Influence of Cardiac Contraction and its Phase Angle with Coronary Blood flow on Atherosclerosis of Coronary Artery (심장의 수축운동과 관상동맥 혈류와의 위상차가 관상동맥 혈관의 동맥경화 민감성에 미치는 영향)

  • Coronary arteries are subjected to very different flow conditions compared to other arteries in systemic blood circulation. We Performed a computational fluid dynamic research to investigate influence of such flow conditions in coronary arteries on development and progress of atherosclerosis in the same. The results showed big differences in the flow field of the coronary artery compared to the abdominal and femoral arteries. The coronary artery showed higher wall shear stresses due to the small vessel diameter. On the other hand, it showed only one vortex distal to the stenosis throat during a whole pulse cycle. However. several vortices were observed in the abdominal and femoral arteries in both proximal and distal sides of the stenosis throat The wall shear stresses and extent of recirculation area were increased with impedance phase angle increasing toward more negative values. Therefore, cardiac contraction and the negative impedance phase angle as large as -110。 may induce a flow field that accelerates atherosclerosis.

  • A simple three-dimensional cubic model is applied to the formation of the Yellow Sea Cold Water Mass in Summer. We studied how the tidal mixing and the Kuroshio Water Mass affect the formation of the Yellow Sea cold Water. The tidal mixing effect is parameterized into the vertical diffusion coefficient because of the technical difficulties in the numerical model In this study, the thermal front along the coast could be formed only by the tidal mixing effect. However, the southern front of the Yellow Sea Cold Water Mass has to consider the warm Kuroshio water. the resultant shows the opposite temperature distribution in upper layer and lower layer. the center of the model is warmer in the upper layer and colder in the lower layer than the coast. The resultant circulation pattern is also reverse, clockwise circulation in the upper layer and counter-clockwise circulation in the lower layer.

  • Pipe-rack structures supporting high temperature and pressure are of great importance to ensure the safety of the operation of the plants. If some damage occurred in the pipe-rack structure, the facilities not only bring damage to the commercial property, but also result in economic losses. Specially, since pipe-rack structures are exposed to various environmental conditions, it is essential to evaluate the thermal behavior of the structure caused by environmental conditions for the appropriate design and maintenance of the pipe-rack structure. Thus, based on a selected, typical pipe-rack structure, a thermal-stress coupled analysis was conducted to evaluate the temperature distributions and thermal stresses of the structure. For this, this study accounted for the operating condition of the pipe and the effect of environmental conditions, Yeosu in South Korea and Saudi Arabia in the Middle East. The results of the study showed the need for accounting for a variance in the environmental factors to evaluate the thermal behavior of the pipe-rack structure along with the working condition of pipe.

Valuation of Ecosystem Services through Organic Carbon Distribution and Cycling in the Quercus mongolica Forest at Mt. Worak National Park (월악산 신갈나무림의 유기탄소 분포와 순환을 통한 생태계서비스 가치평가)

  • Valuation of ecosystem services through organic carbon distribution and cycling in the Quercus mongolica forest at Mt. Worak national park were investigated from May 2012 through April 2013. The amount of carbon allocated to above and below ground biomass was 81.94 and 20.53 ton C/ha. Amount of organic carbon in litter layer was 6.49 ton C/ha. Amount of organic carbon within 50 soil depth was 141.23 ton C $ha^{-1}$ $50cm-depth^{-1}$. Total amount of organic carbon in this Quercus mongolica forest was estimated to 250.19 ton C $ha^{-1}$. The estimated amount of won in this Quercus mongolica forest in terms of total organic carbon was about 5.27 million won $ha^{-1}$. The amount of carbon evolved through soil respiration was 7.31 ton C $ha^{-1}yr^{-1}$. The amount of carbon evolved through microbial respiration and root respiration was 3.58 and 3.73 ton C $ha^{-1}yr^{-1}$, respectively. The amount of organic carbon absorbed from the atmosphere of this Quercus mongolica forest was 1.61 ton C $ha^{-1}yr^{-1}$ when estimated from the difference between net primary production and microbial respiration. This amount will come to about 33,000 won $ha^{-1}yr^{-1}$ in Korean currency.

