Effect of turbulence on size distribution of suspended sediment (난류 강도에 따른 부유사의 입도 분포 변화)

  • 유사는 이동 형태에 따라 소류사와 부유사로 구분된다. 하천의 흐름을 통해 이동하는 유사의 대부분은 부유사의 형태로 이동하며, 부유사의 부유 거동은 난류 강도와 유사 입자의 침강 속도로 인해 결정된다. 이에 따라 부유사의 부유 거동을 이해하기 위해서는 정확한 침강 속도의 산정과 난류에 대한 이해가 요구된다. 유사의 침강 속도는 밀도와 크기로 대표되는 유사의 특성을 이용하여 결정된다. 하천에서 부유사가 여러 크기를 갖는 유사 입자들이 혼재된 형태로 이동하는 것을 생각해 볼 때, 침강 속도의 분포를 이해하기 위해서 입도 분포에 대한 연구는 필수적임을 알 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 유사 입자의 입도 분포에 난류 강도가 미치는 영향을 살펴본다. 연구를 수행하기 위해 모래의 입도 분포가 로그 정규 분포를 따를 것이라는 가정을 적용하여 난류의 영향을 고려하는 부유사의 입도 분포 모형이 개발되었다. 부유사의 입도 분포는 흐름의 유사 이송 능력에 따라 분포의 표준 편차와 같은 물리량이 변화할 것으로 예측되는데, 흐름 내 유사의 이동과 흐름의 유사 이송 능력을 함께 고려하기 위해 개발되는 유사의 입도 분포 모형은 유사 이동 모형과 결합된다.

Endocrine Function and Growth in Children with Craniopharyngioma (소아 두개인두종 환자에서 치료 전후의 뇌하수체 기능과 성장 및 체중 변화)

  • Purpose : Craniopharyngiomas are often accompanied by severe endocrine disorders. Although there is universal growth hormone deficiency(GHD), the resulting growth pattern is very heterogeneous. We report the growth and endocrine outcome of 44 children with craniopharyngioma, with emphasis on initial symptoms, growth before and during growth hormone(GH) treatment and spontaneous growth in spite of GHD. Methods : We performed a retrospective study of 44 children treated at our centre between 1984 and 2002. Results : About 30% of patients had symptoms suggesting endocrine disorder at diagnosis. After surgery, multiple endocrinopathies were almost universal. Before GH therapy, height velocity was $8.00{\pm}2.71cm/yr$ in the normal growth group(n=11) and $1.79{\pm}1.10cm/yr$ in the subnormal growth group(n=7) during the first year and during the second year, $6.76{\pm}2.49cm/yr$ and $2.29{\pm}1.33cm/yr$, respectively. There was no difference of body mass index(BMI) change between before and after surgery in the two groups. Height standard deviation score(SDS) was $-1.46{\pm}0.74$ in the normal growth group and $-0.43{\pm}0.97$ in the subnormal growth group. Before GH treatment height SDS was $-1.31{\pm}1.25$ and BMI was $20.46{\pm}3.60$. During GH treatment, height SDS increased to $-0.60{\pm}1.37$ in the first, and to $-0.41{\pm}1.54$ in the second year(P<0.05), but BMI did not change significantly. Conclusion : The endocrine morbidity could develop in most children with craniopharyngioma before and after the operation and should be managed properly. Although all treated patients benefit from GH therapy, further studies are necessary to find out the possible mechanism of growth regulation in normally growing children, despite GH deficient.

