Based on the observation that Korean speakers of English have difficulties in producing English fricatives, a perception experiment was designed to investigate whether Korean speakers also have difficulties perceiving English labial consonants including fricatives. Forty Korean college students were asked to perform a multiple-choice identification test. The consonant perception test consisted of nonce words which contained English labial consonants [p, b, f, v] in 4 different prosodic locations: initial onset position, intervocalic position before stress, intervocalic position after stress, and final coda position. The general perception pattern was that the mean accuracy rates were higher in strong position like CV and VCVV than in weak position like VC and VVCV. The difficulties in perceiving the English targets resulted mainly from bidirectional manner confusion between stop and fricative across all prosodic locations. The other types of misidentification were due to place confusion as well as voicing confusion. Place confusion was generated mostly by the target [f] in all prosodic position due to acoustic properties. Voicing confusion was heavily influenced by prosodic position. The misperception of the participants was accounted for by phonetic properties and/or the participants' native language properties.

This study aimed at specifically validating the mediating effect of the elderly's leisure participation with regards to the impact of socio-economic factors on the elderly's satisfaction with life. This paper analyzed the data of 7,486 people who participated in the 4th research of the 2012 Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing (KLoSa) by Korea Labor Institute. The outcome is as follows. First, among socio-economic factors, educational background, total household income and net asset were found to have positive impact on the elderly's satisfaction with life. When the level of the three factors was higher, the satisfaction with life was also greater. Second, the three socio-economic factors (educational background, total household income and net asset) affected the elderly's satisfaction with life through mediating effect of leisure participation. Those with higher educational background, total household income and net asset showed more leisure participation, leading to greater satisfaction with life.

This paper examines the effect of the amendment of the valuation method for unlisted stocks in the inheritance tax law. There were many criticisms on the valuation method of the inheritance tax law because the method is not effective in the respect of the fairness in taxation. The method in the inheritance tax law was amended four times since the year 1991. This research focused on whether these amendments increased the impartiality in taxation or not. The finding of the empirical test indicates that as the valuation method were amended, the stock prices calculated by the valuation method were closer to the real stock price. On this ground, I could conclude that the amendments were effective in decreasing the partiality in taxation. In spite of the result, considering the cycle of stock market, I found that the problem of unlisted stock valuation in the inheritance tax law. The law lacks flexibility and elasticity.

This study analyzed private pension dependency of Korea and U.S. households using the most recent dataset of two countries. For this purpose, 2013 Korean Retirement and Income Study(KReIS) of national pension research institute in Korea and 2013 SCF(Survey of Consumer Finances) of FRB in U.S. were used. The private pension dependency was defined as the proportion of private pension wealth among total financial wealth in each household and tobit model was used to investigate determinants of private pension dependency of the two countries. After controlling for other factors, household income and net worth, age, educational attainment, and health status of householder were crucial determinants of private pension dependency for both countries. Householder's age, educational attainment, and health tend to increase the private pension dependency in Korea and U.S. However, household income and net worth affected the private pension dependency opposite direction. The private pension dependency increased with high level of income and net worth in Korea, while it decreased with high level of income and net worth in U.S. Results of this study provide useful implications for future pension system and policy in Korea.
