  • This paper proposes an estimation algorithm to find the moment of inertia, which is essential to design high performance controller for motor drive system. The algorithm finds the moment of inertia observing the position error signal, which contains an error information of moment of inertia, generated by speed observer. Moreover, the proposed algorithm is easily realized in the observer-based speed detection method. The simulation and experimental results are also presented to confirm the performance of moment of inertia estimation method, which shows that the moment of inertia converges to the actual value within several seconds. The speed control responses and the designed speed controller performance match well.

  • This paper presents a speed controller method based on the disturbance torque observer for high-performance speed control of the brushless DC (RLDC) motor. In case of the speed control of robot arms and tracking applications with lower stiffness, we cannot design the speed controller gain to be very large from the viewpoint of the system stability Thus, the feedforward compensation method using disturbance torque observer was proposed. This method can improve the speed characteristic without increasing the speed controller gain. The speed characteristic against disturbance torque can be improved when the bandwidth of the speed controller cannot be made large enough. Consequently, the speed control of the BLDC motor for the high-performance application become achieved.

  • A nonlinear speed control for a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) using a simple disturbance estimation technique is presented. By using a feedback linearization scheme, the nonlinear motor model can be linearized in a controllable canonical form, and the desired speed dynamics can be obtained based on the linearized model. This technique, however, gives an undesirable output performance under the mismatch of the system parameters and load conditions. To cancel disturbance by parameter variation, the controller parameters will be estimated by using a disturbance observer theory where the disturbance torque and flux linkage are estimated. since only the two reduced order observers are used for the parameter estimations, the observer designs are considerably simple and the additional load for computation of the controller is negligibly small. The proposed control scheme is implemented on a PMSM using DSP TMS320C31 and the effectiveness is verified through the comparative simulations and experiments.

  • This study is to develop a vehicle Integrated Dynamics Control System(IDCB) that can stabilize the lateral dynamics and maintain steerability. To accomplish this task, an eight degree of freedom vehicle model and a nonlinear observer are designed. The IDCB independently controls the brake systems of four wheels with a fuzzy logic control and a sliding model control. The result shows that the nonlinear observer produced satisfactory results. IDCB tracked the reference yaw rate and reduced the body slip angle under all tested conditions. It indicates that the IDCB enhanced lateral stability and preserved steerability.

  • This paper presents an improved sensorless vector control system for high performance induction motor drives fed by a matrix converter with non-linearity compensation. The nonlinear voltage distortion that is caused by commutation delay and on-state voltage drop in switching devices is corrected by a new matrix converter model. A Reduced Order Extended Luenberger Observer (ROELO) is employed to bring better response in the whole speed operation range and a method to select the observer gain is presented. Experimental results are shown to illustrate the performance of the proposed system.

  • In this paper, using the adaptive sliding mode observer for speed sensorless vector control is proposed. Adaptive sliding mode observer of the motor stator coordinate system using the voltage equations of the rotor flux components are observed. Motor speed was obtained by the Lyapunov function is estimated by the relationship further. In order to establish such a control scheme based on the way conventional PI controller and sliding mode observer annexing characteristics of the system through simulation and experiment were compared. According to analysis by comparison with the usefulness of the system was confirmed.

  • In this paper, improvement method of control performance by a full-order observer using reduced-order state equation is proposed in the low speed range. Full-order observer using reduced-order state equation is the motor speed and the disturbance torque observer. The proposed algorithm is very stable in the low speed range about 1.9[rpm]. The disturbance torque in the motor drive system degrades speed control performance in the low speed range. The proposed algorithm estimated both motor speed and disturbance torque. The estimated disturbance torque is used as a feedforward value in output of the speed controller, As a result, it improves the response of load torque in the low speed range(1.9rpm).

  • A separation principle of the Takagj-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy-model-based observer-control is investigated. When the premise variables are able to be measured or directly computed from the outputs of the T-S fuzzy system and the fuzzy inference rules for the plant, control, and observer share the premise parts, the T-S fuzzy-model-based observer and the T-S fuzzy-model-based control can be separately designed such that the global stabilizability is guaranteed by the fuzzy observer-based output-feedback control. In this case, the global separation principle is well established. On the other hand, when the premise variables are unmeasurable or cannot be computed from the outputs, they should also be estimated. We examine the separation principle of this case. If the decay rates of the T-S fuzzy-model-based control and observer are sufficiently fast, the global separation is assured. Otherwise we show that the separation principle holds locally.