Material Characteristics of Traditional Bricks used in the Royal Tomb of King Muryeong, Gongju, Korea and Its Reproduction Bricks (무령왕릉에 사용된 전돌과 재현 전돌의 재료학적 특성)

  • This study investigates the material properties of the traditional bricks used in the royal tomb of King Muryeong. Compressive strengths, thermal conductivities, absorptance and the rate of residual moisture are measured by non-destructive experiments. Compressive strength of the traditional bricks is estimated by using the ultrasonic wave velocity and the absorptance. Based on the experimental results, the predicted compressive strengths using the ultrasonic wave velocity are unsuitable for the traditional bricks due to the rough surface and thickness variation of the specimens. The strengths using the absorptance are more suitable than those using the velocity because the predicted average strengths (28.69 MPa ~ 33.19 MPa) are close to building materials like normal strength concrete. In addition, the methods using the absorptance are not influenced by surface and thickness conditions of the specimens. The average thermal conductivities of the bricks measured by using Mathis TCi are close to those of soils (1.58 W/mK). The absorptance and the rate of residual moisture of the bricks are 1.6 % ~ 15 %, 0 % ~ 0.7 %, respectively.

A Study of Posted Speeds on Freeway Exits and Entrances (고속도로 진출구 제한속도에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of posted speeds is to provide a speed that ensures the safety of vehicle flow according to given road situations. Because of this, posted speeds must be carefully examined, and posted speeds at freeway exits and entrances in particular should consider car characteristics. Posted speeds at freeway exits and entrances must take changing speeds due to curve radiuses into consideration and in this study, an 85th percentile speed becomes the most important element to consider. When it is considered that most traffic accidents occur because of variations in speed between cars, posted speeds should be set after considering car traveling characteristics. Within these dimensions, instead of putting significance on an upper direction regulation or lower direction regulation, speed distributions which fit to the characteristics of each road should be fully considered. Accordingly, this study evaluated appropriate posted speeds that will reduce the dangers of traffic accidents through posted speed regulations of roads now in operation by offering a posted speed setting method theory, using entries at Yangji, Yongin, and Cheongwon interchanges as subjects.

On the Improvement of Accuracy of Position Fix By Loran C to Compute with Micro Computer (전산처리에 의한 로오란 C의 선위정도 개선에 관하여)

  • This paper is compared the simulation tables by the general propagation velocity and the calculated propagation velocities with distances and times to take to be transmitted Loran C wave from master station to slave stations, with Loran C tables, and compared the accuracy of position fixes by the simulation to them by Loran C table with the time differences of 9970 chain to be measured in the south coast of Korea, and by the simulation with the time differences of 5970 chain to be measured at definite position to them. The results obtained are as follows; 1. the simulation tables by the calculated propagation velocities is nearer to Loran C tables than it by the general propagation velocity. 2. The ranges of total errors of the simulation positions by the general propagation velocity and the calculated propagation velocities to the position fixies of Loran C table with the time differences of 9970 chain to be measured in the south coast of Korea are 0.2-0.7 miles, 0.01-0.1 miles, and the mean values of them are 0.46 miles and standard deviations of time are 0.1 miles, 0.03 miles respectively. 3. Mean value of total errors of the simulation position by the calculated propagation velocities to the definite position with the time difference of 5970 chain is 0.2miles and is reduced 0.1-0.2 miles than it by the general propagation velocity.

상용 핵연료 피복관의 대량수소화 반응속도 연구

  • 상용 핵연료 피복관 재료로 사용되고 있는 Zircaloy-2와 Zircaloy-4 및 ZIRLO$^{TM}$에 대한 수소와의 반응거동 및 속도론적(kinetic) 자료를 얻기 위하여 electro-microbalance가 장착된 TGA (thermogravimetric analysis) 장치를 이용하여 30$0^{\circ}C$~50$0^{\circ}C$의 온도범위에서 1기압 수소와의 반응에 따른 무게증가를 in-situ로 측정하였다. Zircaloy와 수소와의 반응거동은 chamber내 온도상승시 생성되는 산화막에 의해 초기에는 느린 반응이 진행되는 영역이 존재하고 온도가 낮은 35$0^{\circ}C$ 이하에서는 이것이 잠복기 형태로 나타난 후 직선속도법칙(linear rate law)을 따르며 반응이 가속화되는 것으로 나타났고 40$0^{\circ}C$ 이하의 저온에서는 직선속도법칙에서 반응이 지연되는 방향으로 약간의 편차(deviation)가 관찰되었다. 그 결과 Zircaloy-2와 ZIRLO$^{TM}$가 Zircaloy-4보다 수소와의 반응속도가 빠르고 활성화에너지가 낮은 것으로 나타났으며 직선속도법칙을 근거로 하여 각각 1.1x$10^{7}$ exp(-20,800/RT)와 1.5x$10^{6}$exp(-18,000/RT) 및 6.9x$10^{7}$ exp(-23,800/RT) (mg/dm$^2$/min) 의 속도상수를 도출하였다. 또한, 열구배가 존재하지 않는 out-of-pile 조건하에서도 'sunburst' 형태의 국부적 수소침투가 발생할 수 있음이 ~l,000 ppm이상의 수소침투 시편에서 확인되었다. ~3,000ppm이상 침투하게 되면 표면에 수소화물이 농축되어 있는 hydride layer가 형성됨을 관찰하였으며 ~5,000ppm 이상의 경우에는 수소화물의 방향성이 random하였으며 특히, ZIRLO$^{TM}$ 시편의 경우에서는 원주방향으로 길게 이어진 수소화물과 기계적 성질에 치명적인 반경방향의 수소화물이 평행하게 배열된 것을 관찰하였다.

