Faunistic survey of ant was carried out twice in April and July 1994 from Is. Sohuksando located in westsouthern area in Korea. Thirty-seven species were identified ut of Five hundred and thirty seven colonies collected. Among them, Camponotus nawai Ito and Smthistruma incerta Brown are found to be the first record from Korea.

For the development of natural ornamental plants, an investigation was carried out about the vegetation of Soheuksan-do and Hong-do, islands located far in the southwestesn part of the Korean peninsular. The vegetation of Soheuksan-do was abundant. The dominant species were Machilus thunbergii, Buxus microphylla var. koreana, and Camellia japonica. Regarding the development of natural ornamental plants, 27 families and 54 species were reported in this investigation. Among these species there were 8 species including Calanthe discolor, Epipachs falcata, Dendrobium monniforme, Goodyera maximowiczii, and Lipari's krameri in Orchidaceae. The vegetation of Hong-do was similar to that of Soheuksan-do, but less abundant. Supplementary 10 species were reported in this investigation. Epipactis falcata and Dendrobium moniliforme were almost exterminated in these islands because of indiscriminating gathering. Therefore these species must be protected immediately.

전남은 한반도의 서남부를 차지하는 지역으로 동북으로는 높은 산지에 의해 서남으로는 바다에 의해 확연히 구분된 지역이다. 전남의 북부는 전북의 고창, 순창군에 연접해 있으며, 동부는 경남의 하동, 남해군 등과 인접해 있다. 전남의 경위도상 위치를 보면 극동에는 여수시 남면 연도리 작도, 극서에는 신안군 흑산면 소흑산도, 극남에는 완도군 소안면 장수리, 극북에는 장성군 북하면 신성리에 위치해 있다.(중략)

To determine the fish fauna and their characteristics of the Sohuksando Island located in the South - Western Sea of Korea, samples were collected from June 1993 to August 1995. 128 species belonging to 59 families and 97 genera were identified. Among them the order Perciformes were about 42.2% of total species, as 54 species belonging to 27 families and 44 genera, and order Scorpaeniformes, 19.5%, as 25 species belonging to 8 families and 15 genera. Besides of these groups, order Pleuronectiformes were about 12.5%, as 16 species belonging to 5 families and 13 genera, and order Tetraodontiformes, 6.3%, as 8 species belonging to 3 families and 4 genera. Cypselurus unicolor, Siganus canaliculutus and Tarphops elegans from Sohuksando Island are reported here as first record species from Korea. The unidentified species were Raja sp., Scorpaenopsis sp., Sebastes sp., Entomacrodus sp. and Psettodes sp.. The economic fishes of this area were Raja kenojei, Sebastes schlegeli, Sebastes thompsoni, Lateolabrax japonicus, Nibea albiflora, Argyrosomus argentatus, Pseudosciaena poliactis, Miichthys miiuy, Mugil cephalus, Paralichthys olivaceus, Cynoglossus joyneri and Cynoglossus semilaevis.

우리나라의 선망어업은 제주도 주변해역을 중심으로 소흑산도, 대마도 동북방해역과 동중국해에서 고등어, 전갱이, 정어리 등 부어류를 주 어획대상으로 연중 조업이 이루어지며 연근해 어업 중에 그 규모가 가장 큰 중요한 어업이다. 선망어업은 다른 어범에 비하여 그물어구가 대형이고 조업방법이 복잡하며 신속한 어구의 조작이 필요한데, 선망어구의 형상은 단순하나 망지의 분량은 대단히 많다. (중략)
