For virtual education, the multimodal learning environment with haptic feedback, termed 'immersive textbook', is necessary to enhance the learning effectiveness. However, the learning contents for immersive textbook are not widely available due to the constraints in creation and playback environments. To address this problem, we propose a framework for producing and displaying the multimodal contents for immersive textbook. Our framework provides an XML-based meta-language to produce the multimodal learning contents in the form of intuitive script. Thus it can help the user, without any prior knowledge of multimodal interactions, produce his or her own learning contents. The contents are then interpreted by script engine and delivered to the user by visual and haptic rendering loops. Also we implemented a prototype based on the aforementioned proposals and performed user evaluation to verify the validity of our framework.

In this study, the architecture of the Web Camera System for realtime monitoring on Internet is proposed and implemented in two different structures. In the one architecture, a Web-server and a Camera-server are implemented on the same system, and the system transfers motion pictures compressed to JPEG file to users on the WWW(World Wide Web). In the other architecture, the Web-server and the Camera-server are implemented on different systems, and the motion pictures are transferred from the Camera-server to the Web-server, and finally to users. For JPEG image transferring in the Web Camera system, the Java Applet and the Java Script are used to maximize flexibility of the system from the Operating system and the Web browsers. In order to compare system performance between two architectures, data traffic is measured and simulated in the unit of byte per second.

For the activation and wide distribution of User Created Contents (UCC) sites have diversified user-created possibilities. Among these contents, User Created Game (UCG) sites are places where users can create and share their game contents with others. The method of UCG development can be classified into two categories according to the uses' level of professionalism. First, the method of using the authoring tools is suggested for those unfamiliar with the development or creation of contents. Although the authoring tool is easy to use, there are many functional limitations. Second, development using program languages is suggested for trained advanced users but has the limitation of a prolonged development period. This paper proposes a new method, generating the script which will expand the current functional limitations entailed behind the authoring tools used by first time and less trained users. In order to verify the proposed method in a real UCG development environment, a framework encompassing GUI, script generating function and program source generating function were constructed.

Smart Farm, which combines information and communication technologies with agriculture is moving from simple monitoring of the growth environment toward discovering the optimal environment for crop growth and in the form of self-regulating agriculture. To this end, it is important to collect related data, but it is more important for farmers with cultivation know-how to analyze the collected data from various perspectives and derive useful information for regulating the crop growth environment. In this study, we developed a web service that allows farmers who want to obtain necessary information with data related to crop growth to easily analyze data. Web-based data analysis serivice developed uses R language for data analysis and Express web application framework for Node.js. As a result of applying the developed data analysis service together with the growth environment monitoring system in operation, we could perform data analysis what we want just by uploading a CSV file or by entering raw data directly. We confirmed that a service provider could provid various data analysis services easily and could add a new data analysis service by newly adding R script.

Language models are essential in predicting the next word in a spoken sentence, thereby enhancing the speech recognition accuracy, among other things. However, spoken language domains are too numerous, and therefore developers suffer from the lack of corpora with sufficient sizes. This paper proposes a method of combining two n-gram language models, one constructed from a very small corpus of the right domain of interest, the other constructed from a large but less adequate corpus, resulting in a significantly enhanced language model. This method is based on the observation that a small corpus from the right domain has high quality n-grams but has serious sparseness problem, while a large corpus from a different domain has more n-gram statistics but incorrectly biased. With our approach, two n-gram statistics are combined by extending the idea of Katz's backoff and therefore is called a dual-source backoff. We ran experiments with 3-gram language models constructed from newspaper corpora of several million to tens of million words together with models from smaller broadcast news corpora. The target domain was broadcast news. We obtained significant improvement (30%) by incorporating a small corpus around one thirtieth size of the newspaper corpus.

In this paper, I proposed new system that a user makes modeling 3D symmetric pottery using mouse and can confirm the result immediately in internet browser. The main advantage of proposed system is that users who have no specialized knowledge about 3D graphic can easily create 3D objects. And a user can use it that has only PC connected network and mouse without additional devices as like expensive haptic and camera device. For developing proposed system, VRML/X3D that is International Standard language for virtual reality and 3D graphics was used. Because it was born based on internet that is different from other 3D graphic languages, it was able to interact and navigate with users. With those features and high completeness of 3D pottery realization using mouse considered, the system may be useful and is superior in performance to other pottery modeling system.

Ajax based on Java Script receives attention as an alternative to ActiveX technology. Most portal sites in korea show a tendency to reopen existing services by combining the technology, because it supports most web browsers, and has the advantages of such a brilliant interface, excellent speed, and traffic reduction through asynchronous interaction. This paper modeled and implemented a multilingual meta-search service using the Ajax and open APIs provided by international famous sites. First, a Korean query is translated into one of the language of 54 countries around the world by Google translation API, and then the translated result is used to search the information of the social web sites such as Flickr, Youtube, Daum, and Naver. Searched results are displayed fast by dynamic loading of portion of the screen using Ajax. Our system can reduce server traffic and per-packet communications charges by preventing redundant transmission of unnecessary information.

This paper will intend to contribute to extracting and storing various form of information on user interests by using structural rules user makes and XML-based word document converting techniques. The system named PPE consists of three essential element. One is converting element which converts word documents like HWP, DOC into XML documents, another is extracting element to prepare structural rules and extract concerned information from XML document by structural rules, and the other is storing element to make final XML document or store it into database system. For word document converting, we developed OCX based word converting daemon. Helping user to extracting information, we developed script language having native function/variable processing engine extended from XSLT. This system can be used in the area of constructing word document contents DB or providing various information service based on RAW word documents. We really applied it to project management system and project result management system.

There has been many studies to explore what is the best multimedia tools for English learning by internet, but the students are still thirsty for the lack of practical and effective learning method which may lead them to stimulate their motivations to learn English with technological new media. The purpose of this study is to design Flash Animation as a new approach to learn language acquisition for those students who are learning English as a second language. This second is to show the validity for the introduction of Flash Animation into the English class. The third is to describe the effectiveness of the application of multimedia tools used in English communication such as java script programming and power point presentation.

This paper describes the data model and software development of XWS, an XWEET Web-wrapper System for generation wrapper program. To access information from various information sources, one has to convert and integrate source data into the same data model. XWS is developed as a part of XWEET project. We have implemented the XWS system using the Perl programming language stressing efficiency and ease-of-use. XWS has a few distinct features. First, data model and operator used for extracting information from HTML support a unified model of different views of HTML document. Second, it provides a user-friendly interface program to enable wrapper programmer to generate wrapper easily Third, XWS use the high-level script language designed by object-oriented methodology. In this paper, we also present the detail demonstration where it is useful for extracting article information from DBLP site.
