Development and Application of the Heteroscedastic Logit Model (이분산 로짓모형의 추정과 적용)

  • Because the Logit model easily calculates probabilities for choice alternatives and estimates parameters for explanatory variables, it is widely used as a traffic mode choice model. However, this model includes an assumption which is independently and identically distributed to the error component distribution of the mode choice utility function. This paper is a study on the estimation of the Heteroscedastic Logit Model. which mitigates this assumption. The purpose of this paper is to estimate a Logit model that more accurately reflects the mode choice behavior of passengers by resolving the homoscedasticity of the model choice utility error component. In order to do this, we introduced a scale factor that is directly related to the error component distribution of the model. This scale factor was defined so as to take into account the heteroscedasticity in the difference in travel time between using public transport and driving a car, and was used to estimate the travel time parameter. The results of the Logit Model estimation developed in this study show that Heteroscedastic Logit Models can realistically reflect the mode choice behavior of passengers, even if the difference in travel time between public and private transport remains the same as passenger travel time increases, by identifying the difference in mode choice probability of passengers for public transportation.

A Methodology for Defining the Study Impact Area Using Mode Diversion Trip Rate in Rail Infrastructure Feasibility Study (철도사업에서의 수단전환통행비율을 고려한 분석영향권 설정방법론의 개발)

  • The current Korean preliminary feasibility study guidebook provides a simple method for determining the impact area of a transportation project without taking its characteristics into account, which often leads travelers to switch their travel modes. Hence, this study develops a comprehensive methodology for defining the impact area when evaluating railroad projects, which can significantly affect travel mode choice behaviors. To develop the methodology, a hypothetical project was devised. The analysis results show that the convergence of mode-diverted trip rates is improved from 76% to 93% by implementing the proposed method. In addition, there was a significant difference in benefits (about 10.9 billion won) between adopting the current method and the proposed method.

Evaluation and Comparison of Land Consumption Efficiencies of Transportation Modes (교통수단의 토지소모 효율성 비교분석)

  • This study attempts to evaluate and compare the land consumption efficiencies of various urban transport modes, utilizing the time-area method. With the careful considerations of travel conditions and modal characteristics, equations for the computation of time-area for various different modes are derived. With the appropriate assumed values of parameters, time-area consumptions per person per km for each mode both for peak and off-peak situations are computed and evaluated. The relationships between the time-area consumed and operating speed for each mode are graphically demonstrated and discussed. An example of the time-area consumed for a hypothetical commuter round-trip using various modes are also presented in order to clearly show the consumption of parking requirements by specific modes. It shows that regardless of facilities used, auto users are by far the worst in terms of area efficiency and that transit, especially rail rapid transit, is a superior mode. Pedestrian and bicycle, though consuming more than expected, also demonstrate the advantage in case of a short-distance trip in terms of area efficiency compared with the bus transit modes.

  • 소비자 행태에 관한 신고전 경제이론을 통행수요의 분석에 그대로 적용하는데 문제 가 되는 특기 사항으로는 운임이외에 통행시간과 같은 서어비스 질도 통행수단의 선택에 영 향을 미친다는 점과 특정 두지점간의 통행에서 동일한 소비자도 여러 수송수단을 이용한다 는 점을 들수 있다. 본 연구의 주제는 이와같은 통행수요의 독특한 특성을 반영할 수 있는 소비자의 효용최대화모형의 설정과 이 모형에서 유도된 수요함수의 구조를 분석함에 있다. 상술하면, 통행시간 가치의 불확실성 아래에서 효용을 극대화하는 의사결정문제를 Stochastic Programming 모형으로 표현하였다. 또한 이 모형에서 유도된 특성 통행수단의 수요함수는 이 수단이 가장 유리한 시간가치의 범위에 대한 부정적분으로 표현되며 이 적분 범위와 피적분함수는 모든 경쟁수단의 운임과 통행수단의 함수로 정의됨을 증명하였다. 또 한 수요함수는 통행수요에 관한 통계분석모형에서 묵시적으로 가정되고 있는 통행수단간 대 체성(Property of gross substitute)과 대각방향우세성(Property of diagonal dominance)등의 특성을 가지고 있음을 보여 주었다.

Development of a Behavioral Mode Choice Model for Road Goods Movement (형태요소를 적용한 화물수송수단 선택 모형의 개발)