A Study on the Chromatic Dispersion in the concatenated Single-Mode Optical Fibers (연쇄 접속된 단일 모드 광섬유의 분산특성에 관한 연구)

  • Choromatic dispersion of single mode optical fibers limits the maximum bit rate in the single mode optical transmission systems. In this paper we calculate chromatic dispersion and dispersion parametes(zero dispersion wavelength, dispersion slope) for concatenated single mode optical fibers form the chromatic dispersion and dispersion parameters of individual single mode optical fibers, and compare theoretical valuse with those measrued by double demodulation method. Calculated values are coincident with measured ones reasonably. The standard deviation is 0.77-1.28nm for zero dispersion wavelength and 0.56-0.75PS/km.nm2 for dispersion slope. The standard deviation of zero dispersion wavelength is inverse proportional to the optical fiber lenght.

Study on the Characteristics of Far Infrared Ray Drying for Rough Rice(I) (벼의 원적외선 건조특성에 관한 연구(I))

  • 본 연구에서는 원적외선.열풍 복합건조특성을 구명하기 위하여 건조용량 150-500kg이고, 승강기, 상.하부스크류, 건조실, 템퍼링실, 송풍기 및 가열장치로 구성된 시뮬레이터를 제작하여 건조특성시험을 실시하였다. 그 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 가. 열풍온도에 따른 곡온변화를 시험한 결과 열풍온도 45$^{\circ}C$일 때 곡온 32-33$^{\circ}C$를 유지하였으며, 48, 51$^{\circ}C$일 때는 곡온이 35$^{\circ}C$가 넘어서는 현상을 나타났다. 건조중 곡온이 35$^{\circ}C$를 넘어서게 되면 동할미 발생량이 많아지고 품질저하가 급격히 일어난다. 나. 템퍼링실의 온도편차가 2,5$^{\circ}C$ 정도로 고른 온도분포를 나타내었고, 버너 입구쪽과 템퍼링실 중앙지점에서 온도가 약간 높게 나타났으며, 원적외선방사체 표면온도분포는 열풍온도가 45$^{\circ}C$일 때 평균 17$0^{\circ}C$를 유지하였고, 48$^{\circ}C$, 51$^{\circ}C$일 때 각각 22$0^{\circ}C$, 23$0^{\circ}C$에서 유지하는 것으로 나타났다. 다. 원적외선방사체 길이방향으로 온도편차는 버너를 기준으로 해서 버너쪽에서 멀수록 온도가 높았고, 중간, 근거리 순으로 나타났다. 버너의 원거리쪽에서 온도가 높게 나타난 것은 원적외선방사체를 통과하는 열풍이 빠져나가도록 되어있는 열풍 유동관이 버너 원거리에 위치하고 있어 버너에 불꽃이 점화되면서 열풍이 방사체 끝쪽으로 일시 머물렀다가 배출되기 때문으로 판단된다. 라. 건조기의 송풍량을 요인으로 하여 건조속도와 건조에너지를 비교한 결과 송풍량이 30cmm일 때가 25cmm에서보다 약 33%의 건조속도가 증가되어 송풍량이 많을수록 건조속도가 빨라졌으나, 건조에너지는 1,391kcal/kg.water로 나타나 약 4.2%정도가 더 소요 되었다. 곡물순환속도를 요인으로 하여 비교 시험한 결과 곡물순환속도가 33kg/min일때가 26kg/min보다 약 25%의 건조속도가 증가되어 곡물의 순환속도가 빠를수록 건조속도가 빨라졌으며, 건조에너지도 1,334kcal/kg.water로 비슷하게 소요되었다. 마. 시험구와 대비구의 건감률은 시험구에서 1.08~1.36w.b./h로 나타나 대비구보다 약 9.9~18.3%가 높게 나타났고, 건조에너지는 10.2~14.6%가 절감되었다. 발아율은 열풍온도가 낮을수록 높게 나타났고 시험구가 대비구보다 발아율이 낮게 나타났으며, 동할률 증가량도 원적외선.열풍 복합건조방법이 높게 나타나 이것은 곡물 표면에 원적외선 방사에의한 복사열이 전달되어 열장해를 받았기 때문으로 판단되며, 금후 더 연구하여 적정 열풍온도 및 방사체 크기를 구명해야 할 것이다.

