Consumers' Need for Uniqueness and Clothing Interest's Effects on Brand Consciousness, Brand Loyalty and Purchase Intention - To Select the Best Model of Constructs - (브랜드 인식, 브랜드 충성 및 구매의도에 대한 소비자의 독특성 욕구와 의복관심의 영향 - 최적모형 구축을 중심으로 -)

  • Consumers' need for uniqueness reflects individual differences in counterconformity and related to the attitude toward brands as well as purchase behavior. To understand the relationship between consumer's personal characteristics and purchase behavior, the study investigated the effect of consumers' need for uniqueness and clothing interest on the brand consciousness, loyalty and purchase intention. Survey was utilized to collect the data and subjects were 271 college students. Measures consisted of five main constructs: Consumer's need for uniqueness, clothing interest, brand consciousness, brand loyalty, and purchase intention. The measurement and structural models were evaluated using PRELIS 2 and LISREL 8.53. Consumer's need for uniqueness was confirmed to have three constructs: creative, unpopular, and avoidance. The researcher tested Model 1 and developed five other models-Models 2 through 6-based on the results from Model 1 evaluation. The additional Models 2 through 6 were nested in Model 1. To select a best model, the researcher compared the value of chi-square, RMSEA, GFI, AIC, and ECVI. Since Model 6 also illustrated conceptually or theoretically reasonable relationships among constructs as well, it was finally selected as a best model. In the Model 6, the creative dimension of consumer's need for uniqueness had a negative relationship with brand loyalty, while the avoidance dimension of consumer's need for uniqueness had positive relationship. The unpopular dimension of consumer's need for uniqueness and clothing interest had significant positive effects on the brand consciousness. The brand consciousness was significantly related to brand loyalty and brand loyalty to purchase intention.

  • The successful diffusion of innovation depends on an understanding of the consumer innovators, although they represent a small group of consumers. Researchers have studied the personalities of innovators to explain how these are associated with innovativeness. This paper examined the relationships of need for uniqueness, susceptibility to interpersonal influence, attention to social comparison information, and role-relaxed consumption to individual innovativeness. Data were collected from 319 students in Seoul. The results supported by large hypothesized relationships among these variables. Based on the results of the analysis, practical implications were discussed.

The Effect of Fashion Orientation and Consumer Needs for Uniqueness on Buying Intentions for Luxury Brands (패션성향과 소비자독특성욕구가 명품구매의도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the buying intentions for luxury fashion brands. The data used in this study were gathered through surveying university students living in Seoul metropolitan area. The variables included in this study were demographics, which are gender, age, academic major, area of residence, expenditure for apparel, pocket money, and family income, and fashion orientation and consumer needs for uniqueness were included as personal value variables. All demographic variables except academic major and area of residence were significantly related to the buying intentions. Among the fashion orientation factors, fashion intered was significantly related to the buying intentions while fashion leadership and importance of being well-dressed were not. Consumer needs for uniqueness was indirectly related to the buying intentions for luxury brands through fashion interest. The creative choice counterconformity was positively related to fashion interest, whereas the unpopular choice counterconformity was negatively related to it.

  • SP(sales promotion)전략을 지향하는 백화점은 강 한 개성으로 다양하게 변화해 가는 소비자의 욕구충 족을 위해 대 고객차원의 편의성 및 쾌적한 쇼핑환 경을 마련하며 아이디어는 항상 특별하고 새로워야 한다. SP 전략으로서의 VMD (visual merchandi sing)는 상품의 시각화계획 등 통일된 시각(visual identity) 연 출을 통해 고객의 그룹이나 개인의 취향에 맞는 타켓 마케팅 (target marketing) 으로 백 화점 은 고객 의 중심에서 그들의 삶을 윤태하게 하며 아름답고 즐거 운 소비문화를 주도해갈 수 있는 환경을 제공해야 할 것이다. 1999년 말 IMF 이후 최근 막강한 자금력과 경쟁 력을 가진 대형 외국 할인 업체의 부상과 계속되는 장기적인 경제위축으로 백화점의 마케팅활동은 기존 고객과 관련된 단기적 욕구만을 충족시키는 점에서 벗어날 수 없었다. 이렇게 심각한 경기불안과 유통환 경의 급변으로 인해 소비자의 구매력이 약화되고 매 출이 감소하는 등 백화점의 한계성과 업태간의 경쟁 이 심화되어 갈수록 진정한 서비스개념의 합리적 목 적을 띤 VMD가 SP전략의 실질적인 형태로써 존재 되어야 한다. VMD는 이러한 불경기에 대응하는 백화점의 생존 고용식 전략으로서 좀더 강하고 적극적인 글로벌 마인드 ( (global mind)를 갖고 보다 넓은 시장에 대한 장기적 안목을 필요로 한다. 특히 대 고객 감성의 글로벌화 로 광범위한 상품의 장르와 감각적인 투자로써 신 고객창출을 도모하는 한편 고객에 대한 세심한 배려 와 구체화된 전략을 통해 불황을 극복하는 등 국내 유통문화의 선진화를 가속시켜 나갈 수 있는 것이다.   • In an extended enterprise, there is a shift to shared services, cosourcing and outsourcing, and extending out to partners, suppliers, and customers to accomplish business objectives more effectively. Along with this critical need, executives should be aware of the need to focus on optimizing the value of their information technology and reducing the related risks. So IT governance is critical, and many companies including spin-off venture are providing IT governance solution, but very little is known about brand management and marketing strategy of IT governance solution provider. The purpose of this study is to investigate brand positioning of IT governance solution company focusing on spin-off venture. The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, brand management is needed in the spin-off venture. second, IT governance solution companies including spin-off venture must provide something more than functional value. That is, they actively seek to emotional or symbolic value for their customers.

