Analysis for Teaching and Learning Methods in K-12 Smart Education (초.중.고에서의 스마트교육 교수.학습 유형 분석)

  • There is an increasing discussion about new teaching and learning methods in smart education environment due to the dissemination of smart devices. In this trend, in order to understand the smart education system, this study analyzed the domestic and foreign cases in K-12 smart education based on CTLA (Creation Teaching Learning Assessment) model through access to educational contents, environments, methods, and its curriculums. The teaching and learning methods in smart education are analyzed in foreign cases, domestic cases, and teaching-learning models presenting the positive part of the currently being implemented smart education and the further research for its improvement. Accordingly this study contributes to the specific formulation and successful realization of smart education.

Design of an Instructional Model for Global Learning in Smart Education Environments (스마트교육 환경에서 글로벌 학습을 위한 수업 모형 설계)

  • As exchanges and cooperation of political, economic, social, and cultural aspects among nations are recently vigorous, recognition of the global world has increased. In order to nurture the right talent in this era of globalization, transition into appropriate education for the global age beyond the state centered curriculum is required. Due to the recent explosive spread of smart devices, a new educational paradigm of smart training has emerged. Global learning can be effectively supported in the smart educational environment that entails brisk interactions, active participation and cooperation in a highly connected society. In this research, we suggest an instructional model for effectively supporting global learning in smart learning environments.

A Study on Smartphone Use by Korean Adult ELT Learners (한국 성인 영어 학습자의 스마트폰 활용 연구)

  • Recently, the number of Koreans who use smartphones has increased drastically; many use smartphones to learn English. In this study, one hundred Korean adult ELT (English language teaching) learners were surveyed to investigate their use of smartphones and factors influencing such use. For comparison, sixty-two students of a Korean cyber university were surveyed; these students were able to study using their smartphones in a smart campus environment. The research results showed that both groups positively used smartphones frequently, and that many intended to continue using them. With regard to ELT, both groups intended to learn English using their smartphones. Furthermore, they preferred certain types of ELT content: thirty-minute or less learning sessions, receptive English skills that focused on listening and reading, and short units of framed language items such as pronunciation and vocabulary. However, few of the respondents in both groups installed ELT apps on their smartphones, and few of the ELT apps satisfied them. The cyber university students responded similarly about smartphone use, although their responses regarding smartphone use for ELT purposes were less positive. These results indicate that the goal of cyber universities in achieving optimum learning outcomes through smart learning and the smart campus has not yet been realized.

Effects of Modality and Smart Device on Learner's Interaction Experience in Online Learning (스마트 기기를 활용한 온라인 토론학습에서 모달리티가 학습자의 상호작용경험에 미치는 영향)

  • Along with the rapid diffusion of smart devices, smart learning has been taking place as a main pedagogy in education. Under these drastic changing circumstances, social presence and interaction between learners have been highlighted as key factors in educational research. In this light of rising importance, this study examined the effects of modality and smart device on users' perceived social presence and interaction experience in a smart learning environment. It conducted 2(text based interface vs. audio/video based interface) by 2(smartphone vs. tablet PC) between-subjects experiment. 80 participants were systematically recruited and randomly assigned to four conditions. The findings showed that social presence was higher in audio/video based interface condition than in text based interface condition. Modality also had a positive effect on learner's interaction experience. On the other hand, the effect of smart device is found to be statistically insignificant. Instead, interaction effect existed between modality and device on social presence. The result of this study suggests that the modality and characteristics of device should be considered seriously when designing interface of smart learning contents. The findings in this study provide future studies with heuristic implications by highlighting users' perceived cognition and experience.

Designing an Instructional Model for Smart Technology-Enhanced Team-Based Learning (스마트 테크놀로지를 활용한 팀 기반 학습 모형 설계 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to explore and develop a new instructional approach to a technology-enhanced, collaborative learning environment called Smart technology-enhanced Team-Based Learning (S-TBL). We designed a novel instructional model that combines mobile technology, collaborative teamwork, a problem-solving process, and a variety of evaluation techniques from the viewpoint of a conventional team-based model. Based on the traditional TBL model, we have integrated smart learning technologies: 1) to provide a holistic learning environment that integrates learning resources, assessment tools, and problem solving spaces; and 2) to enhance collaboration and communication between team members and between an instructor and his or her students. The S-TBL instructional approach combines: 1) individual learning and collaborative team learning; 2) conceptual learning and problem-solving & critical thinking; 3) both individual and group assessment; 4) self-directed learning and teacher-led instruction; and 5) personal reflection and publication.

