  • Interest in smart cities is growing; information and communication technology, urban planning, urban economy development, health, and many other areas are intertwined within smart city research and practice. The definition of smart city is evolving, and its vagueness is sometimes confusing. This review of the smart city literature tries to capture the big picture of this big idea. This review places into context work done since 2016, as earlier work is well reviewed in Albino (2015) and Cochia (2014). First is a review of the various smart city definitions. Second, an inventory of terms related to or subsumed by the smart city label are presented. Third, outcomes of indexes created to measure a city's smartness are presented. Fourth, the taxonomies used to organize the disparate content that falls under the smart city umbrella are discussed. Fifth, the most recent literature associated with six commonly recognized subgenres, namely smart economy, smart governance, smart living, smart people, smart environment, and smart mobility are reviewed. Sixth, important critiques of the smart city idea are presented.

  • Smart sensing plays a key role in a variety of IoT applications, and its importance is growing more and more together with the development of artificial intelligence. Therefore the importance of smart sensors cannot be overemphasized. However, most studies related to smart sensors have been focusing on specific application purposes, for example, security, energy saving, monitoring, and there are not much effort on researches on how to efficiently configure various types of smart sensors to be needed in the future. In this paper, a component-based framework with hierarchical structure for efficient construction of smart sensor is proposed and its application to smart home is designed and implemented. The proposed method shows that various types of smart sensors to be appeared in the near future can be configured through the design and development of necessary components within the proposed software framework. In addition, since it has a layered architecture, the configuration of the smart sensor can be expanded by inserting the internal or external layers. In particular, it is possible to independently design the internal and external modules when designing an IoT application service through connection with the external device layer. A small-scale smart home system is designed and implemented using the proposed method, and a home cloud operating as an external layer, is further designed to accommodate and manage multiple smart homes. By developing and thus adding the components of each layer, it will be possible to efficiently extend the range of applications such as smart cars, smart buildings, smart factories an so on.

  • Smartphone is a mobile device which can perform better than feature phone. Recently, growth in demand for advanced mobile devices boasting powerful performance, market share of smartphone is increasing rapidly in mobile device market, for example, iphone and android phone. Smartphone can provide many functionalities, e-mail, scheduler, word-processing, 3D-game, and etc, based on its powerful performance. Thus, various secret information is integrated in smartphone. To provide service, sometimes, smartphone transmits informations to outside via wireless network. Because smartphone is a mobile device, user can lose his/her smartphone, easily, and losing smartphone can cause serious security threats, because of integrated information in smartphone. Also data which is transmitted in wireless network can be protected for privacy. Thus, in present, it is very important to keep secure smartphone. In this paper, we analyze threats and vulnerabilities of smartphone based on its environments and describe countermeasures against threats and vulnerabilities.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of undergraduates' smart phone addiction on their development of sociality. According to the results of positive analysis, if smart phone addiction gets more serious, sociality becomes lower. More concretely, smart phone addiction consists of its subareas: difficulties in daily living, pursuing experience in the virtual world, withdrawal, and tolerance. Sociality has its subareas as confidence, sociability, and interpersonal relationship. If difficulties in daily living and tolerance become increased, confidence gets lower. In addition, as pursuing experience in the virtual world and withdrawal become increased, sociability gets lower. Regarding the dispositions of smart phone addiction in groups subdivided by sex, men are more apt to be addicted than women. Recently, smart phone use has been tremendously increased, and issues regarding addiction to it have been raised as problems in society. Therefore, it will be needed to discuss solutions for more reasonable use in society in order to prevent smart phone addiction.

  • This study analyzed the impact of smartphone usage on walking speed during walking on two pedestrian walkways in Daejeon Metropolitan City. For the analysis, the video data about the actual use of smartphone was acquired and the walking speed was calculated based on the walking density of the pedestrian Level Of Service(LOS) presented in the Road Capacity Manual. Multiple regression analysis and decision tree using machine learning were used to analyze the impact of smartphone usage on walking speed, and as the explanatory variables, gender, disable smartphone, use of smartphone using auditory function, use of smartphone using visual function, LOS A, LOS B, LOS C were adopted. The result showed that LOS C had the highest impact on walking speed change and the women's group using their visual function was founded to have the slowest walking speed in LOS C. In particular, the author found that walking speed significantly decreased in the case of use of visual function rather than listening to music or the hearing on the phone.

  • Even though DOT (Directly Observed Treatment) is the most definite method for the patients who need a long-term medication, its implementation is almost impossible considering the manpower and economic cost for it. The smart medication management and monitoring system that has appeared as an alternative requires a device for its implementation. In this paper, we propose so-called a smart pillbox for the smart medication management and monitoring system and the multi-user authentication scheme for sharing the smart pillbox among the patients. Through the smart pillbox and the multi-user authentication scheme, it is expected that the recovery rate would be raised by enabling the patients to take medicine in both timely and correct manner.

  • Digital convergence means a service or new product which appeared through fusion of unit technologies in information and communication regions. In 2011, The Government introduced "IT Convergence Technology Prediction Survey 2025". Smart mobility is a main factor in smart city which is main example of convergence. A intelligent transport system(ITS) is a key factor of smart mobility. The conventional transport systems include road, car, signal systems. But the ITS is a transport system containing additional technologies such as electronics, control, communication to increase traffic safety and effectiveness of traffic facilities. In this paper, we described intelligent transport system related with our life.

  • PCs and its peripherals uses more power in standby mode even if they are not actually being used. In particular, PCs and its peripherals used in school and office, plugged in at all times during working hours, but not used much time, even if turned off consume a portion of the power. In this paper, we developed Networked Smart Plug for Power Management of PC & Peripherals which is consist of EMS, Smart Plug, PC Agent and Smart Phone App. for power saving of PC and a variety of peripheral devices in office or home, and evaluated the performance of the system.

  • Awareness that smartphones can be used as tools for criminal activity is prevalent in many organizations, but the functionally smartphone-like smartwatch's potential as a criminal tool is being overlooked. Considering this situation, this research verifies the possibility of information leakage through an insider's smartwatch in a situation where smartphones are controlled by security regulations and technologies, but smart watch are not. By analyzing information related application usage and Wi-Fi connection generated in the smartwatch during the verification process, forensic information and limitations are identified. Finally, this research proposes preventive methods to prepare for potential smartwatch-related crimes, and reconsiders awareness of the possibility of using smartwatches as criminal tools.

  • With the advent of smart phones in 2007, smart phones have been used as not only communication device but also important education tools. In this paper, we have developed a smart phone application and its management system for the interaction in the class. The interaction between a teacher and students are important in some large classes. The smart phone application we developed removed the restrictions of interactions in a large class and reduced time need for the interactions. We found that education effects were enhanced, and the time needed for the interaction was reduced.