Worak National Park were investigated from January 2013 through December 2013. The amount of carbon allocated to above and below ground biomass was 32.17 and 8.04 ton C $ha^{-1}$. Amount of organic carbon in litter layer was 5.55 ton C $ha^{-1}$. Amount of organic carbon within 50cm soil depth was 58.62 ton C $ha^{-1}$ 50cm-$depth^{-1}$. Total amount of organic carbon in this Pinus densiflora forest was estimated to 104.38 ton C $ha^{-1}$. The estimated amount of won in this Pinus densiflora forest in terms of total organic carbon was about 10.44 million won $ha^{-1}$. The amount of carbon evolved through soil respiration was 4.44 ton C $ha^{-1}yr^{-1}$. The amount of carbon evolved through microbial respiration and root respiration was 2.18 and 2.27 ton C $ha^{-1}yr^{-1}$, respectively. The amount of organic carbon absorbed from the atmosphere of this Pinus densiflora forest was 0.44 ton C $ha^{-1}yr^{-1}$ when estimated from the difference between net primary production and microbial respiration. This amount will come to about 44,000 won $ha^{-1}$ in Korean currency.

Numerical Model for Spreading of Cochlodinium Bloom in the Southern Coastal Waters in Korea (한국 남해안에서 Cochlodinium적조 확산모델)

  • The spreading Cocuoainim polykikoides bloom in the southern coastal waters of Korea was simulated using numerical model including the physical processes of water flow and the chemical processes of increasing cell of C. polykikoides by uptake of dissolved nutrients. The circulation of sea water was simulated by two dimensional tide model reflecting the main four tidal components of $M_2,\;S_2,\;K_1,\;O_1$, and permanent current was driven by inflow/outflow across open boundaries. According to the result of model which tidal and permanent current were reflected simultaneously, eastward flows entering the southern waters from the western waters of Korea are dominant but westward flows are weak relatively. These result suggest that it is difficult for initial C. polykikoides bloom generated in the coastal waters of Goheung to move to the western coast of Korea through Jeju Strait. For spreading model of C. poiyhikoides, the range of generating distribution and the generating time of C. polykikoides bloom in coastal area are similar to those of observation data in the field. Wind is the most important factor in moving and distribution of red tide. Permanent current flowing eastward is also considered to be important factor and tidal current was a little influenced.

  • In this study, an experimental study on storage media for thermal energy storage system was conducted. For thermal energy storage medium, concrete has excellent thermal and mechanical properties and also has various advantages due to its low cost. In addition, the ultra-high strength concrete reinforced by steel fibers exhibits excellent durability against exposure to high temperatures due to its high toughness and high strength characteristics. Moreover, the high thermal conductivity of steel fibers has an advantageous effect on heat storage and heat dissipation. Therefore, to investigate the temperature distribution characteristics of ultra-high-strength concrete, concrete blocks were fabricated and a heating test was performed by applying high-temperature thermal cycles. The heat transfer pipe was buried in the center of the concrete block for heat transfer by heat fluid flow. In order to explore the temperature distribution characteristics according to different shapes of the heat transfer pipe, a round pipe and a longitudinal fin pipe were used. The temperature distribution at the differnent thermal cycles were analyzed, and the thermal energy and the cumulated thermal energy over time were calculated and analyzed for comparison based on test results.

