As environmental regulations such as the International Maritime Organization (IMO)'s strategy to reduce greenhouse gases(GHG) are strengthened, technology development such as eco-friendly ships and alternative fuels is expanding. As part of this, ship propulsion technology using energy reduction and wind propulsion technology is emerging, especially in shipping companies and shipbuilders. By securing wind propulsion technology and introducing empirical research into shipbuilding and shipping, a high value-added market using eco-friendly technology can be created. Moreover, by reducing the fuel consumption rate of operating ships, GHG can be reduced by 6-8%. Rotor Sail (RS) technology is to generate a hydrodynamic lift in the vertical direction of the cylinder when the circular cylinder rotates at a constant speed and passes through the fluid. This is called the Magnus effect, and this study attempted to propose a plan to increase propulsion efficiency through a numerical analysis study on turbulence flow characteristics around RS, a wind power assistance propulsion system installed on a ship. Therefore, CL and CD values according to SR and AR changes were derived as parameters that affect the aerodynamic force of the RS, and the flow characteristics around the rotor sail were compared according to EP application.

The aim of this study is to investigate a correlation between fundamental data on aerodynamic characteristics of bridge girder cross-sections, such as aerodynamic force coefficients and flutter derivatives, and their aerodynamic behaviour. The section model tests were carried out in three stages. In the first stage, seven deck configurations were studied, namely; Six 2-edge girders and one box girder. In this stage, changes in aerodynamic force coefficients due to geometrical shape of girders, incidence angle of flow, wind directions and turbulence intensities were studied by static section model tests. In the second stage, the dynamic section model tests were carried out to investigate the relativity of static coefficients to dynamic responses. And finally, the two-dimensional (lift-torsion) aerodynamic derivatives of three bridge deck configurations were investigated by dynamic section model tests. The aerodynamic derivatives can be best described as a representation of the aerodynamic damping and the aerodynamic stiffness provided by the wind for a given deck geometry. The method employed here to extract these unsteady aerodynamic properties is known as the initial displacement technique. It involves the measurement of the decay in amplitude with time of an initial displacement of the deck in heave and torsion, for various wind speeds, in smooth flow. It is suggested that the proposed aerodynamic force coefficients and flutter derivatives of bridge girder sections will be potentially useful for the aeroelastic analysis and buffeting analysis.

Computational fluid dynamics analysis was performed for the case 3 of the EFD-CFD workshop. Solvers were used for three commercial CFD codes(Star-CCM+, Fluent and CFX) and an open source CFD code(SU2). The grid were generated four types depending on the total cells using commercial grid generation code(Pointwise). Mach number of 0.4 and 0.8, 2 degree angle of attack and Mach number of 0.9, 1 degree angle of attack were calculated. Similar pressure coefficient curve and normal force coefficient were showed from the coarse grid to fine grid of four codes. But there is a difference in the drag coefficient. The position of the shock wave was predicted forward as the discretization order increased in calculations using Star-CCM+ and Fluent. The computation time to converge, Fluent, Star-CCM +, CFX are in order, and SU2 takes much time to converge.

A media-feeding (or media-transport) system is a key component in daily consumer systems such as printers, copiers and ATM's. The role of the media-transport system is to feed a medium, which is usually in the form of a thin film, to the main process in a uniform and repeatable manner. Even small slippage between the media and the feeding rollers could significantly degrade the performance of the entire system. The slippage between the medium and the feeding rollers is determined by many parameters which include the friction coefficient between the feeding rollers and the medium material, the angular velocity of the feeding rollers, and the normal force applied by feeding rollers on the medium. This paper investigates the effect of the normal force and the angular velocity of feeding rollers on the slippage of the medium. Authors have constructed a test bed for experiments, which consists of a feeding module and various measuring devices. Using regular paper as media being fed, the authors experimentally measured the slippage of the medium under various normal forces and angular velocities of driving feeding roller. Also the authors developed a novel two-dimensional simulation model for the media-transport system. The paper medium is modeled as a set of multiple rigid bodies interconnected by revolute joints and rotational springs and dampers. Simulations were executed using a multi-body dynamic analysis tool called RecurDy $n^{ⓡ}$. The slippage obtained by the simulation is compared to experimental results.ults.