A Framework for Developing Learning Activities for Smart Education and an Instructional Model (스마트 학습활동 개발 프레임워크와 수업모형 개발 사례)

  • Smart education is defined as creating new values through connecting educational elements based on smart devices and infrastructure. In the study, we propose a theoretical and procedural framework for developing smart learning activities, which is considered characteristic of smart education, as well as environments in smart schools of Sejong Special Autonomous city. In addition, we discuss an instructional model developed from the framework. A smart learning activity as a basic unit in instruction is represented as a block when design and instruction focuses on smart learning activities. The block consists of components from learning activities, motivation, information activities, and tools when a teacher has smart learning ideas. Based on the theoretical and procedural framework, the thought-sharing model (i.e., that learners share ideas and opinions with classmates, review classmates' work, and enhance their own work) is an instructional model that leads to smart education. We discuss considerations for developing instructional models using the framework.

  • Flow is an optimal psychological state that people experience when engaged in an activity that is both appropriately challenging to one's skill level, often resulting in immersion and concentrated focus on a task. Through the study model, we found that Flow can result in deep learning and high levels of learning performance.

  • 실 환경 로봇에 강화학습을 적용하기 위해서는 가상 환경 시뮬레이션이 필요하다. 그러나 가상 환경을 구축하는 플랫폼은 모두 다르고, 학습 알고리즘의 구현에 따른 성능 편차가 크다는 문제점이 있다. 또한 학습을 적용하고자 하는 대상이 실세계의 하드웨어 사양이 낮은 스마트 로봇인 경우, 계산량이 많은 학습 알고리즘을 적용하기는 쉽지 않다. 본 연구는 해당 문제를 해결하기 위해 Unity3D에서 제공하는 강화학습 프레임인 ML-Agents 모듈을 사용하여 실 환경의 저사양 스마트 로봇에 장애물을 회피하고 탐색하는 모델의 강화학습을 적용해본다. 본 연구의 유의점은 가상 환경과 실 환경의 유사함과 일정량의 노이즈 발생 처리이다. 로봇의 간단한 행동은 원만하게 학습 및 적용가능함을 확인할 수 있었다.

Impact of Learner's Academic Achievement and Learning Attitude in Cooperative Learning Environment Using Smart Devices (스마트기기를 이용한 협동학습이 학업 성취도와 학습태도에 미치는 영향)

  • To discover an up-to-date way of learning through smart devices, our research studied the impact of Web 2.0 learning environment using smart devices on learner's academic achievement and learning attitude. We performed an experiment during 7 weeks based on elementary school 5th grade Society curriculum and the results were analyzed. Followings are the summary of results: The experimental group obtained higher academic achievement and also showed more improvements in self-directed learning attitude than the control group. Therefore, the usage of smart devices in Web 2.0 environment has positive effects on the academic achievement of students and their self-directed learning attitude within collaborate learning courses.

  • 본 연구의 목적은 학습자 중심의 스마트 교육을 위한 융복합 학습 콘텐츠의 개발요소와 개별화되고 맞춤화 된 창의적인 교육콘텐츠 개발방안을 분석하는 것에 있다. 스마트교육환경에 적합한 어플리케이션의 개발방안은 전통적인 교수 학습 모델과 유기적으로 연계되어야 하며 학습을 위한 검색기능, 학습 자료를 추출하는 조사도구기능, 협력활동을 지원하는 기능, 문서저작기능, 심화학습을 위한 기능을 구현해야 한다. 향후 교육환경은 클라우드 교육서비스를 기반으로 네트워킹을 통한 국내외 학습자원의 지원과 협력학습 인프라를 통해 언제 어디서나 학습이 이루어지는 학습 선택권을 중심으로 이루어질 것이다.
