  • This paper analyzes the spectral power properties of various time hopping UWB signals and shows that the power spectral densities of the various signals could have to be determined by the PSD of the pulse used in the signal. The pulse design method by which the FCC emission mask can be utilized fully is proposed. The method combines the arbitrary derivative Gaussian pulse linearly. The coefficients of the linear combination are calculated by the LSE(Least Square Error) method. Various parameters such as the number of coefficients and the types of the basic pulses are considered when calculating the PSD and pulse shapes of the new pulses.

  • We propose new pulse shapes for FCC-compliant ultra-wideband (UWB) radios. The projections onto convex sets (POCS) technique is used to optimize temporal and spectral shapes of UWB pulses under the constraints of all of the desired UWB signal properties: efficient spectral utilization under the FCC spectral mask, time-limitedness, and good autocorrelation. Simulation results show that for all values of the pulse duration, the new pulse shapes not only meet the FCC spectral mask most efficiently, but also have nearly the same autocorrelation functions. It is also observed that our truncated (i.e., strictly time-limited) pulse shapes outperform the truncated Gaussian monocycle in the BER performance of binary TH-PPM systems for the same pulse durations. The POCS technique provides an effective method for designing UWB pulse shapes in terms of its inherent design flexibility and joint optimization capability.

  • High efficiency switching mode circuits such as class I amplifiers have been well known in the MHz frequency range. The class E amplifier is a type of switching mode amplifier offering very high efficiency approaching 100%. In this paper, the class E amplifier has been designed by using the harmonic balance method of circuit simulator. The designed amplifier is realized by using pHEMT and microstrip line, shows 66% power added efficiency (PAE) at 2.4GHz with 17.6dBm output power. With -3dBm input power of wireless LAN, measured output spec01m can meet the required IEEE 802.11g standard spectrum mask. That means the required amplifier back off of 9dB from $P_{ldB}$ to satisfy the required wireless LAN spectrum mask.

  • In this paper. we propose an effective mask estimation scheme for missing-feature reconstruction in order to achieve robust speech recognition under unknown noise environments. In the previous work. colored noise is used for training the mask classifer, which is generated from the entire frequency Partitioned signals. However it gives a limited performance under the restricted number of training database. To reflect the spectral events of more various background noise and improve the performance simultaneously. a new Bayesian classifier for mask estimation is proposed, which works independent of other frequency bands. In the proposed method, we employ the colored noise which is obtained by combining colored noises generated from each frequency band in order to reflect more various noise environments and mitigate the 'sparse' database problem. Combined with the cluster-based missing-feature reconstruction. the performance of the proposed method is evaluated on a task of noisy speech recognition. The results show that the proposed method has improved performance compared to the Previous method under white noise. car noise and background music conditions.

  • This study intended to verify the effects of face masks on the Korean language in terms of acoustic, aerodynamic, and formant parameters. We chose all types of face masks available in Korea based on filter performance and folding type. Two professional voice actors (a male and a female) with more than 20 years of experience who are native Koreans and speak standard Korean participated in this study as speakers of voice data. Face masks attenuated the high-frequency range, resulting in decreased Vowel Space Area (VSA) and Vowel Articulation Index (VAI)scores and an increased Low-to-High spectral ratio (L/H ratio) in all voice samples. This can result in lower speech intelligibility. However, the degree of increment and decrement was based on the voice characteristics. For female speakers, the Speech Level (SL) and Cepstral Peak Prominence (CPP) increased with increasing face mask thickness. In this study, the presence or filter performance of a face mask was found to affect speech acoustic parameters according to the speech characteristics. Face masks provoked vocal effort when the vocal intensity was not sufficiently strong, or the environment had less reverberance. Further research needs to be conducted on the vocal efforts induced by face masks to overcome acoustic modifications when wearing masks.

  • When we use Hadamard transform spectrometers (HTS), we can increase signal to noise ratio(SNR) by multiplexing which is done by masks. But if the mask has a single defective element, output-SNR decreases. In this paper the effect of a single defective element on the output-SNR is investigated. And a method of compensating for the defective mask element is presented.