  • 기존의 추정된 화물 수요모형은 화물의 출하특성과 관련된 설명변수를 중심으로 추정되었으며, 이에 따라 수송수단 선택 과정에서 화주가 느끼는 실제의 인식 상황을 모형내에 적절히 반영하지 못하였다. 본 연구는 기존 연구가 갖는 한계점을 극복하고자 화주가 수송수단을 선택할 때 느끼는 인식상황을 모형 내에 적용시켜 수단 선택 특성을 분석하였다. 연구대상은 우리나라의 188개 제조업체에서 화물자동차로 출하한 내수용 화물이며, 연구의 범위도 현실 운송체계 내에서 화주의 수단선택 행태를 설명하는 단기간의 예측으로 제한하였다. 모형추정결과 우리나라의 공로화물수송을 해석하기 위해서는, 출하중량까지를 고려한 다항로짓모형 형태이면서 인식 요소를 행태변수로 추가한 모형을 이용하는 것이 가장 적절하다는 결론을 내렸다. 그리고 이에 따라 주요한 설명 변수들의 탄력성과 화주의 인식 요소에 대한 특성값을 분석하여 제시하였다. 연구결과는 활용성 측면에서 직접 활용이 가능한 것과 잠재적인 변화를 예측하는데 이용되는 것으로 구분된다. 먼저 직접활용이 가능한 것은 수송수단과 관계된 변수들을 해석하여 얻는데, 수송비용과 수송시간에 대한 계수값의 크기와 부호, 그리고 탄력성은 정부의 정책부서나 운송인의 계획수립에 직접 적용된다. 다음으로 화주의 인식 요소는 잠재적인 변화를 예측하는데 이용되며 각 요소가 갖는 탄력성 및 특징은 운송인의 고객관리 기준이된다.

  • Since the enactment of "Mobility Promotion Law for Transportation Vulnerable", each municipality has been various efforts to improve the transportation vulnerable's the right of movement. However, the effectiveness of mobility promotion policy for the transportation vulnerable is awfully inadequate because circumstances which associated with operation of transportation of the handicapped such as local conditions and transport characteristics have not been considered. Thus, in this study investigated traffic characteristics of the transportation vulnerable through the data of regional slope, non-step buses and handicap vehicles operating conditions and so on in Busan Metropolitan. Also, we proposed to introduction of the 'mobility index' which is based on local condition analysis of Busan. And we suggested that how to improve the convenience of transportation vulnerable's movement.

  • Freight mode choice models are essential to the analysis of many areas of transport research. However, observations of actual market choices have only been made in a limited number of situations. Therefore, stated preference(SP) techniques have emerged as an alternative source of actual market choices to be used for estimating freight mode choice models. Considerable confidence exists about SP data, but little consideration has been given to the potential for estimation bias. This paper has been motivated by the theoretical side of estimating SP discrete choice models, focusing on a case study of freight mode choice. Recently developed simulation methods are used to construct inherent random heterogeneity legit models, which consider individual heterogeneity, its inheritance to the next choices and overcome the independence from irrelevant alternatives (IIA) property. This Paper contributes to the development of models dealing with heterogeneity and its inheritance, and sheds light on the heterogeneity of freight transport.

Choice Factors of Freight Transport Mode in Korea: Literature Review and Directions for Future Research (국내 화물운송수단 선택요인의 문헌 연구와 향후 연구 방향)

  • The present study was conducted to analyze transport mode choice factors of shippers in Korea and to suggest policy implications and directions for future research. The findings showed that the research on freight mode choice factors in Korea is somewhat insufficient compared to that of other countries. In order to enhance the research, it is necessary to expand the number of studies and to strengthen the research to reflect characteristics of each transport mode. In particular, it is necessary to focus on identifying the characteristics of multimodal transport, including railway and shipping linked to truck. On the other hand, it was confirmed that the major factors influencing the choice of transport mode of shippers in Korea overlapped with foreign research cases. In addition, the implications for policy were derived when the analysis was separately conducted for Korea and other countries regarding individual transport mode and transport range. These results could be applied to various fields such as policy making to improve the efficiency of shippers' selection of transport mode and the estimation of transport mode choice model.

  • Demand Responsive Transit (DRT) services are becoming necessary as part of not only alternative transportation means for elderly and mobility impaired passengers, but also sustainable and flexible transportation options in urban area due to the development of communication technologies and Location Based Services (LBS). It is difficult to investigate the system performance regarding vehicle operational schemes and vehicle routing algorithms due to the lack of commercial software to support door-to-door vehicle simulation for larger area. This study proposes a simulation framework to evaluate innovative and flexible transit systems focusing on various vehicle routing algorithms, which describes data-type requirements for simulating door-to-door service on demand. A simulation framework is applied to compare two vehicle dispatch algorithms, Nearest Vehicle Dispatch (NVD) and Insertion Heuristic (IH) for real-time shared-taxi service in Seoul. System productivity and efficiency of the shared-taxi service are investigated, comparing to the conventional taxi system.

A Study on Transfering Demands from Duribal to Taxi Using Ordered Logistic Model (순서형 로짓 모델을 이용한 두리발 이용자의 일반택시로의 수단전환에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, due to THE MOBILITY ENHANCEMENT FOR THE MOBILITY IMPAIRED ACT, local governments have tired to make various efforts on special transport services(STS), low-flow bus, and installing elevator in subway stations for handicapped people. But in case of STS, insufficient numbers of taxi are raised against the increasing demand of hadicapped people due to the limited budget. This study investigated actual use condition of STS and characteristics of selection of handicapped people on Duribal. In addition, an ordered-logistic model was employed for developing taxi use prediction model considering taxi fare discounts for diverting Duribal demands to taxies. The results can be a significant basic data for transportation policies to improve travel efficiency of the handicapped.
