Understanding the belief of mathematics pre-service teachers is essential in conducting and designing the effective teacher education program. This study analyzed the mathematical belief of the elementary school pre-service teachers. The results of the study are as follows. First, persistence factor, which is the belief about solving mathematical problems, following teacher direction factor, which is the belief about mathematical studies, activity involvement factor, and interest factor, which is the belief about self-concept, showed much connection with other mathematical belief factors. Second, the stereotype factor, which is the belief about mathematics, are affecting the following teacher direction factor. The process factor, which is the belief about solving mathematical problems, are affecting the activity involvement factor. Third, as for the comparison of the mathematical beliefs according to grades, only the stereotype and usefulness factors, which are the beliefs about mathematics, and the benefit factor, which is the belief about self-concept, had statistically significant differences. Fourth, as for the comparison of the mathematical beliefs according to majors, all the mathematical beliefs except for the confidence factor and benefit factor, which is the belief about self-concept, had significant differences. Based on the results of this study, we need to establish the mathematical beliefs that the elementary school pre-service teachers should have, and prepare various measures such as education program for pre-service teachers and instruction-learning methods.

In this article we study on connecting paper 131ding activities of triangle with mathematical proof Folding median, bisector of angle, and hight of paper triangle, we from and extract some ideas that help us to proof some important theorems of plane geometry. In this study using formed ideas in the process of paper folding activities, we suggest some interesting new mathematical proofs of the following theorems: 1. three medians of triangle are intersect in a point; 2. three bisectors of interior angles of triangle are intersect in a point; 3. three heights of triangle are intersect in a point.

Concepts in mathematics have been formulated for unifying and abstractizing materials in mathematics. In this procedure, usually some developments happen by necessity as well as for their own rights, so that various interesting materials can be produced as byproducts. These byproducts can also be established by themselves mathematically, which is called byproduct mathematization (sub-mathematization). As result, mathematization and its byproduct mathematization interrelated to be developed to obtain interesting results and concepts in mathematics. In this paper, we provide explicit examples:the mathematization is the continuity of trigonometric functions, while its byproduct mathematization is various trigonometric identities. This suggestion for explaining and showing mathematization as well as its byproduct mathematization enhance students to understand trigonometric functions and their related interesting materials.
In mathematical modeling activity modeling process is usually an iterative process. When model can not be solved, the model needs to be simplified by treating some variables as constants, or by ignoring some variables. On the other hand, when the results from the model are not precise enough, the model needs to be refined by considering additional conditions. In this study we investigate the role of spreadsheet model in model refinement and modeling process. In detail, we observed that by using spreadsheet model students can solve model which can not be solved in paper-pencil environment. And so they need not go back to model simplification process but continue model refinement. By transforming mathematical model to spreadsheet model, the students can predict or explain the real word situations directly without passing the mathematical conclusions step in modeling process.
This study considers the role of Mathematics as a language and the value of reading in the mathematics class. Linking mathematics instruction to literature has become popular in recent year for variety of reason. We want to illuminate the meaning of literature-based Mathematics. We suggest the viewpoint of how to appropriately select math-related literature. The focus of this study is to suggest how to use children's literature to effectively teach mathematics. Through attention to the mathematics in literature, we motivate students and provoke students' interest for mathematics. Children's literature, what is more, helps students connect mathematical ideas to their personal experience and realize that mathematics is a spontaneous and natural expression of human minds. Literature in mathematics class provides students advanced mathematical thinking for problem solving.
There has been an increasing concern of how mathematical idea indicates and shares in a way to promote students' mathematical development. Such ideas highlighting need of the culture of mathematics classroom in mathematical education. The culture of mathematics classroom was constructed classroom social norms, sociomathematical norms, and classroom mathematical practice. This paper investigated how sociomathematical norms were constructed in two elementary mathematics classrooms by two different teachers.
This study aimed to investigate teacher learning in the context of a community. For the purpose of this study, two research questions about the kinds of teacher noticing in a community and the role of partnership were addressed. To build a learning community, a professional development project, PRIME, established partnerships with 11 high schools and one of the cluster meetings were investigated in this study. Three mentor teachers, three preservice teachers, and one university supervisor participated in the cluster meeting. For this study, the multiple data such as audio tapes of cluster meetings, observation notes, and interviews were analyzed using the analysis of narratives. The results showed that the participants engaged in different kinds of noticing of their own beliefs about teaching and learning, teacher practices, and teacher identities including noticing of students' understanding in classroom situations. The partnership played the crucial role of reinforcing relationships among teachers, assigning tasks, and creating various communities.
The purpose of the study was to investigate the aspects of analogy of high school student's thinking process revealed in the inquiry activity with synthetic division. The case study method of qualitative research was conducted with two high school 10th grade students. Structure-mapping model(SMM) of Gentner and similarity frames which were proposed by other researchers were utilized to analyze the data. Two students used analogy as a tool and they could discover synthetic division of more than 2 degrees, but they revealed different levels of mathematics discovery depending on the different degree of analogical thinking. Surface similarity in the process of inquiry activity played a vital role in analogical thinking. We asked students to explore and discover analogy based on structure similarity. Analogy based on the systematic approach made it possible to predict upper domain. Analogy based on the procedure similarity induced internalization. We could conclude that analogy has instrumental, heuristic and reflective characteristics.