  • 지표수의 유출과정을 설명하는 과정에서 중요인자이며, 생태수문학의 핵심변수이자 기상모형의 중요한 입력변수인 토양수분의 공간적 시간적 특징들은 강우 및 지하수와 토양수분간의 순환 구조를 규명하는데 매우 중요하다. 가장 널리 쓰이는 토양 수분 측정 장비인 TDR 장비 매설에 앞서 대상유역 선정에 대한 여러 가지 고려사항을 검토하고 수치지형 분석 등을 통한 사전분석을 실시하였다. 대상유역을 선정하기 위해서는 대상유역의 자료획득의 용이함, 지정학적, 시스템 운영적 측면에서의 가용성, 그리고 정밀측량 및 부수적요인 등 여러 요소의 고려가 요구된다. 청미천 유역을 대상으로 약 21 개의 대상후보사면을 정밀조사 하였으며, 충청북도 음성군 수레의산 청소련 수련원내의 산지 사면을 측정대상 사면으로, 지정학적 위치, 식생분포, 지질구조 및 심도 등의 토양특성의 고려를 통해서 선정하였다. 또한 대상 사면에 흐름 발생 및 분포를 계산하기 위해서 대상사면의 지표 및 기반암 표고를 정밀 측량하였으며, 기반암 또는 풍화대까지의 깊이를 실측하여 지표면 및 지하면의 수치지형 모형을 구축하였다. 대상사면 및 지하면에 대하여 표고수치지형모형(Digital Elevation Model:DEM)으로 도식한 후 흐름 발생 공간 분포를 계산하였다. 다양한 흐름 발생 알고리즘으로 기여사면적과 지형습윤지수를 계산하였다. 분배알고리즘의 의해 도출된 지형인자들로 인한 흐름발생 공간적 분포특성을 비교하여 센서의 매설 위치를 결정하였다. 센서 매설 위치에 대한 토양시료를 채취하여 토성을 분석한 결과는 미국 농무성 기준에 의한 분류로는 사양토로, 국제토양학회의 분류기준에 따르면 양토로 분류되었다. 대상사면의 유효입력강우를 확보하기위해서 개방공간인 수레의산 청소년수련원과 대상산림의 Canopy하부에 각각 강수측정 시스템을 설치하였고 약 6개월간 성공적으로 자료를 획득하였다.

  • 최근 기존의 전통적인 부유사채집기를 활용한 유사량 측정방법의 대안으로 지속적인 유량측정을 목적으로 활용되고 있는 횡방향 초음파도플러유속계의 초음파산란도를 활용하여 부유사농도를 측정에 대한 연구가 수행되고 있다. 하지만, 하천에서 횡방향 초음파도플러유속계를 활용한 유사량 측정 연구는 현장에서 측정된 자료를 기반으로 분석이 수행되기 때문에 통제된 유사 조건에서의 유사의 농도 및 입도분포에 대한 사전 정보를 바탕으로 정밀한 분석의 어려움이 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 안동하천실험센터 순환수로에서 균일한 입도를 가지고 있는 황토를 활용하여 주입량에 따른 초음파산란도의 변화와 동시에 측정된 LISST(laser in-situ scattering and transmissometry)의 부유사 농도와 입도 자료를 활용하여 유사공급에 따른 3Mhz의 단일 주파수를 사용하는 횡방향 초음파도플러유속계의 초음파산란도를 활용한 부유사농도 및 평균입경의 측정에 대한 연구를 수행하였다. 측정결과, 유사공급에 따라서 초음파산란도를 활용하여 부유사농도가 증가하는 경향을 나타내고 있었으며, 횡방향 초음파도플러유속계로부터 측정된 셀별 초음파산란도를 활용하여 부유사농도의 공간적인 분포의 분석이 가능함을 확인할 수 있었다. 그리고 유사감쇄계수를 활용하여 LISST로부터 측정된 평균입경과의 관계식을 개발하여 유사공급에 따른 평균입경의 변화를 측정할 수 있을 것으로 나타났다. 추후, 통제된 조건에서의 다양한 입도분포에 따른 실험을 통해 횡방향 초음파도플러유속계의 초음파산란도를 활용한 부유사농도 측정 정확도를 개선과 유사감쇄계수를 통해 평균입경을 측정하는데 활용이 될 것으로 판단된다.

  • Under the influence of non-uniform magnetic field, melt flow in steady state and oxygen concentration in unsteady state are numerically investigated. The strength of the applied characteristic magnetic fields are B=0.1T, 0.2T, and 0.3T, respectively. The buoyancy effects due to the crucible wall heating and the thermocapillary effects due to the surface tention at the free surface are suppressed differentially by the non-uniform magnetic fields. As the intensity of characteristic magnetic fields is increasing, the recirculation region in the meridional plane is moving toward the growing crystal, and is diminishing. The oxygen concentration on the growing surface of crystals is decreasing and the uniformity of the oxygen concentration is increasing as the intensity of the magnetic fields is increasing.
