An Analysis of Inquiry Learning Situation Using Graphing Calculator: On the Viewpoint of Mathematical Communication/Visualization (그래핑계산기를 활용한 탐구 학습 상황 분석: ‘수학적 의사소통/시각화’의 관점에서)

  • In this paper, we analyzed the qualitative data which collected from the inquiry learning situation on small group using TI-92 graphing calculator. From the analysis, we found the followings: First, TI-92 graphing calculator promote the mathematical communication between students or students and teacher on the small group inquiry learning process through it be a role of catalyzer to make opened atmosphere. Second, TI-92 graphing calculator give a chance to students to explore the advanced mathematical relations through it provide the new learning environment relate to the visual imagery.

그래핑 계산기가 고등학교 학생의 탐구에 미치는 영향

  • 이 글에서 우리는 탐구를 위해 그래핑 계산기를 사용할 때 탐구의 경험과 능력, 태도를 포함한 학생에 대한 영향을 조사하였다. 그래핑 계산기가 수학 탐구 과정의 기초를 형성한 이후에, 두 학생이 인터뷰되었고 당시 과정을 수료한 162명의 학생이 조사되었다. 결과는 그래핑 계산기가 학생의 탐구 능력을 개발하는데 유용한 도구라는 것을 보여준다. 대부분의 학생들은 그래핑 계산기에 대한 긍정적인 태도를 가졌고 그 사용에 흥미를 느꼈다.

  • This study is a basic step research for developing mathematics teacher education program using the potential power of explorative softwares for learning geometry. This study investigates the characteristics of the softwares and noteworthy points in its applying process. Analizing an impact of this softwares on the mathematics leaching and learning, this study presents the desirable direction for developing the teacher education program for mathematics teachers to be ableto teach successfully. Focusing on GSP as an to manage classrooms of the 21st century successfully. Focusing on GSP as an excellent explorative software used widely in the current mathematics classrooms, this study investigates the potential contents to be used in the teacher education program for mathematics teachers to get new kinds of experiences about the softwares and suggests implications for choosing contents and instructional methods of the program using the softwares.

  • It ill give much interest both to the teacher and student that paper crane makes interesting mathematical investment possible. It is really possible for the middle school students to invest mathematical activity such as the things about triangle and square, resemblance, Pythagorean theorem. I reserched how this mathematical investment possible through folding and unfolding paper crane and analyzed the mathematical meaning.

  • 제 7차 수학과 교육과정에서 벡터는 수학 II에서 다루며, 삼각함수, 좌표와 함께 도형의 성질을 대수적으로 탐구하는 중요한 도구이다. 본 연구에서는 벡터 개념을 이용하여 볼록 n각형의 무게중심의 성질을 탐구하고, 이를 바탕으로 '볼록 n각형에서 n개의 중선은 한 점에서 교차하며 교점은 각 중선을 (n-1):1로 나눈다'는 것을 벡터를 이용하여 증명하였다.

An Analysis of Mathematical Communication in Preliminary Application of the Revised Curriculum - Focused on 'Exploratory Activity' and 'Story Corner' in Elementary Textbooks for the First and Second Grades - (개정 교육과정의 실험 적용에서 나타나는 수학적 의사소통 분석 - 초등 1.2학년 탐구 활동과 이야기 마당을 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study was to provide useful information for teachers by analyzing mathematical communication emphasized through 'exploratory activity' and 'story corner' in elementary textbooks based on the revised curriculum. Two classrooms from the first grade and second grade respectively were observed and videotaped. Mathematical communication of each classroom was analyzed in terms of questioning, explaining, and the sources of mathematical ideas. The results showed that only one classroom focused on students' thinking processes and explored their ideas, whereas the other classrooms focused mainly on finding answer. Particularly, this tendency often appeared when implementing 'story corner' than 'exploratory activity'. The reason for this was inferred that teachers were not familiar with teaching mathematics in stories and that teachers' manual did not include concrete questions and students' expected responses. This paper included implications on how to promote mathematical communication specifically in lower grades in elementary school.

A Study on the Analysis of Inquiry Activities of Elementary Mathematics Textbook and the Development of Reorganization Materials (초등수학 교과서 탐구활동 분석 및 재구성 연구)

  • 2007 Curriculum Revision adopted new Inquiry Activities in mathematical textbooks. So it is critical to analyze the problems of actual application of Inquiry activities in the classrooms. For this purpose, we analyzed the Inquiry activities of Measurement Area of the textbooks and find the appropriate solutions. Secondly, we develop the reorganization materials to fix and solve the existing problems found in the previous problem analysis, and apply the development materials and examine the effects afterwards. The results of the survey indicated that most of teachers are well aware of the importance of Inquiry Activities. However, many teachers answered that Inquiry activities does contain neither diverse strategic approaches nor solutions accommodating with various learning levels of students. The most difficult points to educate Inquiry Activities are that it is difficult to teach students based on individual learning level and that activities consist of mainly short answers that makes it difficult to do in-depth Inquiry Activities. Analyzing Inquiry Activities in the textbook shows that Inquiry Activities in some chapters were constructed as simple sentence questions or presented with the solving process in the questions themselves. The following application classes were implemented by partially taking advantage of the newly developed reorganization materials. Then, the effects were measured by before and after questionnaires, the survey to teachers, and the results of activities. The reorganization materials were effective at arousing the curiosity from students as well as enabling the natural ability-level driven classes.

  • In this paper, we generalized number partion problems in elementary situations to number partition models that provide some mathematical problem situations for experiencing mathematising of secondary pre-service teachers. We designed substantial teaching units entitled 'the inquiry intof number partition models' through 4 steps: (1) key problems, (2) integration from the view of partition, (3) defining partition (4) a real practice of inquiry into models. This teaching unit can contribute to secondary pre-service teacher education as follows: first, This teaching unit have pre-service teachers experience mathemtising. second, This teaching unit have pre-service teachers see the connection between school mathematics and academic mathematics. third, This teaching unit have pre-service teachers foster their mathematical creativity.

  • Recently, mathematics education have been emphasized on developing students' mathematical thinking and problem solving abilities. Accordance with this emphasis, dramatical changes are needed in learning mathematics not merely let alone students solve real-made mathematics problems. The project learning to explore a counterweight activity will have an effects on positive mathematical attitude(to pose problem, to have curiosity) and mathematical thinking(power 10-digit representation, 2-digit number, two representation of 3-digit number, connect exponential number and log situation) which could develop understanding problems and critical thinking.

  • 오늘날과 같은 지식 정보화 사회는 지식과 정보를 기초로 한 사회활동이 주를 이루고 있다. 그래서 교육현장에서도 학습자는 컴퓨터를 이용하여 정보를 수집하고 처리하는 정보의 주체로 인식되어지고 있다. 특히 수학 교과 내용 중 도형 영역은 컴퓨터를 이용하여 다양한 시각적 경험과 탐구 기회를 제공하는 것이 매우 중요하다. 이를 실현하기 위한 방법으로써 여러 가지 방법이 있지만, 본 논문에서는 Sketchup이라는 상용 소프트웨어를 활용하여 도형 영역에 적용시켜 활용하는 방안에 대해 연구하였다. 학생들이 수학을 재미있고 쉽게 생각할 수 있는 방안을 내세우기란 쉽지 않지만, 이 연구의 결과로부터 수학과목의 도형영역에 대한 수학적 사고력과 성취도를 높이고 Sketchup과 같은 탐구형 소프트웨어의 효과적 활용 방안을 마련하고, 이를 통해 수학에 대한 긍정적인 인식을 마련할 수 있는 기틀이 되고자 한다.
