Numerical Evaluation of the Rock Damaged Zone Around a Deep Tunnel (손상모델을 이용한 심부터널 주변암반의 손상영역 평가)

  • The nonlinear-brittle-plastic model derived from experiments as well as elastic and elasto-plastic models was applied to the analysis of the rock damaged zone around a highly stressed circular tunnel. The depths of stress redistribution and disturbed zone as well as the characteristic behaviors predicted from each numerical model were compared, As the magnitudes and stress differences of in situ stresses increased, influences of stress redistribution and stress disturbance on un(tiled region of rock mass also intensified. As a result, larger stress redistribution and disturbed zone as well as greater deviatoric stress and displacement were obtained by the nonlinear-brittle-plastic model rather than other conventional models such as elasto-plastic and elastic models. from such results, it was concluded that as the magnitudes and stress differences of in situ stresses increased, larger rock damaged zone might be predicted by the nonlinear-brittle-plastic model. Therefore, it is thought that the damage analysis may be indispensable far highly stressed tunnels.

  • Purpose: We report here on a solution for the case of a 71 year old lady with cartilage destruction in the left shoulder and the loss of the rotator cuff secondary to post-septic arthritic sequelae. Materials and methods: After thorough laboratory, clinical and radiological investigation of the patient to rule out any foci of active infection, we contemplated performing reverse total shoulder arthroplasty as a primary procedure. Results: At 22 months follow up, the patient had an excellent result according to the UCLA and ASES scales. Conclusion: Reverse total shoulder arthroplasty seems to be an efficient procedure to improve pain and function in the post-septic shoulder accompanying severe rotator cuff injury.

  • Background: This study examined the role of neutrophilc oxidative stress in an $O_2-induced$ acute lung injury (ALI). Methods: For 48 h, experimental rats were exposed to pure oxygen (normobaric hyperoxia) in a plastic cage. Forty-eight hours after $O_2$ breathing, the rats were sacrificed and the parameters for ALI associated with neutrophilic oxidative stress were assessed Results: Normobaric pure oxygen induced ALI, which was quite similar to ARDS. The $O_2-induced$ neutrophilic oxidative stress was identified by confirming of the increase in lung myeloperoxidase, BAL neutrophils, malondialdehyde (MDA), cytosolic phospholipase $A_2$ ($cPLA_2$) activity in the lung, histological changes and BAL cytospin morphology. Conclusion: In part, ALI-caused by oxygen is affected by neutrophils especially by the generation of free radicals.

  • In this paper, we suggest a approach which comprises fast Fourier transform inversion by wavelet noise attenuation. It represents an inverse filtering by adopting a factor into the Wiener filtering, and the optimal factor is chosen to minimize the overall mean squared error. in order to apply the Wiener filter, we have to compute the power spectrum of original image from the corrupted figure. Since the Wiener filtering contains the inverse filtering process, it expands the noise when the blurring filter is not invertible. To remove the large noises, the best is to remove the noise using wavelet threshold. Wavelet noise attenuation steps are consisted of inverse filtering and noise reduction by Wavelet functions. experimental results have not outperformed the other methods over the overall restoration performance.

원자력발전소 붕산수중 실리카에 대한 역삼투막의 선택적 제거특성 연구

  • 가압경수로형(PWR) 원자력발전소에스는 원자로 출력조절을 위한 중성자 흡수체로 붕산(Boric Acid)을 사용하며, 불순물이 농축되는 것을 방지하기 위하여 이온교환수지로 수질 정화를 하고 있다. 그러나, 붕산으로 포화운전되는 이온교환수지에서 붕산보다 이온선택도가 낮은 실리카는 제거되지 않으므로, 원자력발전소의 운전년수 경과에 따라 1차계통수(원자로냉각재)의 붕산수중에 실리카 농도가 증가하게 된다. 한편, 실리카는 고온, 고압 운전조건에서 양이온불순물과 결합하여 핵연료피복재에 열전달을 방해하는 규석(Zeolite)층을 형성함으로서 국부가열(Hot Spot)에 의한 핵연료 손상을 일으킬 수 있으므로, 효율적인 실리카 제거기술이 요구된다. 따라서, 기존에 원전에서 사용하고 있는 Feed & Bleed에 의한 수질정화 방법은 다량의 폐기물 발생 및 붕산보충이 필요하므로, 역삼투막(RO)을 이용하여 붕소와 실리카의 최적 분리, 회수조건을 연구하고, 붕산저장 용량이 큰 SFP(Spent Fuel Pool)의 수질정화용 이동형 RO장치를 개발하기 위하여 붕산수중의 실리카에 대한 역삼투막의 선택적 제거특성을 검토하였다.

Determination of Degraded Fiber Properties of Laminated CFRP Flat Plates Using the Bivariate Gaussian Distribution Function (이변량 Gaussian 분포함수를 적용한 CFRP 적층 평판의 보강섬유 물성저하 규명)

  • This paper presents a method to detect the fiber property variation of laminated CFRP plates using the bivariate Gaussian distribution function. Five unknown parameters are considered to determine the fiber damage distribution, which is a modified form of the bivariate Gaussian distribution function. To solve the inverse problem using the combined computational method, this study uses several natural frequencies and mode shapes in a structure as the measured data. The numerical examples show that the proposed technique is a feasible and practical method which can prove the location of a damaged region as well as inspect the distribution of deteriorated stiffness of CFRP plates for different fiber angles and layup sequences.

