  • This study analyzed students' mathematical noticing in high school sequence classes based on students' two perceptions of sequence. Specifically, mathematical noticing was analyzed in four aspects: center of focus, focusing interaction, task features, and nature of mathematics activities, and the following results were obtained. First of all, the change pattern of central of focus could not be uniquely described by any one component among 'focusing interaction', 'task features', and 'the nature of mathematical activities'. Next, the interactions between the components of mathematical noticing were identified, and the teacher's individual feedback during small group activities influenced the formation of the center of focus. Finally, students showed two different modes of reasoning even within the same classroom, that is, focusing interaction, task features, and nature of mathematics activities that resulted in the same focus. It is hoped that this study will serve as a catalyst for more active research on students' understanding of sequence.

  • In this article we studied the role of spreadsheet in teaching function and modeling activity by some examples and students' activity performed by the six 10th graders. We especially focused the role of spreadsheet in understanding of various kinds of functions and the families of functions, and in the explanation of the given modeling problem situations. The functions of automatic copy, graphic and the cell reference of spreadsheet can be used to make students observe the causes and effects of changes of the various kind of mathematical representations of functions such as algebraic formulas, tables and graphs. Especially those functions give students a chance to identify family of functions by changing the parameters and this may lead them to the discovery of mathematical facts. In modeling activities they play a key role in the stages of the analysis of the model, explanation of the results of model and conjecture of the real world situations. As well as they make students find the rules underlying in the real world by making spreadsheet as simulation environments, which are almost impossible to make in paper and pencil environments, and give them a chance to justify their findings using mathematics.

  • The purposes of this study were to investigate pre-service mathematics teachers' perceptions of the role of cooperating teachers and teacher interactions during teaching practicum. Thirty-four pre-service mathematics teachers who finished student teaching participated in the study. The researcher collected data from various sources such as a questionnaire, interviews, and written documents. According to the results of the study, more than 50 percent of the participants showed negative responses to all of the questionnaire items on teaching activities or guidance of cooperating teachers. Cooperating teachers mainly played a role in the stage of reflection of student teacher's teaching practice, and they provided specific feedback and guidance of teaching and learning methods and contents. Cooperating teachers played roles as (mathematics) teacher educators, classroom observers, and co-teachers, but their roles as teacher educators or co-teachers should be more stressed for pre-service mathematics teachers' professional development.

  • From this research, we want to get results that have interested the difference from character of students with the motivation of the learning, confidence and habit through the activity oriented class. When teacher teach students of the learning disability with participant class and activity class, they have encouraged and have positive disposition about mathematics. Therefore teachers should try to give chance doing in mathematics class to students with learning disability.

  • This study is intended to look into the effects of children's forest math game activities on their understanding of number and space concept. To achieve this, an evaluation was carried out to 20 4-year-old children in each group - experimental group and control group - by an evaluation sheet after forest math game activities during a total of 16 sessions 4 times a week for 4 weeks. The findings are as follows. First, children's forest math game activities had an effect on their understanding of number and space concept. Second, the difference between experimental group and control group showed that the experimental group received higher evaluation in the classifying and order finding items than the control group. It was confirmed that classifying and order finding in the forest math game were factors to help children's mathematical problem-understanding abilities. This implies that their forest math game activities have a positive effect on their mathematical problem-understanding abilities. Consequently, active forest math game activities for children are needed to help them understand the concept of number in the process of classifying task objects and solving tasks in order.
