A double rotation C-scanning system and a software program Under-Sodium MultiVIEW have been developed for the under-sodium viewing of a reactor core and in-vessel structures of a sodium-cooled fast reactor KALIMER-600. Double rotation C-scanning system has been designed and manufactured by the reproduction of double rotation plug of a reactor head in KALIMER-600. Hardware system which consists of a double rotating scanner, ultrasonic waveguide sensors, a high power ultrasonic pulser-receiver, a scanner driving module and a multi channel A/D board have been constructed. The functions of scanner control, image mapping and signal processing of Under-Sodium MultiVIEW program have been implemented by using a LabVIEW graphical programming language. The performance of Under-Sodium MultiVIEW program was verified by a double rotation C-scanning test in water.

Since the underwater telephone was sold in a short time, there are few repair equipments. And equipment is difficult to locate fault. Equipment with transducers must be inspected underwater, and a relative naval vessels is required to perform an operational check. So we developed a tester device to test the transmission card through the spectrum and transmission power, and to develop a device that can conduct operational tests on land. Therefore, the development of the tester reduces the incidence of naval vessels and contributes to the development of domestic underwater communication test equipment.
Multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were modified with a water soluble polymer, poly(vinyl alcohol), PVA, using a simple ultrasonic wave in water. Under the irradiation of ultrasound, PVA chains were severed as macroradicals and instantly grafted onto the surface of MWCNTs due to the radical scavenging effect of MWCNTs. To control the grafting PVA onto MWCNTs, the ultrasonication power and irradiation time were changed from 300 to 500 W and from 10 to 50 min, respectively. The grafted PVA onto MWCNTs was confirmed by FTIR, TGA, SEM, and TEM. Dispersion stability of the modified MWCNTs was monitored by Turbiscan. The amount of grafted PVA on MWCNTs increased with the increase in the sonication power and irradiation time. The grafted PVA on MWCNTs induced the improved dispersion stability of the modified MWCNTs in water. These findings exhibit that ultrasound can be readily used for the grafting polymer chains on MWCNTs.

Ultrasound system is one of the complex wireless signal processing systems that are widely used in the fields of modern industry such as medical diagnostics, underwater communications, and sensor-networks. Miniaturization of ultrasound system has been raging recently. In this paper, a hybrid LNA that is suitable for miniaturization and mobile diagnostic ultrasound system has been developed. The proposed LNA has low noise figure of less than 5dB, and the feedback resistor is designed to be electrically adjusted in order to attain the impedance-matching for various ultrasound transducers. It supports the whole ultrasound frequencies from 10KHz to 150MHz frequency band and also provides sleep modes. A gain from -18.8 to -29.5 dB is achieved by adjusting each transducer to fit the system character. Power consumption can be reduced up to 90% in similar performance as compared to the existing LNA.
Main design issues for MAC (Medium Access Control) protocol in underwater sensor networks are long propagation delay caused by the low speed of sound, difficult synchronization, and energy-limited node's life. We aimed to mitigate the problems of strict synchronization and channel inefficiency of TDMA and also the throughput degradation induced by unavoidable collisions in contention based MAC protocols. This proposed protocol improved not only the energy efficiency by adopting a sleep-mode, but also the throughput by reducing collisions and increasing channel efficiency.
In this paper, we have been implemented the QPSK-based underwater transmission systems using DSP in order to transmit the underwater image data. We have adopted a BDPA (Block Data Parallel Architecture) to control multiple DSPs used in the transmitter and receiver in order to transmit the image data in real-time. We also have developed GUI software in order to drive and to debug the implemanted system in real-time. We have executed open sea tests in order to analyze the performance of the implemented system at East Sea near Kosung in Kangwon-Do. As a result of these experiments, it has been demonstrated that 10 kbps image data can be received without errors at 30m and 80m depth points, while the distance between the transmitter and the receiver is up to 20m.
In this paper, the measuring method of underwater acoustic communication channel characteristics in the shallow water using the autocorrelation characteristic of PN sequence and the undorwater communication channel analysis results from the received signal sample data are described. For measuring the underwater acoustic communication channel characteristics, two PN sequences are used as a transmitted data of I-channel and Q-channel of QPSK symbol and QPSK signal is transmitted with symbol rate of 5 kHz and carrier frequency of 25 kHz. In the receiver the received signal, which pass through 675 m and 1492 m, is sampled and then stored. Using the stored sample data, the scattering function, coherent time, delay power profile, spaced-tone autocorrelation function, delay spread, and coherent bandwidth of each propagation distance cases are analyzed. Based on the analysis results, several guidelines are suggested for the design and implementation of underwater transmission system.
In underwater wireless communication, needs for long distance communication using the high frequency are surpassing ones of short range communication by ultrasonic wave, and demands for transmitting and receiving various data such as voice or high resolution image data are increasing as well. In this work, we studied the effects on the real underwater communication depending on the difference of digital modulation methods. Simulation shows that only the performance of GMSK among many other PSK based modulation schemes(BPSK, QPSK, MSK, GMSK) is significant. Test condition simulates the oceanographic conditions along the 207-survey line, 15Km south of Busan and SNR is maintained 35dB or below. Simulated tests are composed of both transmitting image data($3{\times}10^5$ pixel, 4 bit per pixel) and voice communication($10^{-2}$BER, channel capacity of 1Kbps). Test results show that there are gain of about 7 seconds in transmission time in image transmission case, where channel capacity for BPSK, QPSK, and MSK and for GMSK were 65 Kbps and 45 Kbps, respectively and gain of about 8Km in distances in voice communication case.