  • The purpose of this research is to develop a full-spectral fatigue analysis program, based on rigid-body ship motion analysis, in order to perform a full-spectral fatigue analysis that considers hydroelasticity effects. To gain credibility, fatigue analysis results of two ship types, performed by the developed program, were compared with those of a classification society, and it was found that both are identical. Full-spectral fatigue analysis considering hydroelasticity effects would be developed in further studies by including flexible-body ship motion analysis results and by supplementing the developed program with a wide-band fatigue damage model.

Antioxidative Activities and Protective Effects on Alcohol-Induced Oxidative Stress in the Human Hepatic HepG2 Cells of Undaria pinnatifida and Costaria costata Extracts (미역과 쇠미역 추출물의 항산화 및 간 보호 효과)

  • We investigated the antioxidant and hepatoprotective effects of extracts from the Undaria pinnatifida and Costaria costata against ethanol-induced oxidative damage. The total polyphenol and flavonoid contents were highest in the 70% ethanol extract from Undaria pinnatifida and Costaria costata. Also, the radical scavenging activity of DPPH (IC50 0.33± 0.21, 0.48±0.47 mg/ml) and ABTS (IC50 0.34±0.30, 0.47±0.17 mg/ml) in the 70% ethanol extract was higher than that of the hot water and 10% ethanol extracts. To determine the hepatoprotective effects of extracts in ethanol-induced oxidative damage, cell viability was measured using an MTT assay. In the pre-treatment of Undaria pinnatifida and Costaria costata hot water extracts, the concentration-dependent increased the cell viability compared with the ethanol treated cells (73.95%) by 89.91~97.63% and 84.99~90.54%, respectively. The data suggests that 70% ethanol extracts have antioxidant activity and hot water extracts exhibit hepatoprotective effects. Therefore, Undaria pinnatifida and Costaria costata may be considered potential agents for control ethanol-induced liver damage.

Involvement of Kupffer Cell in $CCl_4$ induced Liver Injury: The Role of Calcium (사염화 탄소에 의한 간손상에 있어 Kupffer cell 칼슘의 역할)

  • The hypothesis that calcium provoke $O_2^-$ formation by Kupffer cells and may contribute to carbon tetrachloride $(CCl_4)$ induced liver injury was studied in SD rats. In $CCl_4-treated$ animals, hepatic malonaldehyde (nmole/gm liver) and plasma ALT (IU/ml) levels elevated significantly from $119.63{\pm}13.00$ to $268.97{\pm}14.82$ and from $17.3{\pm}0.18$ to $806.08{\pm}37.63$, respectively, compared to those in controls. Activation of Kupffer cells with high dose of retinol (250,000 IU/kg/day, po, for 7 day) significantly enhanced ALT levels, while inactivation of Kupffer cells with gadolinium chloride (7.5 mg/kg/day, ip, for 2 day) attenuated the increase of serum ALT level following $CCl_4$ treatment. Diltiazem (10 mg/kg/day, ip for 2 day) given in combination with retinol led to a marked decrease in ALT levels compare to the level in rats treated only with retinol against $CCl_4$ treatment. In order to determine any alterations in cytochrome P450 activities, the P450 content and the CYP2E1 activity were measured and all $CCl_4-treated$ rats showed significantly lower levels compared to those in controls and vehicle-treated animals. There were significant increases in glutathione peroxidase in all $CCl_4-treated$ rats except diltiazem treated groups. No difference was found among untreated and vehicle-treated rats. It is concluded that Kupffer cells contribute to $CCl_4-induced$ liver injury and that calcium antagonist attenuated the increased $CCl_4-induced$ liver injury due to activation of Kupffer cells.

A Study on the Impact-Induced Damage in CFRP Angle-ply Laminates (CFRP 사교적층판의 충격손상에 관한 연구)

  • Carbon fiber reinforced plastics(CFRP) have gained increased application in aerospace structures because of their specific strength and stiffness, but are sensitive to impact-induced damage. An experimental investigation was carried out to evaluate the impact resistance of CFRP according to the ply angle. The specimens of angle ply laminate composites were employed with [0.deg. $_{6}$/ .deg.$_{10}$/0.deg.$_{6}$], in which 6 kinds of ply angle such as .deg.=15.deg., 30.deg., 45.deg., 60.deg., 75.deg. and 90.deg. were selected. The impact tests were conducted using the air gun type impact testing machine by steel balls of diameter of 5 mm and 10 mm, and impact-induced damages were evaluated under same impact speed of V=60m/s. The impact damaged zones were observed through a scanning acoustic microscope (SAM). The obtained results were summarized as follows: (1) Delaminations on the interfacial boundaries showed th directional characteristics to the fiber directions. The delamination area on the impact side (interface A) was considerably smaller compared to that of the opposite side (interface B). (2) Cracks corresponding to other delaminations than those mentioned in SAM photographs were also seen on the impact damaged zone. (3) The delamination patterns were affected by the ply-angle, the dimensions of the specimen, and the boundary conditions. (4) The impact damaged zone showed zone showed the delamination on the interfacial boundaries, transverse shear cracks of the surface layer, and bending cracks of the bottom layer.r.r.r.
