A study on the grinding characteristics of the workpiece using the laminated grinding wheel in the cylindrical grinding process (적층연삭숫돌을 사용한 원통연삭 공정에서 가공특성에 관한 연구)

  • To get smoother ground surface, it is required to replace the grinding wheel with a finer-grit wheel. When the operator replaces the grinding wheel, the balancing and dressing of the wheel surface are necessary. So this replacement has a lot of problems like inconvenience to operators, delays in the operation time, and ineffectiveness in the production process. Therefore, a laminated grinding wheel, which consists of three layers, is provided. The side layers are coarse grits and the middle layer is made up of fine grits. To show the effectiveness of the laminated grinding wheel, experiments on the surface roughness and the material removal rate were performed respectively. As a result, it was found that the grinding process using a laminated grinding wheel can generate smoother ground surface in shorter time.

  • 본고에서는 고정도 제품을 생산하는 연삭기에 대해 가공물 및 연삭 공구인 연삭 숫돌을 기상에서 측정하기 위한 여러 가지 방법들을 소개하였고 일부는 적응 예를 기술하였다. 소개된 기상 측정장치들은 특히 반복 공정이 필요한 연삭 현장에서 생산성 향상을 위해 유용하게 활용될 수 있을 것으로 생각된다. 그러나 관련 연구가 지속된다면 연삭기의 작업조건 자동 설정, 연삭 상태 진단 등, 연삭기의 지능화에도 적극적으로 응용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

  • To perform the finish grinding process of ferrules which are widely used as fiber optic connectors, a high-precision centerless grinding machine is necessary. The high-precision centerless grinding machine is consisted of the hydrostatic GW and RW spindle systems, hydrostatic RW feeding mechanism, RW swivel mechanism, on-machine GW and RW dressers, and concrete-filled steel bed. In this study, the thermal characteristics of the high-precision centerless grinding machine such as the temperature distribution, temperature rise and thermal deformation, are estimated based on the virtual prototype of the grinding machine and the heat generation rates of heat sources related to the machine operation conditions. The reliability of the predicted results is demonstrated by the temperature characteristics measured from the physical prototype. Especially, the predicted and measured results show the fact that the high-precision centerless grinding machine has very stable thermal characteristics.

  • This paper deals with monitoring of grinding wheel wear in grinding process. A monitoring system is developed in which a laser scanning micrometer is used to measure the circumferential shape as well as the axial shape of grinding wheel. The monitoring system is applied to grinding machines. The experiment results show that the monitoring system is useful not only for monitoring the amount of wear in grinding wheel but also for measuring the apparent diameter of the grinding wheel.

  • This paper deals with the theoretical estimation and its experimental verification of grinding wheel wear in surface grinding process. A theoretical formulation is provided to predict the grinding wheel wear in surface grinding. To validate the theoretical prediction, the grinding wheel wear is measured by using a laser scanning micrometer. The associated surface roughness and grinding farce are also investigated both theoretically and experimentally. Through a series of simulations and experiments, it is shown that the predictions are in good agreement with the experimental results.

  • A weaving machine for texture industry uses a lot of needles and the nib of these needles is necessary to be kept with sharp edge. The re-grinding of the needle by a special purpose of the grinding wheel can be selected for achieving this aim. This study focused on the manufacture and performance assessment the special grinding wheel. A forming mold for the grinding wheel was designed and a sintering process for furnace process control was established. Manufactured wheels were tested for determining suitable grade of the wheel. The selection of optimal grinding conditions was achieved by a response surface method and a genetic algorithm.

  • An experimental study on the grinding temperature, surface roughness and Acoustic Emission(AE) signals was conducted with different shapes of wheel. The grinding characteristics for slotted shapes of wheel changed by width and helical angle, were compared with those by general one. Lower grinding temperature was obtained for 30$^{\circ}$helical angle with 10mm width and Root Mean square(RMS) values of AE signals were lower for slotted shapes rather than general one. Surface roughness characteristics of slotted shapes found to be rough but the value of roughness for 45$^{\circ}$helical angel with 6mm width, represented to similar tendency general one.

  • Since carbon fiber epoxy composite materials have excellent properties for structures due to their high specific strength, high specific modulus, high damping and low thermal expansion, the hollow shafts made of carbon fiber epoxy composites have been widely used for power transmission shafts for motor vehicles , spindles of machine tools, motor base, bearing mount for tool up and manufacturing. The molded composite machine elements are not usually accurate enough for mechanical machine elements, which require turning drilling , cutting and grinding. The experiment are surface grinding wheel GC60 to the carbon fiber epoxy composite specimen with respect to staking angle [0]nT , [45]nT, [90]nT on the CNC grinding machine. In this paper, the surface grinding characteristics of composite plate, which are surveyed experimentally and analytically with respect to the grinding force, surface roughness and wheel loading according to the variable depth of cut, wheel velocity and table feed rate are investigated.

  • In this paper, a theoretical analysis is presented on the mechanics for the side-cut grinding by electrodeposited CBN wheel of a hemispheric type. Each of the grinding force components is calculated by using the geometrical model. It is also presented that experimental results show grinding forces for grinding variable such as wheel speed, feed speed,depth of cut, and grinding wheel positions. The experimental results are found to be in good agreement with those predicted by the analytcal calculation.

  • One of the problems in the grinding process using the machining center(MC) with a small diametric wheels is machining error due to decrease of the quill diameter. In this thesis, side-cut grinding is performed with a vitrified bonded CBN wheel on the machining center to establish the basis of the grinding using MC. The grinding force and machining error are investigated experimentally for the change of the machining condition. It is possible to estimate the machining performance by the ratio of the setting depth of cut and actual depth of cut. In addition, the relation between normal grinding force and machining error is presented by the experimental formula.
