  • This study identified a candidate area and route for construction of a hub & spork system for coastal passenger ships. For this purpose, the characteristics of the hierarchy structure of other transportation and the operating system of coastal passenger ships were analyzed. Evaluation factors for selecting alternative areas and routes for the construction project were then extracted. Secondly, the relative importance of these evaluation factors for alternative routes were calculated using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. Finally, the importance of these evaluation items and quality of the alternative areas and routes were considered to select a primary candidate area and route. Therefore, four evaluation items such as the number of passenger-ship routes, the number of passengers, the number of cars, and the number of residences were extracted, and the Mokpo area was selected as the target area. In addition, four evaluation items such as he number of islanders, the number of local governments, geographical conditions and passenger ship operators were extracted, and the Yeonggwang route was selected as priority candidates for this construction project. Meanwhile, for the expansive implementation, step-by-step promotion is needed along with the expansion of terminal facilities, the securing of large ships, and the introduction of a semi-public system for coastal passenger ships.

  • Sensor network, that is an infrastructure of ubiquitous computing, consists of a number of sensor nodes of which hardware is very small. The network topology and routing scheme of the network should be determined according to its purpose, and its hardware and software may have to be changed as needed from time to time. Thus, the sensor network simulator being capable of verifying its behavior and estimating performance is required for better design. Sensor network simulators currently existing have been developed for specific hardwares or operating systems, so that they can only be used for such systems and do not provide any means to estimate the amount of power consumption and program execution time which are major issues for system design. In this study, we develop the sensor network simulator that can be used to design and verify various sensor networks without regarding to types of applications or operating systems, and also has the capability of predicting the amount of power consumption and program execution time. For this purpose, the simulator is developed by using machine instruction-level discrete-event simulation scheme. As a result, the simulator can be used to analyze program execution timings and related system behaviors in the actual sensor nodes in detail. Instruction traces used as workload for simulations are executable images produced by the cross-compiler for ATmega128L microcontroller.

  • The lure-distance of Riptortus pedestris aggregation pheromone was elucidated and the damage mitigation effect by mass trapping of R. pedestris was examined in commercial soybean fields. The recaptured ratio showed that 76.1% of total recaptured individuals were lured within 40 m and 89.0% of total recaptured adults were arrested in the lower 80 m. There is not much difference in the number of recaptured individuals according to the location of installed traps in the experiment. There was linear correlation between the total installed number of traps and the total number of trapped individuals in commercial soybean fields. and the highest yield (261.8 g/10 stems) was investigated in the field that had installed a pheromone trap per $770m^2$. No relationship wasf found between the covered areas of a pheromone trap for mass trapping and yield loss. The ratio of type A seed (healthy) was higher in the field that installed a trap per $385m^2$ and $770m^2$ (around 62%) and type B seed (showing distinct injury marks) was lower in the same fields (around 27%). From this result, we could reduce slightly the damage of soybean seeds by the mass trapping of Riptortus pedestris adults with an aggregation pheromone trap per $385{\sim}770m^2$ area range.

  • As one of the key IT applications, the project management information system (PMIS) has played a significant role in construction management processes. This is because PMIS is an information system that gathers, integrates, and disseminates the output of project management processes among project participants, and is used to support all aspects of a project, from initiation through closing. This paper aims to identify the CSFs(Critical Success Factor) of Project Management and quality associated with Project Management Information System (PMIS) in construction projects, to analyze the Effect of PMIS quality on Project Management Success. The CSFs of Project Management and the quality components for PMIS are identified through a review of the literature, and consolidated through interviews with professionals in the construction industry. A questionnaire instrument was sent out to experienced users (Construction Manager and Constructor), and 253 completed questionnaires were retrieved. To increase the applicability of the results, the respondents consisted of workers spread across various parts of the construction site. Using SPSS 12.0, the data was used to analyze the relationship between PMIS Quality and Project Management Success through multiple regression analysis. These findings help to clarify what the highly prioritized factors are, and could also be used as an assessment tool to evaluate the performance of PMIS and thus help to identify areas for improvement.

  • The Korean government has designated speed-limit zones and speed limits in 19 ports and 3 routes to ensure safe navigation and transportation. However, the speed limit differs from port to port, no practical means of management exist. This often leads to violation of the speed limit. Additionally, ship collisions due to human error continue to occur. First, the study analyzed marine accidents that occurred at trade ports and fairways. The result of the analysis revealed the occurrence of 1344 accidents (average 269 cases per year) from 2014 to 2018. Five hundred sixty three accidents involved fishing boats, whereas, merchant vessels were involved in 508 cases. Second, the efficacy of the application of voice and message warnings to GPS plotters and electronic chart display and information system (ECDIS) was reviewed, and these were proposed as measures to inform vessel operators of the hazards of speed limit violation. Third, experts' opinions from relevant agencies and navigation system manufacturers were consulted and it was found that the proposed warning function was technically implementable. The findings are expected to help reduce human error among ship operators and establish a Korean e-navigation system.