  • Well-set tabletops influence customers' purchase behavior or post-purchase behavior by making the quality and image of a restaurant distinguished and customers impressed. This study aims to investigate the relations between the perception of environment among physical environments of restaurants and psychological responses to their tabletops and consumers' attitudes in order to suggest new guidelines for table-setting. As a result, the direct relations between the perception of environment in the tabletops of the restaurants and consumers' behavioral intention indicated that the perception factors of tabletops affected consumer behavior and that these perception factors affected the formation of general attitudes among consumers through emotional and cognitive responses. This result shows that tabletops can be an important key in managing restaurants with changing customer needs. Therefore, it is expected that positive customer attitude can be made by provoking their psychological responses with unique and attractive tabletop settings.

  • Modern men are much more interested in their appearance than ever before, as well as showing an increased need for uniqueness in order to construct their own sphere and pursue differentiation from others. Besides, changes in life style and the aesthetic sense are causing men to pursue various kinds of clothing benefits so that they want a suit with characteristics beyond the stereotyped design and style. They have started to be actively engaged in clothing purchases, forming a driving force for the growth of the male suit market. Hence, this study has significance in that it offers data conducive to consumers' custom suit purchase by reviewing data on the present condition of the custom suit market and bespoke suits. In addition, it aims to give a summary on the theoretical bases of preceding studies, including the need for uniqueness, pursuit of clothing benefit and concern for the appearance of male consumers, as well as examining the factors that influence on their bespoke suit purchase intentions. Accordingly, this work intends to construct a basic environment for consumers to approach the custom suit market easily and pave the way for male suit markets through offering marketing data and information that is helpful for custom suit-related markets.

  • The technological environment is rapidly affecting the way of shopping. When consumers go about retail activities, they not only use a single channel (e.g., traditional stores, mobile) but also combine different channels. This research focuses on the factors which influence the favorableness toward omni-channel shopping. Specifically, this paper investigates the effect of extraversion-introversion on the omni-channel shopping favorableness. Moreover, the effect of variety-seeking tendency is examined as a mediator. The results of an experiment using PROCESS program find that when participants are more extravert, they show greater favorableness toward omni-channel shopping and variety-seeking tendency mediates the effect of extraversion-introversion. Based on the findings, this research proposes managerial implications and several directions for further research.

  • The research was conducted with awareness of cultural uniqueness in each country and similarities and universality among countries. On that account, it raised questions about the idea that social well-being can be achieved only materialistic consumption and its cultural symbolism can lead to incongruity in social hierarchy and then dysfunctions in a counter way. On the other hand, the value of well-being can be achieved by many different ways and within one's limited budget as well as material consumption. This paper provides basic information about the development of essential wellbeing products and strategies for building market segmentation in the industry. The research also provides policy makers with the direction of welfare policy in our society to establish a foundation of creating conditions for true well being. This paper will be helpful in fulfilling well-being in our whole society.

  • As life gets richer along with social development, the interest in composure of life and in quality of life gets higher. According to this, a concept on bathroom, which had been simply physiological sanitary space before, is being gradually changed, thereby being reborn as space of charging vitality of life and of realizing own desire. As these consumers' new desire is emerged, it is being highlighted the behavior of being made in space now called 'bathroom', the requirements for this space, and the interest in what aims to be pursued. However, current Korean people have different bathroom behavior such as using outside bathtub or filling a washbasin with water unlike the center on stand-up shower in the West, thereby having inconvenience. Accordingly, when bathroom is designed that reflects Korean people's bathroom behavior, the satisfaction with using bathroom will be able to be enhanced. This study aims to increase the use satisfaction with bathroom space, to survey Korean people's situations of using bathroom, the inconvenience in using, and the general emotion, and to elicit requirements for bathroom users and basic design guidelines available for reflecting the health in planning bathroom space, the space of solving sanitary problem, and the modern people's physical features and lifestyle.
