  • As smart grid techniques developed, public attention is concentrating on energy efficiency. So it is necessary to study on new renewable energy in order to manage the energy within micro grid consisting smart grid. Among them, small hydro energy has the advantage of being installable anywhere depending the amount of water used by the users within micro grid. This study examines if the measured value is appropriate for small hydro power generation by measuring generation quantity and operation rate of generator based on the sewage flow used by apartments and multi-unit dwellings where those users live. Some appropriate apartments and multi-unit dwellings generate electricity with small hydro generator using sewage as potential energy. This study intends to suggest more effective management by introducing energy management system and electricity storage device of micro grid.

  • Research and development of energy self-consumption introducing photovoltaic and energy storage system at home is very active. This system can manage the home energy in which it charges the electricity generated during the day and uses it during high electricity bills. However, it not yet made up the residential real-time pricing in Korea but it can reduce electricity usage to a certain target on the progressive. In order to introduce the home photovoltaic, it requires PCS(Power Conditioning System). This converts the direct current into alternating current by the electricity generated and used to perform charging and discharging of the energy storage system. The market for self-consumption smart home system is currently increasing because the interests of the general public about solar power, energy storage systems increased. The result of this study is installed on the room environment and the effect was analyzed on the assumption of real-time pricing.

  • Recently, energy resource management is a major concern around the world. Energy management activities minimize environmental impacts of the energy production. This paper presents design and prototyping of a home electric energy monitoring system that provides residential consumers with real time information about their electricity use. The developed system is composed of an in-house sensing system and a server system. The in-home sensing system is a set of wireless smart plug which have an AC power socket, a relay to switch the socket ON/OFF, a CT sensor to sense current of load appliance and a Kmote. The Kmote is a wireless communication interface based on TinyOS. Each sensing node sends its detection signal to a home gateway via wireless link. The home gateway stores the received signals into a remote database. The server system is composed of a database server and a web server, which provides web-based monitoring system to residential consumers. We analyzed and presented energy consumption data from electrical appliances for 3 months in home. The experimental results show the promising possibilities to estimate the energy consumption patterns and the current status.

  • Smart grid system has been deployed fast despite of legal, business and technology problems in many countries. One important problem in deploying the smart grid system is to protect private smart meter readings from the unbelievable parties while the major smart meter functions are untouched. Privacy-preserving involves some challenges such as hardware limitations, secure cryptographic schemes and secure signal processing. In this paper, we focused particularly on the smart meter reading aggregation, which is the major research field in the smart meter privacy-preserving. We suggest a noisy weighted aggregation scheme to guarantee differential privacy. The noisy weighted values are generated in such a way that their product is one and are used for making the veiled measurements. In case that a Diffie-Hellman generator is applied to obtain the noisy weighted values, the noisy values are transformed in such a way that their sum is zero. The advantage of Diffie and Hellman group is usually to use 512 bits. Thus, compared to Paillier cryptosystem series which relies on very large key sizes, a significant performance can be obtained.

  • Smart grid technology can expand energy efficiency into the home by monitoring consumer energy usage in real time and communicating with household devices that respond to demands to shut off during periods of non-use, allowing individual consumers to control their electricity usage more effectively. But, the information collected on a smart grid will form a library of personal information, the mishandling of which could be highly invasive of consumer privacy. There will be major concerns if consumer-focused principles of transparency and control are not treated as essential design principles from beginning to end. In this paper, using. All-Or-Nothing Transform encryption mode for providing smart grid security, we propose efficient distributed data Management based on XOR operation. The contribution of this paper is to provide a secure algorithm that manages efficiently distributed data in the field of private data in smart grid environment.

  • Smart grid is a modernized electrical grid that uses information and communication technologies to gather and act on information, such as information about the behaviors of suppliers and consumers, in an automated fashion to improve the efficiency, reliability, economics, and sustainability of the production and distribution of electricity. However, with the advent of cyber crime, there are also concerns on the security of the infrastructure, primarily that involving communications technologies. In this work, we make an in-depth investigation on the issue of security services and network loads on Smart grid. Through simulation, we analyze the relations between security services and network loads. The experimental results of this study will contribute toward designing an advanced Smart grid system that offers better quality of services. Also, the approach proposed in this study can be utilized to derive new and valuable insights in security aspects.

  • This paper presents the vibration control performance of the smart passive control system to suppress the undesired vibration of the structure subjected to the earthquake loadings. Smart passive control system is the MR damper-based control system augmented with electromagnetic induction(EMI) device which consists of permanent magnets and solenoid coils. According to the Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction, an EMI device produces electrical energy from the mechanical energy due to the reciprocal motions of the structure and provide it to the MR damper. The smart passive control system can be the simple and easy to implement and maintain control system by replacing the feedback control system including sensors, controllers and external power sources of the conventional MR damper-based semiactive control system with the EMI device. The control performance of the smart passive control system is evaluated through the set of shaking table test considering the various historical earthquake loadings.

  • Control of shape/volume, mechanical, optical, electrical, and chemical switching of materials by external stimuli such as light, temperature, pH, electric field, and pressure has attracted great attention. Among these materials, photo-responsive materials containing photochromic compounds such as azobenzene, spiropyran, and cinnamic acid groups have been the subject of intense interest in recent years. In this review, we describe the recent progress in the area of azobenzene containing polymer materials that can convert light energy into mechanical energy directly. Especially we focus our attention on light-driven actuators such as artificial muscle, motor, and valve. We summarize the photomechanical effects in liquid crystal elastomer, amorphous polymer, monolayer, and supramolecules containing azobenzene, respectively.

  • In this study, international standardization trend of smart mining technology was analyzed focusing on the guidelines developed by GMG (Global Mining Guidelines Group). GMG is a non-profit organization that unites the global mining community. It was established to promote mining safety, innovation and sustainability. Currently, GMG's working group consists of artificial intelligence, asset management, autonomous mining, cybersecurity, data access and usage/interoperability, the electric mine, mineral processing, underground mining, and sustainability. Guideline development projects related to smart mining technology are being conducted in artificial intelligence, autonomous mining, cybersecurity, data access and usage/interoperability, and underground mining. As of April 2022, eight types of smart mining-related guidelines have been published through pre-launch, launch, guideline definition, contents generation, technical editing/layout/final review, and voting process. It is judged that the GMG guidelines can be an important reference for the development of domestic smart mining technology standards.