  • The success of a software development project can be determined by the use of QCD. And as a software's size and complexity increase, the importance of early quality assurance rises. Therefore, more effort should be given to prevention, as opposed to correction. In order to provide a framework for the prevention of defects, defect detection activities such as peer review and testing, along with analysis of previous defects, is required. This entails a systematization and use of quality data from previous development efforts. FMEA, which is utilized for system safety assurance, can be applied as a means of software defect prevention. SW-FMEA (Software Failure Mode Effect Analysis) attempts to prevent defects by predicting likely defects. Presently, it has been applied to requirement analysis and design. SW-FMEA utilizes measured data from development activities, and can be used for defect prevention on both the development and management sides, for example, in planning, analysis, design, peer reviews, testing, risk management, and so forth. This research discusses about related methodology and proposes defect prevention model based on SW-FMEA. Proposed model is extended SW-FMEA that focuses on system analysis and design. The model not only supports verification and validation effectively, but is useful for reducing defect detection.

  • Amitrole in environment, difficult to be analyzed by GC or GC/MS due to high polarity and low volatility, was analyzed by LC/ESI/MS in the study. Maximum peak intensity of amitrole in LC/MS/ESI mass spectrum is m/z 85 of protonated molecular ion $(M+H)^+$ with 30V of cone voltage at SIR mode. It was confirmed that ratios between main ion of amitrole, 85 of protonated molecular ion, and m/z 58 fragmented ion of amitrole, had increased corresponding with the increment of cone voltage from 20V to 70V. The isotope molecular weight of amitrole was $86([M+H])^+$ at LC/MS analysis and the mass spectrum ratio between 85 mass and 86 mass was not different by the change of concentration but similar to theoretical ratio(less than 10% standard deviation). The linearity of standard calibration curve under same condition with sample treatment method had $y=1.09354e^6X+26947.2$ and $r^2=0.99$. Recovery rates in water and soil samples were 77.64~83.44% and 71.11~79.44%, respectively. Reliability of the analysis was performed with 5 repeated measurements at each level of standard concentration and the result showed that relative standard deviation was less than 10%; therefore, the extraction and analysis method in the study suggested that it would be reliable to measure amitrole in water and soil media.

  • Republic of Korea has established 'Transmission and Reception for Terrestrial UHDTV Broadcasting Service' standard based on ATSC 3.0, the next-generation broadcasting standard in North America and is now providing commercial services. Republic of Korea has been studying terrestrial UHDTV based disaster broadcasting service using the ATSC 3.0 AEA system's technology since 2018. ATSC 3.0 has established a standard for expanding disaster broadcasting services, which were used to be simple push-type text message broadcasting, by introducing bidirectional and rich-media transporting mechanisms. However, the disaster information is still focused on the general public, and disaster broadcasting service including detailed information for the vulnerable are still insufficient. In this paper, we proposed the optimized disaster broadcasting service for vulnerable populations based on ATSC 3.0 after defined the disaster vulnerable populations as the target of the service. And we defined the extension element of disaster broadcasting message for service provision. The proposed service can be an effective means to increase the possibility of disaster information reception and evacuation to vulnerable populations. In addition, it is expected to be used as a basic research for development of diverse and effective advanced services for vulnerable populations through linkage with existing disaster alerting and countermeasures studies.

  • Solar flares have the 11-year cycle and release a large energy which may produce coronal mass ejections (CME). The NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) predicted that the sun spot activity will be maximized in 2013-2014. A strong solar flare can cause the disturbance of global positioning system including various communication of TV, radio broadcasting. The actual solar storm in 1989 caused power outages in Canada during 9 hours and about 600 million people had experienced a blackout. Such a solar storm can shorten the GPS satellite's life span about 5 to 10 years which can resulted in economic loss considering the amount of multi-billion won. This paper analyzed the influence of recent X-class solar storm occurred on 15th of February about 10:45 this year that was reached Korea (Bohyun observatory) on 18th of February about 10:30 (01:30 - UTC), and compared with the data before and after a week. The proton data of 18th of February considered that the solar storm reached on earth showed a fluctuation compared to the data before and after a week. The positioning results at Daejeon and Seoul of Korea also showed higher positioning error compared to the data before and after a week results.