Performance Test of Hypocenter Determination Methods under the Assumption of Inaccurate Velocity Models: A case of surface microseismic monitoring (부정확한 속도 모델을 가정한 진원 결정 방법의 성능평가: 지표면 미소지진 모니터링 사례)

  • The hypocenter distribution of microseismic events generated by hydraulic fracturing for shale gas development provides essential information for understanding characteristics of fracture network. In this study, we evaluate how inaccurate velocity models influence the inversion results of two widely used location programs, hypoellipse and hypoDD, which are developed based on an iterative linear inversion. We assume that 98 stations are densely located inside the circle with a radius of 4 km and 5 artificial hypocenter sets (S0 ~ S4) are located from the center of the network to the south with 1 km interval. Each hypocenter set contains 25 events placed on the plane. To quantify accuracies of the inversion results, we defined 6 parameters: difference between average hypocenters of assumed and inverted locations, $d_1$; ratio of assumed and inverted areas estimated by hypocenters, r; difference between dip of the reference plane and the best fitting plane for determined hypocenters, ${\theta}$; difference between strike of the reference plane and the best fitting plane for determined hypocenters, ${\phi}$; root-mean-square distance between hypocenters and the best fitting plane, $d_2$; root-mean-square error in horizontal direction on the best fitting plane, $d_3$. Synthetic travel times are calculated for the reference model having 1D layered structure and the inaccurate velocity model for the inversion is constructed by using normal distribution with standard deviations of 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3 km/s, respectively, with respect to the reference model. The parameters $d_1$, r, ${\theta}$, and $d_2$ show positive correlation with the level of velocity perturbations, but the others are not sensitive to the perturbations except S4, which is located at the outer boundary of the network. In cases of S0, S1, S2, and S3, hypoellipse and hypoDD provide similar results for $d_1$. However, for other parameters, hypoDD shows much better results and errors of locations can be reduced by about several meters regardless of the level of perturbations. In light of the purpose to understand the characteristics of hydraulic fracturing, $1{\sigma}$ error of velocity structure should be under 0.2 km/s in hypoellipse and 0.3 km/s in hypoDD.

Risk Analysis of Travelling Vehicles by Cross Wind (횡풍에 의한 주행 차량 위험도 해석)

  • Travelling vehicles on roads may slip or overturn due to strong cross wind. This paper presents the path deviation equation and the overturning equation of vehicle, and the process of evaluating the cross wind risk. Case studies for cars and trucks are carried out. It explains the mechanism why the deviation occurs according to the types of vehicles. It shall help to prepare the measures for reducing the risk of travelling vehicles in high wind speeds.