The present study aims at suggesting the systematic approach to analyze the local drag components as the resistance performance characterized by the flow of the ship. In order to identify the local areas, the hull surface is decomposed into SVM (Station-Vertical Section Map) which consists of 20 stations along the longitudinal direction and 20 sections along the vertical direction (from the bottom to the waterline). Successively, on the SVM, the friction and pressure drag coefficients as the components of total drag coefficient have been analyzed for two different hull forms of Wigley and KVLCC by using CFD.
Interfacial and rheological properties of selected hydrogel formulations were studied to understand the contact-lens comfort in end use. It was concluded that protein adsorption from aqueous solution decreased monotonically with increasing surface energy (water wettability) of tested hydrogels. Also, it has revealed that friction coefficient of polydimethylsiloxane-polyvinylpyrrolidone (PDMS-PVP) was significantly larger that 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) based hydrogels. Interestingly, in artificial tear solution, friction coefficients of HEMA based hydrogels were larger than silicone hydrogels.

During the conceptual design phase of a light sport aircraft, the wind tunnel tests were conducted to investigate the static stability of newly-designed configuration. The 1/5 scale-down wind tunnel model consisted of fuselage, main wing, vertical tail and horizontal tail. The main wing and tails were able to be attached or detached from the fuselage. The aerodynamic forces and moments acting on the 6 different configurations compounding each component were measured by using the internal balance system and their static stability derivatives were derived. With these experimental data, the baseline lift and drag characteristics as well as the effects of each component to the longitudinal, directional and lateral static stability were quantitatively analyzed.

The Power Augmented Ram(PAR) effect, which blows the down stream of the propellers into the underside of the wings and hence increases the pressure between the lower surface of the wings and the sea surface, is known significantly to enhance the performance of the WIG concept by reducing the take-off and landing speeds. The aerodynamic characteristics of a 20 passenger PARWIG are investigated by wind tunnel tests with the 1/20 scale model. The efflux of the forward mounted propellers are simulated by jet flows with a blower and duct system. The lift, drag, and pitch moment of the model with various ground clearances, angles of attack and flap angles are measured for the various jet velocities, jet nozzle angles, horizontal and vertical positions of the nozzle, and the nozzle diameters. The aerodynamic characteristics of the PARWIG due to these parametric changes are compared and pertinent discussions are included. It is shown that the proper use of the PAR can increase the lift coefficient of as much as up to 4.
As a means of solving traffic congestion in the downtown of large city, the interest in urban air mobility (UAM) using electric vertical take-off landing personal aerial vehicle (eVTOL PAV) is increasing. eVTOL configurations that will be used for UAM are classified by lift-and-cruise, tilt rotors, tilt-wings, tilted-ducted fans, multicopters, depending on propulsion types. This study tries to perform preliminary conceptual design for a given mission profile using reverse engineering techniques by taking the multicopter type Airbus's CityAirbus as a basic model. Wetted area, lift to drag ratio, drag coefficients were calculated using the OpenVSP which is an aerodynamic analysis software. The power required for each mission section of CityAirbus were calculated, and the corresponding battery and motor were selected. Also, total weight was predicted by estimating component weights of eVTOL.

Large eddy simulations of transitional flows around a stud installed on a flat plate have been performed to investigate an influence of grid resolution on turbulence stimulation by the stud. Because streamwise vortical structures generated by the stud played an important role in turbulence stimulation of boundary layer, streamwise vorticity was compared in the wake region behind the stud when the number of grids increased or decreased by a ratio of ${\sqrt{2}}$ in streamwise, wall-normal and spanwise directions respectively. The streamwise vorticity was shown to be mainly affected by spanwise grid resolution (${\Delta}z^+$) rather than streamwise and wall-normal grid resolution. In a viewpoint of numerical efficiency as well as physical resolution, ${\Delta}x^+{_{min}}=7.6$, ${\Delta}x^+{_{max}}=41$, ${\Delta}y^+{_{wall}}=0.25$ and ${\Delta}z^+=7.6$ was found to be desirable. Once a grid resolution was determined in each direction, a grid verification was carried out by increasing or decreasing the grid resolution y a ratio of ${\sqrt{2}}$ in all directions. The grid uncertainties of pressure and drag coefficients were 21.6 % and 2.8 % while the corrected uncertainties were 2 % and 0.3 %, respectively.
