure ZnO crystal state without mixed state with Zn(OH)2 or Zn, and have the band gap energy of 3.35 eV, which is comparable to that of bulk ZnO. While ZnO nanoparticles prepared in SDS solution have the average diameter of 28nm with near spherical shape, those prepared in CTAB solution have the average size of 40 nm with mainly rod-like shape. ZnO colloidal solution of CTAB is more stable than that of SDS. These difference according to surfactants can be explained by difference of electrostatic interaction between surface charge of ZnO and surfactant molecules and by solvation effect in solution.

  • We studied the characteristics of impedance and electromechanical coupling coefficient in ZnO and AIN thin films by using resonance frequency spectrum method. The response peak of impedance decreased with the decrease of thickness of piezoelectrics, the number of mode of response peak decreased with the decrease of substrate thickness. An error of Kt² estimated from input Kt² increased as the thickness of piezoelectrics decreased and the thickness of substrate increased. Also, the error was increased in case of a large acoustic impedance of substrate. It was found that the composite resonator operating in optimized condition could be designed through the resonance frequency spectrum analysis of composited resonator consisted of piezoelectric thin film and substrate.

  • This paper describes Lombard effect compensation and noise suppression so as to reduce speech recognition error in noisy environments. Lombard effect is represented by the variation of spectral envelope of energy normalized word and the variation of overall vocal intensity. The variation of spectral envelope can be compensated by linear transformation in cepstral domain. The variation of vocal intensity is canceled by spectral magnitude normalization. Spectral subtraction is use to suppress noise contamination, and band-pass filtering is used to emphasize dynamic features. To understand Lombard effect and verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, speech data are collected in simulated noisy environments. Recognition experiments were conducted with contamination by noise from automobile cabins, an exhibition hall, telephone booths in down town, crowded streets, and computer rooms. From the experiments, the effectiveness of the proposed method has been confirmed.

  • Recently, several studies have been conducted on virtual fixed-point and elastic soil spring methods to simulate the soil-pile interaction in response to spectrum analysis of pile-supported structures. However, the soil spring stiffness has not been properly considered due to the seismic load magnitude, and studies on the response spectrum analysis of pile-supported structures considering this circumstance are inadequate. Therefore, in this study, the response spectrum analysis was performed considering the soil spring stiffness according to the seismic load magnitude, and the dynamic behavior of the pile-supported structure was evaluated by comparing it with existing virtual fixed-point and elastic soil spring methods. Comparing the experiment and analysis, the moment differences occurred up to 117% and 21% in the virtual fixed-point and elastic soil spring models, respectively. Moreover, when the analysis was performed using an API p-y curve considering the soil spring stiffness according to the seismic load magnitude, the moment difference between the experiment and analysis was derived at a maximum of < 4%, and it is the most accurate method to simulate the experimental model response.

  • Spectral modeling synthesis (SMS) has been used as a powerful tool for musical sound modeling. This technique considers a sound as a combination of a deterministic plus a stochastic component. The deterministic component is represented by the series of sinusoids that are described by amplitude, frequency, and phase functions and the stochastic component is represented by a series of magnitude spectrum envelopes that functions as a time varying filter excited by white noise. These representations make it possible for a synthesized sound to attain all the perceptual characteristics of the original sound. However, sometimes considerable phase variations occur in the deterministic component by using the conventional SMS for the complex sound such as whale sounds when the partial frequencies in successive frames differ. This is because it utilizes the calculated phase to synthesize deterministic component of the sound. As a result, it does not provide a good spectrum matching between original and synthesized spectrum in higher frequency region. To overcome this problem, we propose a modified SMS that provides good spectrum matching of original and synthesized sound by calculating complex residual spectrum in frequency domain and utilizing original phase information to synthesize the deterministic component of the sound. Analysis and simulation results for synthesizing whale sounds suggest that the proposed method is comparable to the conventional SMS in both time and frequency domain. However, the proposed method outperforms the SMS in better spectrum matching.

  • Speech enhancement used to improve the perceptual quality and intelligibility of noise speech has been studied as a method using a complex-valued spectrum that can improve both magnitude and phase in a method using a magnitude spectrum. In this paper, a study was conducted on how to apply attention mechanism to complex-valued spectrum-based speech enhancement systems to further improve the intelligibility and quality of noise speech. The attention is performed based on additive attention and allows the attention weight to be calculated in consideration of the complex-valued spectrum. In addition, the global average pooling was used to consider the importance of the feature map. Complex-valued spectrum-based speech enhancement was performed based on the Deep Complex U-Net (DCUNET) model, and additive attention was conducted based on the proposed method in the Attention U-Net model. The results of the experiments on noise speech in a living room environment showed that the proposed method is improved performance over the baseline model according to evaluation metrics such as Source to Distortion Ratio (SDR), Perceptual Evaluation of Speech Quality (PESQ), and Short Time Object Intelligence (STOI), and consistently improved performance across various background noise environments and low Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) conditions. Through this, the proposed speech enhancement system demonstrated its effectiveness in improving the intelligibility and quality of noisy speech.
